Did any of you ever have any embarassing/frustrating rumors spread about you in high school? Or bullies who heckled you? I only had one rumor incident, (i hope) and it was embarassing AND frustrating.
My Sophomore year in high school one of my friends told me that this guy was interested in me. I'm single, and he was very attractive, so I went for it. We hung out a couple times and were sort of dating without making a big deal about it. I was a carefree/easygoing person in high school. (pothead gamer girl to sum it up)
So, one morning in class, an "acquaintance" told me who she had had her jollies with the previous weekend. I was feeling conversative, so I told her about mine. When I told her she got this funny look on her face and I knew I had made a mistake. After class, I saw her walking acrossed the grass to none other than the guy I was seeings ex-girlfriend. I think they had gone out for about two years. I saw them talking and looking directly at me, and I knew I had made a mistake by telling this girl about my weekend.
So, I pretty much stop talking to this guy, just because of the fact that he was pretty arrogant and not really for me. No kidding, after hanging out with him enough I saw that he was full of himself, and thats not attractive to me. But, even though that was over I wasn't done with his ex girlfriend yet. Unknown to me, she was still in love with him, and was busy spreading rumors behind my back.
So I go to school one day, about 2 weeks after this guy and I stopped talking, and one of my friends asked me, "hey, are you stalking so and so?" I honestly forgot this girls name besides her first name, but I'll spare it. I told my friend where she heard that, and she told me, Oh, "so and so" is telling practically the whole school that your stalking her and the guy. (The one I went on like, 5 dates with)
At first I didn't believe it, because it wasn't true. But soon given how many people confronted me about it I knew the rumor had spread like wildfire and it was serious. Now honestly, I didn't know what to do because I had never confronted a situation like this. Everytime I walked past this girl in the school I would hear my name being said and chuckling. About a week later, I was being heckled by just about everyone about things. People thought I was in love with that guy, and stalking his ex. I had a class with one of his friends, and they were telling the class about a concert they were putting on, then he looked directly at me, and said, "And "so and so" will be there..." That frustrated me enough. I didn't know what to do. The same girl that I told about my weekend who told this spiteful ex girlfriend asked me a day later if I was driving past this girls house at all hours of the night. I honestly didn't know where this girl lived. I actually had one of my friends who knew where she lived tell me where she lived so I could avoid that street alltogether. I really wanted to confront this girl, but thought if I did things would get worse, and I knew things would just blow over. Honestly, I would have rather have been falsely announced pregnant or something, than stalker, because that makes everyone think your insane.
Then finally, one day in school, a teacher mentioned it in front of everyone. He said, "I heard you were following "so and so" around", followed by "Thats what she told the whole class yesterday." That was the last straw for me. I seriously thought I needed to go speak to the principal, firstly to complain about the girl and also the teacher for heckling me about it. But I decided not to, I thought it would only make things worse.
So, one day after school, I pulled into my driveway and got out of my car, only to look behind my car and saw "so and so" sitting in my driveway with her friend. I walked up to her car and she said "We need to talk." and I said: "You bet we do."
So she followed me to an unannounced location that wasn't my driveway. As I walk up to her car she told me: "You need to stop stalking me." I said: "I don't know whats going on that would make you think I am, besides possibly being spiteful."
She said "Your driving past my house all the time, and I know it's you, I know your license plate number." (Yes, she really said that)
I said "Who the hell is stalking who? You know my license plate number? This is crazy."I avoid you at all costs because of this, and your too dim to get it, If I see a car driving down the road that even resembles yours, I make a hard right turn just to avoid you telling people that I'm stalking you, we live in a small town, we're bound to run into each other." I said "I even had a friend TELL me where you lived, not that I can drive past, like your telling everyone, but to AVOID it."
She kept trying to interupt me, and take control of the conversation, but I wouldn't let her. I wanted to end it then and there. I told her "Lets just end this, you won't talk about me, I won't talk about you, or your stupid guy your being so vengeful about." and "The more you bring this up, the more you are starting to look like the crazy one."
And then, just as soon as things got bad, things got better for me. The rumors and heckling stopped, and I knew I had handled it well. So and so's friend that was in her car the day we confronted told me that she believed every word I said. She thought that "so and so" was crazy. So, things turned up for me, but that was BY FAR the worst two months of high school for me.
Actually, about a year after that, I was riding around with my friend and "so and so" called her. She asked me after she got off the phone if I wanted to hang out with "so and so". I said no, and promptly took her back to her house. My friend told me, "She said she's sorry, I think it would be good if we all just hung out."
I said no still, I said "I'm sorry but that girl made me look insane when I wasn't doing anything wrong. Just because she was upset that I dated her exboyfriend a couple times. She made my life a living hell for awhile, and causing me to go into my house and hide from something that I wasn't even looking for in the first place."
So after trying to persuade me again, she gave up, and went into her house. That was confirmation that the worst of high school was over.
Now, 4 years out of high school, I look back at that situation and laugh, because, the situation in itself was retarded, and I think people just ended up thinking that "so and so" was the crazy one. Just sharing a high school story, what happened to you?
