A lot of people tell me TRY PLAYING A REL GUITAR, ASSHOLE because I like playing guitar hero and I also like to think I'm pretty good at it. But anyway. I know I can't play a real guitar any better than I can use the mario paint composer to recreate the entirety of Beethoven's Fifth.

I heard a guy got bitten by a snake and died because he thought ringing a bell would turn it into a slither gripper.
i have a friend who pretty good and instrument like Bassoon Guitar and Oboe shes even performs in Italy in a concert but one day we got her to try Guitar hero 2 and she was pretty good she could beat song i couldn't do and got better than me within a week i hated that

I'm not sure about games but after 300 came out everyone became an expert on Sparta.
More like after 300 came out everybody suddenly started to believe that the area they were in WAS Sparta, despite the gajillion other people claiming the same.

I can't say I can think of anyone I know who acts like they know how something works in real life after playing it in a game, which is boring I know but I think I'm glad for that.
Best part of 300 was bursting the bubble of every MANLY MAN (i.e. 15 year old hambeast) by informing them that real Spartans did, in fact, more regularly have sex with the men they fought alongside than with their wives.

Having fired many real guns, shotguns, rifles, a few pistols, and bows (my school does archery), I can safely say that
A) he is full of bullshit if he can't fire a .22 and if he thinks its too heavy. Yea, some are heavy, but go for a 30-06
2) Wilson is right, though I've never been on a firing range for that long, I have sat in a tree stand for hours on end having to use restroom. And it was cold. Really, really cold.
III) Kick is a *****, even with a 20. gauge, you can get hurt if your don't hold the gun right. Especially with single shot, seeing as they're lighter. 30-06 don't have much kick becuase they're so damn heavy.
quatre) Airsoft and paintball are nothing like the real thing. OK, maybe a little. But not really.

I know a few people who are the exact opposite, who've been shooting in real life a couple of times and then think they can slaughter everyone in any FPS, but when they get their ass kicked they say "aww thats not like sniping in real life"
Hahaha!!! That's my dad!! When he has a shot on FPS games or on something like Golf on Wii Sports (he's a golfer) and he sucks, he is always like "well it's obviously NOTHING like that in real life!!"

But my niece plays Pokemon on the DS and thinks she knows everything about gaming and all things Manga/Japanese!!!

I read an article several months ago that talked about a gamer from Nebraska who helped administer first aid to a family that was in a car accident while they were waiting for the ambulance to arrive. He told reporters that he learned first aid from a video game.

Thought that was pretty cool.

Yeah, there was another article where a boy saved his little sister from a wild animal by 'feigning death' as he'd picked up from World of Warcraft, which I found quite amusing. Of course, its a 'good' tale about gaming therefore won't get any publicity while gun nuts shoot people in a mall that sells GTA, therefore its the game's fault, but that's another topic...

Anyways, I'm gonna spin it around and go in from the opposite side...

What annoys me is people who were filling all the Guitar Hero forums with variants on the topic of 'OMG u r all so lame and u suk u should get a real guitar if you want to play dont waste ur time on a plastic toy'

Personally, I don't believe I have any musical talent, but I really enjoy playing Guitar Hero and the like, and the reason I dont have a real guitar is the same reason I didn't sign up for the army instead of buying TF2, I know I wouldn't be any damn good and I sure as hell wouldnt be having any fun.

It's the difference between playing a game and learning a new skill, some of us just want to enjoy a damn game sometimes. Well done, you can play a real guitar, but we're really not threatening you, why not leave us alone? Or do you tell all gamers to go play real football/boxing/race driving/war too?

Ooh, can't forget the person who upon reading the Worst Case Scenario Handbook considers himself a survivalist. Behold the glory of the internet tough guys, and be thankful their kind has not stumbled upon us by now.

My friend plays the Naruto: Ultimate Ninga games a lot, read a few japanese books, and looks up samurai swords on the internet and thinks he's a ninja. It gets pretty annoying when he's all like "I just ninja'd you, I'm so badass". I can't wait till he goes to Japan and gets his ass kicked by a REAL ninja and wakes up the next day with a throwing star in his face and all of his possessions sold on the black japanese market.
He needs REAL ULTIMATE POWER!!1! [www.realultimatepower.net]

And anyway, before computer games go to that level, we had Combat and Survival Magazine.
Real ultimate power = excellent satirical prose.

All that stuff before is a solid effort, but falls well short of the mark, mostly because it is way to obvious in how "edgy" it is.

And the expert after playing a game / seeing a movie / channel surfing through a documentary is both an irritating reality and often times the first step in a budding interest that leads to actual knowledge.

I am always on the fence about this one, I hate know it alls who clearly know nothing, but I also hate quashing actual interest and a desire to learn.

My friends and I went to see the movie Wanted. I was(and still am) the only one among them who goes to a shooting range(mainly pistols, but some skeet out back), you do the math.

I have a buddy who got really creepy after playing The Darkness, and I just could not spend any time around him before feeling the urge to hurt him while explain to him that it was not real and there is no way there is some ancient evil haunting his family.

Yknow what, if books count, im a HUGE offender here, a few weeks ago i read "The Ultimate Zombie Survival Guide" by Max Brooks(BUY IT), and ever since ive been mentioning and relating things to the ultimate zombie survival guide left and right, i only just noticed it now...although, since zombies dont technically exist at all, does this really count?

Fine, as usual, I'll make the reference to one of my favourite games.
GUITAR HERO.
This is the reason haters bash the series so much. Some smug twat plays it, and thinks he can actually play a real guitar. Little does he realise that if he tried to play one, he wouldn't know how to play Smoke on the Water's riff...
... Not that I know how to play all of it, but I'm learning, honest.
I've never known someone like tis in real life, but it's bound to have happened in the past, possibly to a man called John S. Retard or something.
I pretty much just wrote a review on that, so I decided not to repeat myself.

i feel you friend. While i may not be a history major, studying history is definitely a major hobby of mine. I have yet to be able to bring myself to tell my 300-loving friends that there were more than just Spartans at Thermopylae.

So did they ask you how to curve bullets properly afterwards? ;)

I have a degree in environmental chemistry. Whenever I hear or read the phrase 'global warming is all bollocks anyway because X' where X equals volcanoes, solar flares, climate scientists on the take, farting cows or the expansion of the Antarctic ice sheet, my left eyelid starts going crazy.

well, games can teach you important stuff, for example, there was a kid in norway who survived an aggresive moose by pretending to be dead, which he had learned from his level 30 hunter in World of Warcraft who has the ability to Feign Death to be removed from combat.

Other then that, yea, the people who think they become experts on be it guns, history or whatever from games are annoying as hell

Have fun dude! Send me a post card, if you can afford one after they throw you out of the casio wearing a giant ass hat.

I wonder if anybody has actually flown a plane after playing MS Flight Sim X? :)

I do remember a guy who was talking about the setup of his car in the old Geoff Crammond F1 game and was spouting off about how he could setup a real F1 car when another friend said "Oh really? Let's ask Iain what it's like, he works as an engineer for Jaguar Racing (as it was then)".

I've never seen somebody backtrack so fast outside of Government in my life. :-D
