I'm glad that sony didn't make a game based on muslim beliefs. There was near world riot when they had a drawing of allah imagine if they actually did a videogame.

Not saying this to be mean or offensive but the reason that religon is so important is because the countries were the offended religons are based are poor and unruly(for lack of a non offensive word) and have only there religon that stays true.

I have never realy understood why people who believe in a certain religon care if other people poke fun at their god. According to most religons if you make fun of the god then your going to a bad place of some kind so i would think the believers would be like well at least i don't have to deal with that SOB when i get my virgins or achieve nirvana.
I want to see a game depicting all religions - as many as can be stuffed into the game all their deities and heroes interacting- that would be fun.
Fun for the first week then all hell will break lose. I could see a world war 3 following that game. Plus if you think about it the game wouldn't be that good because everybody would get ponned by kazuluthurukumudado, the only people that would come out on top scientologist and i'm not ready for a world that horrifying. and i probably never will be.

They should just throw all their eggs in one basket and put all the Gods into some crazy beat-em-up game. It would be awesome.
That'd be awesome, Like Super Smash Bros with gods. Jesus vs Buddha would be epic.
There's actually a manga where Jesus and Buddha both incarnate themselves to live on Earth as mortals. In modern Japan. And they're roommates and best friends.

It's totally hilarious and Japanese.

Oh lord. This is why we really shouldn't make video games that let play as a real god/entity.
Games like Black & White let play as a god but they don't specify which god you're playing as.
No - we need MORE games that depict deities.
I agree. Especially the more popular ones. Free speech is free speech, and if anything, I'd hate to see christians or hindu saying that it's okay to fuck with Greek and Norse gods but not their god(s).

But, yeah, otherwise, it seems like a pretty bad move for Sony.

remember that this isnt the usa we are talking about.

If it is acceptable to make a game about the Greek gods it is acceptable to make one about the Hindu Gods, or God I am not sure how it works.

Any ideology that can't handle criticism shouldn't be an ideology. Plus I kind of like the idea of a game starting WW3. Imagine Jack Thompson's response....
What about followers of Cthulhu? How many people have to worship something before it becomes a religion?[/quote]

Cthulu has to be the most bad ass god because he has like power and stuff and he is an alien or whatever tom cruise says so in the game he would kick ass. Of course scientologists would just sit back and wait for everybody to kill themselves and then take over the world.

Does anyone else find it funny that people are decrying the protests of Hindus who are upset about this, shouting 'Silly Hindus! It's free speech!', yet it's that same freedom that allows the Hindus to protest their feelings on the game.

You don't have to agree with their protest, but they have the right to do it.

And for those 'other games' that depicted the barely worshiped gods of days gone past: If people were offended, they should have been vocal. It certainly was their right. But they weren't and/or didn't stick with it and the game is out there. These Hindus obviously are a bit more vocal, and obviously aren't going to go away as quietly. That's their right.

For all those saying 'deal with it' to the Hindus, I say to you: It's their right to protest. Deal with it.

Props to Sony for going so far afield with their game concepts. More props to Sony for featuring a character with an army of monkeys [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Ptitlefr5h9p9h6i92]. Major anti-props to Sony for either not fathoming that this would get people pissed off after the Resistance cathedral incident, the Little Big Planet muslim songs incident, and so on or depending on religion baiting to sell things.

Who cares what the Hindu's believe or think about this game? Who cares what the ancient Romans would've thought of God of War, or what Christians think when I tell my zombie Jesus story every Easter?

Censoring our ideas because somebody's belief system may not be compatible with it is ridiculous. It's backwards. Traditions are old, and the only way to keep moving forward is stop listening to these people who are holding onto old, stagnant ideas.

If they don't like it, they shouldn't buy the game. It's as easy as that.

It's their freedom to protest.

It's my freedom to mock them relentlessly for protesting.

Mmm, democracy.

Quick someone made a videogame based on something I believe in. I now have two options completely ignore it as it has no effect on my beliefs at all or have a hissy fit.

Who am I kidding there is only one option and that is to have a hissy fit.
Now you know how the media works.

Edit:

Waitwaiwait...
Wasn't there a game where a control a Japanese wolf god or something and go around saving the world with a magical paintbrush? [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Okami]

Maybe they should STFU and enjoy the free press.

Because watching him and playing as him are two different things, I expect.
