Having just played the Duke Nukem Demo- I can confidently cancel my pre-order.

I don't mean it to sound harsh, but really, when this demo goes open people are going to be massively dissapointed. Duke dies faster than just about any FPS character, you're limited to just two weapons, everything in the demo is brown... and it uses Half Life 2 meele. Seriously, you whack at something that doesn't respond or flinch in any way.

The humour is there, which is what I was relying on, but the context its presented in just doesn't hold up. Duke 'GURUNT's every time you jump in exactly the same way, to the point of it getting on your nerves, and I find myself frightfully reminded of that cliche list of "first person shooter tropes". You know the ones, regenerating health, faux cover system, crouch, limited weapons, tiny health, ineffective meele...

I'm sure there are plenty of people who WANTED Duke to be a straight faced Call of Duty style shooter using familiar elements to everything post-Gears. A majority of people who genuinly cared though would be hoping for something more nostalgic, colourful and... well, fun.
As a perfect demonstration, I suggest watching Zero Punctuations 'Bulletstorm' review again.

Pretty much what I expected, unfortunately. A standard, generic shooter cash-in that people will buy anyway. I hoped they might be a little more creative (or at least bring back a more classic style of play from the earlier games), but no, I guess not.

Ah well, I have no pre-order to cancel anyway.

I'm still keeping my pre-order on Balls of Steel edition even though I have to admit that the demo left me quite unimpressed.

Three cheers for disposable income!

I played the demo last night and came to the same conclusion.

Call of Duke will be entirely cancelled for me to put the rest on Alice : Madness Returns, and I will be trolling the nearest GameStop on release date.

Really, did you expect anything else from a reboot like this?
Actually yes, the way the developers were handling set-backs in their very Dukeish 'self mockery' methods showed some hope. Like pointing out how there was yet ANOTHER delay and playing it for comedy, that seemed like a good move.

The game just doesn't feel like anyone wanted it to, and to make it worse, it doesn't feel like a current gen game either. Hit detection is terrible and the character models don't respond to inputs like damage- seems more like a PS2 or original Xbox engine.
I wanted to like it, I really did.

Frankly I preferred it when Forever was a gamers in-joke.

My enemies responded to being shot and hit... I genuinly thought it was quite good actually... The only niggle I picked up on was they used the same animation twice when he fell out of the mine cart. Other than that, was hoping to be able to pick up more than 2 guns, but hey ho. I thought it was jokes, like Bulletstorm.

People will still defend it, because "its just meant to be fun" is now used as a serious defence for something being crap.

That was my biggest problem with it though, I wanted it to just be fun. The issue with that is the game isn't making any attempt to seem whimsical or humourous in anything other than the dialogue. The aesthetic of the game is completely straight faced gung-ho military shooter.

You mean people will have an opinion, but you wont accept anything other than your own because you are a bit of a douche? Hmmmm....
Nice try.

14 years of development...I feel kinda stupid for overhyping the game in my mind. It was okay, but if the game is going to be what the demo is, even a tiny bit then I'll wait for it to drop in price. Disappointment isn't the word to describe what I feel. I shed a manly tear for DNF today T.0

Called it.
A game that has been in development this long and switched developers a year before release could not be good.

The game would still have been good if they kept the multiple weapons and healthpack-gets instead of Call of Duke: Forever Warfare.

Twelve more years.

I honestly don't care how bad or good it is. I'll be getting it no matter what. Not like I'm strapped for cash or anything so whatever.

Cool, then you can buy me a condo.
In the long run, I think everyone can agree it would be a better investment.

Not surprised really. I am normally first aboard the hype train but the adverts didn't do it for me. I am seriously disappointed about the weapon system, next you'll tell me you have regenerating health
