For the love of god Capcom, please don't listen to your fans.
I...I don't even...
wat?
(If this was immense sarcasm, I apologise)
No, it's not sarcasm. A game dev (or an artist, or a musician) should only work to one muse, themselves. Fans never really know what they want anyway. They're scared of change, this is why people freaked out when they saw the slightly more colorful screenshots of Diablo 3. What did Blizzard tell them? Tough. This is how the game's going to look, and I doubt it's going to hurt their sales. This is why people derided Zelda: Wind Waker. Cut to a couple of years later and people are lamenting the fact that nintendo turned it's back on Celda.
If the fans are really that genuinely bothered by the new direction of the series (which is amounting to a FUCKING HAIR STYLE), they can not buy the game, but somehow I doubt this shallow criticism will get very far once the fans realize that yes, this is still going to be more or less the same DMC they know and love (even if Dante now reminds them of the highschool guy in the band that stole their girlfriend).
So yes. I am completely serious. Anyone who gives ultimate decision to the fans is doomed to stagnate. That goes for games, bands, artists, anything.
