Heal as you walk. I'm pretty sure that massive open wound will clear up as you move =D

I hate healing in PC games Operation Flashpoints the only one that does it right. You get shot in the leg you cant stand up. Whats the problem there :/
And then you talk to a medic and everything is fine again. OFP's (and ArmA's, don't know about ArmA2's yet) magical heal is as fucked up as any other system out there.

But at least ArmA had the ACE mod and as long as you didn't use the magical heal, it was close to perfect.

I'm amazed no one has mentioned this one yet. Killer 7!!!
If a teamate dies you cut off their head, place it in a paper bag, take it to a tv, put it inside the tv, and turn the knob until they magically come back from the dead......yeah, it really works like that.

Hiding behind a rock, like in Call of Duty 4. That was pretty odd.
this is even more fun cos of how much people go on about the game's realism...
Maybe you'd prefer a game where you step outside, get picked off by an enemy sniper and, if you're lucky, spend the next three years learning to write your own name in a hospital somewhere.
lol thats so funny i almost rofl'd

After having an intense firefight, got ran over by a car, and falling off of a high building, then walking into a fastfood place and eatting a burger makes everything feel better

Fallout 3. How in the hell does drinking out of an irradiated 200 year old toilet net you health points?
What makes even less sense is being set on fire, beaten, and shot and then sleeping for 2 hours and being perfectly fine.

IF your lucky? dude, that is a fate worse than death. But this thread fails anyway, because its about GAMES, and games are supposed to not be so real. But w/e, i guess then weirdest way to heal is in those games were drinking a gallon of water heals stabs, gunshot wounds and broken bones.

Half Life 2: You'd gain health by stepping on health kits and armor by stomping on batteries. Not to mention how you'd gain health or armor by staring at wall mounted dispensers.

On topic: It has to be that cover and walls give you health when you don't die or Alone in the dark I only played a demo but what the...? Spraying yourself heals all wounds.

Actually that'll make a good deodorant advert

Any game where food heals you. And inn Saints Row 2's case, smoking a blunt heals you.

But basicly any game that has a flamethrower has a weird healing mechanic. In Gears, if you run away from the fire for awhile, you're fully healed from the burns. And if you get burnt for like 5 minutes straight, you're brought to your knees (not burnt to death) until a teamate can pick you up with the power of his voice.

Resi 5 - spraying yourself with deodorant heals all wounds.

Also any game that thinks food=health. At least in MGS3 eating something would replenish stamina, not health.
Actually, now I think about it MGS3's healing system worked pretty well. Healing Radio notwithstanding.

For how long? It'd be pretty annoying not being able to stand up for the rest of the game.
Just for the rest of the mission. They operate on the assumption that you get some decent medical attention between missions.

Personally, I prefer the OFP/ArmA standard of healing. While they do have the, "Heal at medics and field hospitals," feature, generally once you are injured, you will stay that way for the duration of the mission.

So is there any game that has a healing mechanic that DOES sound logical?
ArmA 2 comes close. If you get hit, the bullet usually knocks you down, and you are out of action until a corpman can get to you (and a 7.62x39mm bullet will knock you down). The corpman can apply first-aid and make it so you can at least stand up and fight, but your character will still wince and complain of pain for the rest of the mission. Your accuracy will also suffer for the rest of this mission if you were hit in an arm, and you will be somewhat slower if you were it in a leg. I also like the fact that you can bleed out if you do not get medical attention fast enough.

It is not 100% realistic, but it is at least 95% more plausible than most other healing mechanics.

The TF2 medic's ability to heal himself through pure schadenfreude by shooting his enemies with hypodermic syringes is pretty odd.
Or sniff his Kritzcraig... Oh man that is the best taunt ever, what a druggie!

Or just by standing around sort of like COD4 but A LOT slower. I suppose that does make some sense because he is a medic after all he can heal himself.

Good point. I think we can just say Fallout 3 in general. It's a very unintuitive health system. Even with the eating stuff giving you health points too, because it also gives you radiation. So all at once you're getting healthier and sicker at the same damn time. What the hell? Actually now that I'm getting into it, there's a lot about Fallout 3 I don't get. Why when you beat a Brahmin to death with a sledgehammer every limb and both heads fly off? It's absolutely ridiculous.

I think that I am going to go with Doom 1 & 2... walking over variously sized cardboard boxes and randomly colored balls heals you.
But lets not forget Wolfenstien 3D where if you get really low on health you can drink the random pools of blood on the floor, the rest of the time you just eat whatever thing looks like food that was in the floor and most likely half eaten by the attack dogs.

why the hell would that make you feel better?
Could it have something to do with taking all that lovely, lovely lead out of your veins?
