We've all been there.We've all run out of ammo in the middle of a big battle and end up dieing.personally i usually run out of ammo in Ratchet&Clank when i was younger and recklessly wasted ammo Or in halo when your using the battle rifle and none of your allies are nice enough to die and give you their ammo.And of course it's always before an unexpected boss fight.

I seem to be a scavenger type, because I always have a weapon with plenty of bullets, even if the others are almost out.

Borderlands. I favour machine pistols, and rarely have enough money for the ammo extensions.
I'm usually alright though, I can switch to my sniper or revolver.

This happens to me all the time in Just Cause 2 when I'm using the SMGs.

Fortunately enemy helicopters are never too far away and are piss easy to hijack.

I can testify to this.

It happened to me quite a lot in Bioshock, but Borderlands is the best possible example I can think of.

The reason I stopped playing Deus Ex all those years ago was because I ran out of Sniper ammo and didn't feel like using any other gun.

Maybe it's just the games I play, but only rarely do I run out of ammo for every weapon. Sure, I'll use some guns to the point of extinction, but I'll always have at least one backup gun on hand to finish the job.

But it still is pretty frustrating when it happens, even when it's just that you ran out out of bullets in a magazine. Oh well.

Have to agree with the Just Cause 2 one. And the worst part is I really couldn't bothered to call in that damn delivery guy just to get some more. So I'll just grapple someone to a car and drive around for a while.

I was playing fallout 3 yesterday and ran into one of the behemoths after I was supposed to go there. Accidental skipping of part of the story line missions. Because I was late there was no mini-nuke launcher waiting for me on a corpse. I only had about 30 shots with my hunting rifle and about 60 with my assault rifle, then I saw the laser pistol I had picked up right before finding the enemy. I had never touched any energy weapon on this character so I had over 1200 shots for it. Basically ammo rarely is an issue for me. I always make sure I have something as a backup.

We've almost completely run out of ammo when playing Gears of War in co-op with a friend. All we had was some handgun bullets. And we were up against a squad of baddies with an MG.

But we didn't die, no. He hid behind a random chest-high wall and drew their attention with pistol fire while I ran from cover to cover until I managed to flank them and unleash the chainsaw.

Good times, man.

EDIT: But in general, I'm an explorer/hoarder, so I don't usually run into this problem. When playing BG, I routinely have the entire inventory for 3 characters stuffed with arrows.

This- although the only time that I actually ran out of ammo altogether was the last boss (on playthrough 1!), when I emptied all 1000 or so of my combat rifle bullets into it's ugly face. Damn S&S with their stupidly distended magazines...

What's even worse, is that you run out of ammo, but manage to kill the / an enemy and you finally get some more. Then, just as you're reloading, another guy pops out and kills you.

It makes sense, in a post apocalyptic world money is going to be no use, but things like Military grade ammunition would be really useful.

COD is kinda bad, especially before I got bandolier. I would get on a good 5 kill streak and then run out of ammo. Then I would run around frantically with my pistol out hoping not to run into anyone while searching for guns on the ground.

Although it feels really good when I run out of ammo with like 3 different guns while racking up a huge kill streak with dead people's guns.
