Anyone care to elaborate on the image the OP is talking about?
Oberyn lying dead on the ground with his head crushed by The Mountain (Spoiler warning). Kinda disturbing, especially since Oberyn's the most likable character since season 1. At least for me he was.
Ooooooooooooh that episode 8! The was the OP was worded I thought he meant episode 8 from season 1.

Um....yeah, overly dramatic much OP?

Yotsuba!& (manga) is the best thing I can recommend to you to wash down all that blood and grit. It's nothing but a really fun time with a very inquisitive 5-year-old.

If you've lost your faith in humanity because of something that happened in Game of Thrones, then the best and simplest way to restore it would be to go outside, look around, talk to people and interact with humanity until it dawns on you that Game of Thrones isn't real life, and real humanity doesn't abide by what happens in Game of Thrones.

There you go, instant faith in humanity restoration, and it probably won't take more effort than walking to the end of your street.

However, in the future if you want to avoid other existential crises, then I suggest you don't use works of violent fantasy fiction as the measuring stick for humanity... in fact, it'll probably be best not to let any works of fiction dictate you mood and your faith in humanity, positive or negative (as it could be just as disastrous the other way if you watch some happy feel-good cartoon and then go skipping through a crack slum at night singing 'Zippity Doo Dah').

For a "lazy hack writer," he seems to have elicited quite the emotional response from you. He must be doing something right. :p
Oh come on, not this smug old silliness. It's silly and smug...
If he's not going to explain his opinions then a smug response is about the only thing his comments about Martin's writing and the show deserve.

Interesting. I'm not the only one that was deeply disturbed by that scene, that sort of gives me hope in humanity.

OT: I was going to say Lord of the Rings (the books), until I remembered the entire world of Tolkien is basically grim and dark.

The Tales-games are very colourful and at least somewhat cheery, even if the undying hope and blind will of the characters to carry on through whatever problem they might have can be a bit annoying at times. Then you have viva piñata, probably THE most colourful and happy-go-lucky game of all time (and according to those who know it's not a bad game. It's made by Rare, and they're famous for making pretty decent games).

Tengen Toppa Gurrenn Laggann (not sure I spelled that right), an anime(/manga) worth watching(/reading). If it doesn't make you laugh over how hard these people are trying to save the world, then you have become a heartless human being. It can be a bit dark at times, but not so much that it can't be solved by the main characters will to drill stuff with their over-sized machines. (And watching the one prominent girl basically dropkick the young kid protagonist into puberty is hilarious).
Most people were disturbed by that scene, doesn't mean people shouldn't continue watching it. That's an utterly stupid reason.
What's the point of watching it, if not for entertainment? Certainly not for it's "depth" or themes. If OP finds the rather silly levels of violence disturbing, then who are you to judge? Not everyone is in love with "darkness! No parents!" as you.

The implication being that Game of Thrones is somehow darker and more violent than real life
Umm, yes? Too the point where it's almost self parody, actually. Read game of thrones. Enjoy it. But don't think for a moment that its a good representation of reality. It's not even a good representation of the Middle Ages.

So, you lost your "faith in humanity" over a damn Game of Thrones episode, huh?

.........

Yeah, I feel like I don't really have to say anything else. I think the absurdity of the OP's statement speaks for itself, I just have to repeat it.

So I Googled that "horrible ending scene" and found a screenshot.

...that's it? That disturbed you so much that it acted as a tipping point? THAT is what has "haunted you for days"?

Sheeeeeeeeeesh. Ever played a Silent Hill game?

OT: How about a Silent Hill game? They're pretty fun.

Ever watch Vice? Humanity can be pretty fucked up when it wants to be. Usually though it has something to do with a third world country that is regularly disrupted by suicide bombs, dismemberment, and cannibalism. Besides, Oberyn getting his head crushed is hardly the worst thing that has happened on that show. And yes, go and play a Silent Hill game. In Silent Hill 4, there's this room, with a giant disembodied head, and the eyes follow you. Those eyes will haunt your nightmares for days.

Looking at your avatar OP, there's probably a lot of feel-good animes out there you could watch to make you feel better. Most of the one's I personally watch tend to be quite dark and gloomy though so I can't really think of any good recommendations. Welcome to the NHK though does have a wonderfully heart warming ending to it though so you may want to check that out.

I don't really know if GoT should make you lose faith in humanity given that it is a work of fiction based only loosely on real historical events. I suspect more that GoT is too dark and gritty for your tastes, which is perfectly fine and understandable.

You could always go outside and look at some birds and trees and hedges and things.

They're pretty agreeable.

First of all, I don't like being quoted for stuff I did not write.
I edited my post, I just wasn't paying attention when I was shortening the quote, chill the beans.

Feel free to share how.

There's nothing particularly 'dark' in ASoIaF that didn't happen medieval states during times of war. Hell there's nothing particularly 'dark' in ASoIaF that doesn't happen in modern states during times of war.
A man whose tortured into insanity, then is treated like a dog. Literally, with a collar. Or a guy whose beheaded, and has a wolf head sewn on. I do feel like Martin tries to hard, and in the end I sort of roll my eyes at how dark and gritty he thinks everything is.
