I've been shooting several times, and to be honest, I went in knowing I knew nothing about weaponry, even though I play CoD4. I fired that AK-47 like a true terrorist lol. Shooting dead trees is fun. For those who have never shot an AK, you shold try. It makes you feel so alive. When your ears pop from the loud bang that just came out of the rifle you are holding, the rush you get is amazing.
Yeah, i think everyone should try it.

But you know what is even more fun? Fireing a sniper rifle. Yeah, its hard, but the satisfaction of hitting a target 500m away is incredible
Not sure if a .306 and a .308 count as sniper rifles, but if they do, then I did that too. I gotta say though, its weird saying this, besides the Desert Eagle and AK-47, I actually enjoyed the .20 the best, mostly because I was really accurate with it.

AK-47's are exilerating...
noting like a glock 16 though so lightwieght and easy to handle...
22. revolvers are alright but the pull wieght on the trigger is a bit annoying when your used to glocks.
i once hit a rabbit with an 8 gauge shotgun...yeah just imagin a bloody paste flying everywhere.
and i fired one shot from a Smith and Wesson 500...idk if you know that gun fires 50 calibre rounds and doesnt fit into a normal magnum holster. i took one shot and went "no, this is too much. f*** this, im gunna crack my skull from this damn recoil"

Guy up my block beat Battle for Middle earth, thought he was an expert military stratagist

till I played and raped him on it
Battle for Middle Earth is a good game, but it contains 0 strategy compared to games like AOM, HOMM3-5 or the Total War series.

I have a mate who is obsessed with CoD4, but know thinks he is knowledgeable on a range of weapons and knows how to stance, reloading mechanism proper way to fire them. We went shooting the other day (his first time), and he tried firing a .22 (simple Bolt rifle), he could barely hold the thing up on his own, he didn't realize how heavy REAL weapons were Lol.
Anyone else think of when someone who has played a game thinks he is an expert...?
We hear things like this all the time in the military. Before the Army I never fired any weapon besides a bow. I have fired and qualified with the M16-A2, M4 carbine, M249, M240, AT4. For kicks me and my buddies also shot a modified ak47, 9mm, G3A4, and the m14.

But now all we do when we play a "war" game is nitpick the HELL out of it. Why does it take 8 shots to kill some one? When did bullets stop being deadly? Why is the Mp5 more accurate than my AcogM4? The Coriolis effect shouldn't spin my bullets like the movie "Wanted". Why does the silencer reduce range so damn much?

I'm still no weapon expert but FFS.

Oh yes, the dreaded lack of realism that hits you after you've fired a couple of weapons for real and seen the damage they do.

If you want a FPS, play Operation Flashpoint. It's not FPS as such, since the realism is surprisingly high. One hit usually kills you right off the bat or within a minute if you don't crawl to a medic immediately. Still love the game, even when it's a few years old.

On some football forums, people actually recommend clubs to buy certain players based on Football Manager.
My friend sent his CV to Manchester City for the managers position sighting LMA manager and championship manager as experience. He got a rejection letter (Which is framed), to this day I'm not sure if he did it just for a joke or not, because he would.

Most people forget that a keyboard/mouse or controller have a much different composition than real weapons. A controller is under half a pound and shaped to fit your hand. An M4A1, meanwhile, is only about 4 and a half kilos when loaded (if I recall correctly); however, trying holding that upright, steady, and best of all, while you're running for cover.

I use this scenario on anyone who ever says they could practically shoot a real gun because they've played games extensively. No, you cannot. It took me a good day to learn how to aim with an old hunting rifle my dad had, and this was only two years ago.

Just to make the OP feel better about his shooting credentials, a .303 is a pretty powerful round, roughly equivalent to 7.62x51mm NATO (which has about 6 feet of flesh penetration on average), a lot more so than 5.56mm thats used in most standard assault rifles or 7.62x39mmR.
This is the kind of shit we are talking about >.>
Who, me or scum?
Although your ability to use wikipedia is appreciated, I meant you.

I'll probably never really know the true force needed to fire/use a weapon and I hope I never have to learn that, either.

I love it when I bring a friend to an airsoft fight and I get to punk him when he tries to hip-fire. It's even funnier when he jumps around, like he does online.

I knew one guy who thought he could shoot a bow because it was his favourite weapon in Turok. I gave him my bow and my carbon arrows and said: "Go ahead. Shoot something 10 meters away from you."
He now owes me a carbon arrow. His shot went 3 meters wide and hit a tree and snapped the arrow.

Also, people who think they can play guitar because they're good at Guitar Hero. Being good at that game only shows a certain positive disposition towards the guitar, but you have to start from zero.

Mirror's Edge... ugh. Don't even get me started on the amount of idiots who tried wallrunning and broke their arms because they saw me doing it, and they went "Oh, I know that move! I do it on ME!"

On the flipside, I know a friend who watched a match of Fight Night: Round 3 and could replicate all the punches very well.

Yes, you did. Now go stand in the corner.
Ohh. I had a friend who played assasin's creed and thought he could free-run. Buildings are a lot taller in real life apparently.

I'm not sure about games but after 300 came out everyone became an expert on Sparta.
God after that movie came out I had to listen to friends and others who "thought" they knew anything about history say things that made my soul die a little bit.

One comment that made me cry a tad on the inside was and I shall quote, "Yeah it was a good movie but it wasn't historically accurate.". I followed that statement by trying to explain that the movie 300 was based on a graphic novel by a man named Frank Miller who only loosely based the story on historical events. After stating that I was again treated to this persons thoughts; "Yeah I know that but I really doubt there were guys like the one with blades for hands or that one that the Immortals brought into battle." to which all I could do was /facepalm.

Sorry for the rant but that comment brought back some memories.
You do not want 300 to be historically accurate.
yeah, 300 as historical accurate would be horsecrap
It would be brokeback mountain meets a child called it.
AHAHAH, It would be like the Ambiguously Gay (300) Duo!. They'd all be fighting together rubbing oil and lotion on each other and stuff, oh man. It's such a hilarious, yet disturbing thought.

Well, i play RTS game a lot, and i do think i am a minor expert at tactics, but in my defense, i also play blitzkreig, chess, and shogi, and study real world tactics
