Just gotta say it; Eragon.
Hear ye all!

I mean...seriously. That guy's a sociopath (see: that scene with the soldier in the prison). Let's tally the offenses: Murder, theft, sacrilege, murder, religious persecution, torture, murder, genocide, brutality, murder, and to be slightly more puritanical, drunkeness, lust, sloth, wrath, envy, gluttony, murder, greed, pride, murder, witchcraft, and manhandling that dragon like that. Oh, there was also some murder.

At the very least, Paolini should've had the decency to follow Alan Moore's example and be open about his main character's sociopathy.

So, um...this.

I know that this has already been mentioned, but Alucard from Hellsing fits this perfectly. He is fighting for the preservation of the human race from monsters, very noble, but often kills his enemies and the occasional bunch of hapless humans in an extremely brutal fashion which, while beyond awesome, is not very noble.

You can make that guy from inFAMOUS evil.
You mean Cole MacGrath? Good point. He does pursue a noble cause, but you can make him walk the path of evil to accomplish it.

I can't really call someone who does good but is a bit extreme about it evil. Their heart is in the right place, it's just that their methods are a bit quirky. I.e. Ozymandius. Is he an evil man? No, not at all. It's just that how we wants to go about getting things done is a little outta whack.
The real trick is to find someone who really is evil but is doing good for all the wrong reasons. Someone who's motives run completely opposite of what the good guys would want, and yet is doing things the good guys would approve of.

And so, with that criteria in mind, I present to you Ian Dresari from Mechwarrior 4 Vengeance.
You spend the whole game 'liberating' your planet (the death of his sister is the canon ending), but in Mechwarrior 4: Black Knight you actually have to kill Ian Dresari because he turned out to be a god damned power hungry despot.

Aquaman. He cruelly forces fish to do his bidding, in a fashion similar to a fascist dictator.
Don't worry, half the time the fish don't listen and attack Aquaman for attempting to control them.

Which makes Aquaman even more useless
and sometimes he floats around an underwater castle with a golden mullit, attacking retarted A.I. having dolphins ram the stupid enemys, and getting thanked for saving retarted mermaids and mermans, who thank him by waving at him from two feet away then bouncing off an invisable spring bored, doing a back flip and disappering in the water....

Sorry Aquaman the video game flashbacks *shivers* heh...I remember when xplay was actually a really good show....*sigh*

/irrelevant refrances

OT: Invincable and Omni-man from the Invincable comics, They destroyed that entire gran alien army, how'd they know they didn't just come to say hi? Punch first, ask questions later, GREAT TACTIC!

Mario he saves the princess by stomping on other creatures even frying one of them in lava while being stoned
Yes he is a bit evil, but you can't blame him, like when you see a mentally handicaped person petting a cat to hard, you know it's hurting the cat, but they're just trying to do good.

I mean mario has always been a bit of a mongoloid, he lives four doors down from a giant fire breathing turtle, who, on a weekly baises, captures a princes, and he's never thought for a second "hey...we should move farther away" or anything of the sort. He knows he'll be fighting evil mushrooms and evil man-eating plants and the only weapon of any sort he ever brings is his stompin boots, and maybe a hallucenigetic mushroom, or a phycidellic flower.

He can usualy only run in two directions, left or right, and he repeatedly saves a beautiful princes, who, everytime he saves, just says "thanks dude, that was neat" and MAYBE gives him a kiss on the cheek. Would you save the ***** an eight time?

I wouldn't.

Not to mention luigi's earnest moral code to save a girl he doesn't even know, and to help his menatlly slow brother, when he should be off fixing a toilet or installing a bath tub, the dumbass.

In the words of our great prophet ben yahtzee croshaw, "[mario and luigi] arn't bad people, they're just IDIOTS!"

Alright, allow me to explain in-depth:

Murder: Case in point: Farthen Dur and Surda.

Theft: See: Teirm

Sacrilege: See: Dras-Leona

Murder: The assassins in Farthen-dur

Religious persecution: My memory of Brisingr is a bit hazy, but didn't he beat the s**t out of some monks for their affiliation with the Ra'zac?

Torture: That messy affair with the prison guard in Gil'ead (you remember, that bit with the dirt).

Murder: Durza (although this might count as excorsim instead)

Genocide: Well, given the way he's plowed through countless imperials, he's not far off...oh, and let's not forget his intention to slay the last two dragons that aren't his.

Brutality: Remember how he crushed that one guy's heart during the prison break? Yeah.

Murder: Feinster

Drunkeness: Hmm...I can't remember exactly where, but he got high as a kite during the first book (I'm pretty sure it was in Dras-Leona...the emerald something or the other).

Lust: Arya. 'Nuff said.

Sloth: Actually, you might have me beat here.

Wrath: This is a fancy way of saying 'murder'.

Envy: Erm...Roran?

Gluttony: Any one of numerous feasts The opening to Eldest.

Murder: Urgal after Urgal after Urgal...

Greed: Okay, I admit I just threw this one in so I could complete the set.

Pride: It's all there in the book-- Saphira' dominant characteristics carry over to him, and I dare you to give me a word that fits her better than that. More explicitly, it's openly acknowledged when he meets Oromis (or however it's spelled).

Witchcraft: Magic. Like, any of it. Although to be fair, this isn't a bad thing.

Manhandling that dragon like that: That's...well, that's pretty much the whole of all three books, no?

Murder: The Ra'zac

In short, don't you evah try to school me on this particular series. I know my way around it, and I'm all too well aware of how awful and decayed that film was.

More on topic, Nathan Drake was set up to be the good guy, but he wasn't much better than the mercenaries, killing thousands of men for treasure. He could have given up the chase at any point.
Total agreement on that one.

And Isaac Clarke could be totally evil (in theory) if he enjoys stomping human corpses just a liiiiittle too much. Like grinding them into fracking dust instead of focusing on just the "need-to-sever" parts. Mmm, ground beef...

Lara Croft, as said by Yahtzee:

"Most of the actual villains in the games are just trying to get to the treasure before she can, most of which are significantly poorer than her."

In the movie, yes, I'll give you that, but read the book, in there, he's an entirely different character.
No, not really, I've read the books (to a degree. Read the first one, got halfway through the second, skimmed the third. But I have friends who've given me the story I've missed, as well as reading the wikis and various sporkings). He's still far from convincing me he's the good guy, or anyone in the resistance is.
Indeed, I actually like the books (*gasp*), but Eragon really isn't a likable character in the first two books, then in the third he's less annoying, but much more of a sociopath.
I enjoyed the books so far, and how exactly is he unlikeable in the first two?

Quote honestly, because he acts like a teenager. He's pigheaded, he's rude, and he's incredibly dumb at times.

Then all of a sudden this little man in all red starts taking down his flags and raising his red ones with stars in them, and he's hell bent on killing the king and taking over the country. flippin communist....
