Soda? Or smoke a cigarette (they have some caffeine I believe). Neither one is good for you but I think they have less caffeine than coffee. You could even try drinking Caffeine-free drinks, like Sprite.
Smoking cigarettes instead of drinking coffee to stay awake is like jumping off of a skyscraper to avoid a fistfight.
Anyway, you have got to get over your addiction first. Caffeine addiction is a real thing, but the symptoms go away after only a couple of days without the stuff. It's going to suck, but you'll be MUCH happier without it. After you've finished clensing yourself, try exercising in the morning. I used to be very tired at school, but after I started biking there (about 2 miles) I could stay awake much better. You might also want to try drinking juice, especially apple, in the morning instead of coffee; as that is a pretty good way to stay up.

How bout you just sleep? pull some willpower out ya' sack and kick it.

Plus this is a first, I've never heard of someone being addicted to caffeine.

Stop being a ******. If you want to stop then quit, if not carry on. This doesn't warrant discussion. Make up your mind.

Upgrade thyself to the New York Patrick Diet of Rockstar, Popcorn, and Bagels.

Might solve your energy problem, might rewrite the functions of some of your organs... could possibly kill you... or turn you into a mutant... which is FUN!

Are you kidding? It's the most common addiction . It's also meant to be pretty strong. According to an alcoholic friend of a friend it was harder to give up than both smoking and alcohol.

Drink something like Coke, then eventually move down to the caffeine free Coke if you really want to kick-it.
I love your avatar. :) I'm about half way throught the anime (I think).

OT: Yeah, I'd recommend coke. I only have coffee on thursdays and saturdays during the breaks in my job. It makes me tired, and we have a coffee machine that makes amazing cappuccinos.

I only have caffeine when I'm tired, to get me back to a normal state.

Don't worry I'm sure a friend could talk you through this over a nice cup of coffee. Seriously though; as energy giving drinks go, nothing beats coffee. Tea is merely a close second. It has no other addictive properties than deliciousness, so any addiction is just your lack of self control. Just throw out the pills and take it black like a a man.

That's ignorant. Read this: James, JE; Stirling, KP (1983). "Caffeine: A summary of some of the known and suspected deleterious effects of habitual use". British Journal of Addiction 78 (3)

Go cold turkey, it's probably less dangerous with caffeine than other substances.
I agree. Withdrawal will probably last about 9 days max, but it's worth it (I haven't had a caffeinated beverage or popped a No-Doz in four months.)

You could quit the coffee and pills cold-turkey, and you probably should, and then switch to something with less caffeine. Something that still has enough caffeine to give you the boost you want, but not something as caffeine-packed as the pills and coffee. Or, you could switch to un-caffeinated energy shots, like that five-hour energy thing.

Coffee addiction... Hmmm... simple... every addiction needs a pacifier... so when you change the substance addiction changes... IMO change it something weird like smelling seats on a bus that was recently sat on.. that way your sure to get over it really quickly... Plus you may have to wait for commuter hours so you will get the hang of it ^^

Try and find some time that you can afford to have a splitting headache for a week. Like when there are no big projects due, or important tasks to work on. Then quit cold turkey and try your best to sleep it off. When you are sick with something else is an ideal time to do this. You will have a legitimate reason to not go to work. Chances are you will have a head ache and be sleeping a lot already.

Go cold turkey. I did it, I just drink powerade zero whenever I'm thirsty. healthier and less expensive. Of course you're gonna get withdrawals, and you'll be a lot more tired until your body gets used to it being without caffeine.

Oh and before you say that you drink way too much to just drop it, I used to drink 2 BFC's worth of monster a day. Thats twice the daily limit. After a couple months you'll be back to your old sleep habits if you're up till 4am every day, and the headaches go away after a week. Mentality of wanting a good soda is gonna be around for a long time though. I'm just over it after being 2.5 months in.

This thread confuses me!
Why would anyone want to quit the good stuff?
Or take caffeine pills for that matter!
Aw, my friend, you are breaking my heart!

Gonna go make a pot of joe, and mourn for a fallen brother. No cream or sugar this time. Only tears.
Pour a venti out for our homie?

OT: Seriously, never quit caffeine cold-turkey. If you actually want to quit it, go slowly. This is speaking from experience.

I'm actually scaling back my caffeine consumption (I used to drink about 12 shots of espresso a day, now I'm down to six or seven). It's tough, but it'll be worth it in the end.

You do know that after a week the caffeine is almost completely absent from your body? After that it's all in your head. Plus I find that if I drink assloads of caffeine and quit cold turkey for a while (had to, stuff is too damned expensive), I don't get the headaches for longer than 3 days. After that it's just a battle going on in your head, which is easy to win if you just drink something else that's got a good taste but no caffeine when you're thirsty or have the urge.

Every 6 months or so I give up caffiene for about a month. I dont really have an addiction (well, the first time I did it I sure as hell did...) but I feel it's good for me.

My advice - take a friday or a monday off work and go cold turkey over the weekend. You're gonna be tired, cranky and get a hell of a headache... but after the first couple of days you'll be fine. Caffiene is quite easy to give up once you're past the few few days. Try and get out in the sun of a morning while you do this, it makes a difference.

With willpower, cold turkey. Suck it up and be a man and just quit.
Or if you lack willpower, gradual. Decrease to low-caffeine, then lower the amount of low-caffeine you consume until you eventually consume no caffeine.
