In Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, you press a button that makes Stranger shake himself like a wet dog, expelling all the darts stuck in his body. How simply getting rid of the darts heals his wounds is a bit of a mystery.

Another thing that always seemed strange to me is how in HL2, Gordon can still walk around after a "major fracture". Either the HEV suit can instantly heal broken limbs, or the leggings act like a splint in the event of a fracture, allowing the user to walk without too much discomfort. Exactly how medpacks and health stations heal things like radiation poisoning is also beyond me. It must be that magic green juice.

Fable 2: Eating pies, peanuts and apples; drinking water, wine and ale.
Riddick: Couple of spikes to the neck.
Actually the Riddick one was nanomachines so that makes more sense than you thought it did.
Ummmm... Chocolate bars in Conker. "I got a bullet up my arse, I'll eat a Hersheys".

We've all seen it, games where you in some weird way regenerate health, but which is the weirdest of the weirdest? I thought the one in Battlefield: Bad Company was pretty interesting. You get your full health back by injecting some sort of syringe or something right into your heart.
I got a buddy in the Army who kind of explained that one to me. The thing he injects into himself does exist. It's basically morphine-like chemicals that you inject into yourself that numbs the pain and makes you feel better.
Yes, cause anybody can survive a bullet through the brain, as long as they're not feeling it. "Oh look, he cut off my legs, but it's okay, I can still walk by using the sheer power of mind." ;P Just kidding, but games will always have lingering feeling of unrealism to it. Like they're the Black Knight from the Holy Grail.
Hey I was just explaining the injector thing :p Didn't say the game's healing mechanics was as real as daylight.
I didn't say you didn't explain, I was just joking around. ;P
Yeah really, I mean it's just a flesh wound.

How medical kits heal you instantly without actually having to apply them. Doesn't seem to apply in Left 4 Dead though. And at least you actually have to wait to heal in Half Life, though the little packs and batteries still count.

Oblivion, with the Dagger of Friendship. It healed anyone it touched. I pickpocketed this guy, and switched his sword for the dagger (Yes, you can pickpocket swords). He caught me as I tried to sneak away, and attacked me. Suffice it to say, there was an enemy fail XD

Penumbra Overture. I don't think taking 5 bottles of painkiller will do anything good for those bite wounds...

I hate the way every fps seems to be doing the hide-to-heal thing at the moment.
It's better than the medpacks were. Remember how annoying that was?

The most fucked up one is in inFamous. To get infinite xp (as evil) you shoot a policeman, heal him, shoot him again, heal him again (you get it, don't you?).
Lol, I LOVED the accidental racism in that game. Good people have a blue aura. Bad people have a red aura. But only truly, truly evil people have black powers.

Most probably Gears of War, where you can revive people by actually standing on them. Also, the retarded ways of regenerating health like 'using' a med kit or 'hiding' behind cover or something piss me off.

Gears of War.
Dom: "Urgh, I'm nearly dead..."
Marcus: "No you're not!"
Dom: "Oh, hey! I'm not."
Oh yeah, that's because death is just a state of mind.
To quote stewie from family guy: "The only reason we die.... is because we accept it as an inevitability."
So Dom and Marcus are able to save each other by reminding one another that death is a myth.
Hell, Carmine could have survived that measly sniper bullet to the head if he just believed...

A healing mechanic I never understood? The Defibrillator in Battlefield 2142. If the real treatment for a clip full of bullets to the face is a quick zap from the defibrillator, then DICE might just have made the greatest medical discovery of all time.
"leave the bullets in, ignore any missing limbs, don't bother closing any gaping wounds, just zap the guy with this here defibrillator and he'll be good as new! all of his injuries will magically heal, and if he needs any more health just hold this box in his general area"
"Hooray for team DICE! Let's give them a trophy!"

Gears of War and Call of Duty. You get better from anything that doesn't immediately kill you, even explosions that should have blown off your legs.

Military grade heroin really keeps soldiers going. Same in far cry 2 but their needles are dirty and you put it in your wrist. Although in Bad Company you like your killing yourself with a katana. Best shooter ever. Can't wait for the second.

Good point. I think we can just say Fallout 3 in general. It's a very unintuitive health system. Even with the eating stuff giving you health points too, because it also gives you radiation. So all at once you're getting healthier and sicker at the same damn time. What the hell? Actually now that I'm getting into it, there's a lot about Fallout 3 I don't get. Why when you beat a Brahmin to death with a sledgehammer every limb and both heads fly off? It's absolutely ridiculous.
Well I guess it was to make up for the fact that if they didn't make it insanely simple to get back health, the difficulty would be off the charts. Also, the limbs of things come off because it's cool. There's no real reason for it, it just looks cool.

Collecting 100 gold coins somehow allows you to buy an extension on your lifespan?
"Hey God man, here's another 100 smackers! So you'll tell Death to leave me alone for another while right?"

Oh that Mario...
