So... yeah.

It was about 7 A.M. this morning. The sun has not fully risen, yet. On my way to school today, I see that the traffic was severly slow. As the line to the parking lot moved on, I notice a couple of police cruisers and an ambulance. There had been a wreck. It involved a student from my local Highschool. And that student was hit by a car.

The twist? The student was riding his skateboard in the middle of the road lanes.

The student was hospitalized and I haven't heard a word on the matter, since.

tl;dr a kid was hit by a car while he was riding his skateboard in the middle of the road.

I honestly don't know what to say. Sure, a person getting hit by a car is tragic, but riding your skateboard in the middle of the road? That is just... stupid.

So, what do you guys/gals think? Do you feel sympathy for the kid or some other rage-induced feeling?

I agree with above, apathy. And completely deserved. Hope it hurt because some poor car driver will now be shook up over the incident and probably being harshly questioned.

I once got hit by a push bike whilst stationary at a road junction in my car, one of the witnesses called the police because the cyclist was not getting back up. When the police arrived instead of help the guy they just blamed me repeatedly and said it was clearly dangerous driving, they would not accept that fact it was a cyclist's fault. It couldn't possibly be, everyone knows the car driver is ALWAYS in the wrong. They were going to arrest me and such but the cyclist told them it was his fault after the paramedics had fixed him up a bit. Thank God he did. It's completely stupid how the police and witnesses blamed the car driver over a cyclist even though I was completely stationary waiting to pull onto the main road and he just went into my car at speed.

Rule number one you learn at our driving schools here:
"As a car driver it's always your fault (if you hit someone who is using something less than a car)!"

Bad luck for both, I think. Hate to be car driver at that moment.

I'll be sure to remind you what people fucking deserve when one of your family members are caught in a fucking accident. Have a little fucking respect, no one deserves this.
You see my family have something called common sense, they generally don't go wandering in traffic and other stupid things like that. The guy in this case did deserve it, it's not everyone else's job to look out for your safety, everyone should be looking out for their own.

Someone with any sense of responsibility for their own actions ought to consider how they affect others.
The only reason people don't get run over walking in front of my car without looking is because I wouldn't do well in prison... This concept of everyone having to look after each other is the reason health and safety laws are so stupid, we have the nanny state and defective genes are no longer eliminated.

EDIT: I do care how I effect others, it's just I'm not going to spend my entire time looking out for people who wont do so for themselves. I suppose it's similar to work, why should I be working to pay taxes for the people who just don't want to work?

It was not the smartest of actions to go skateboarding in the middle of the road, but getting hospitalized is not something he deserves. The punishment for his actions is not up to us, unfortunately.

I feel sorry for the driver of the car, and the kids family for that matter. You should take the people around you in consideration for a lot that you do.

Yeah, that's basically my take on it. I mean, unless someone jumps off a bridge and lands on your car, there's always steps you can take as a driver to avoid accidents. You're the one driving two tonnes of metal traveling at high speeds that can brake in an instant. You're the one who should be paying attention.

Not saying I really hate the driver or want them to feel terrible or even really blame them, but I'm saying that's an awful responsibility for them to have to live with.

I mean, saying this kid deserved it is like saying any kid who ever played any sport in the street outside their home or school deserves to be run over by a car that didn't slow down because of the awareness that there might be kids in the street.

You mean the genes that make people misunderstand evolution that badly? Yes, if only we could eliminate those.

But really, that just speaks ill of you as a person. You're selfish and don't consider others.

And seriously? Worrying about how your own actions affect others makes a nanny state? Get real. No, I never called for the government worrying.
Strange how I never mentioned evolution isn't it? However go with your pretence of knowing oh so much more than me and explain just how defective genes are eliminated then? Oh wait I think it was called natural selection, the thing we have greatly stunted with political correctness and coddling each other. Also, for future reference, genetics doesn't dictate your understanding of a topic or its implications. Just so you know.

I consider other's I just think I shouldn't be doing their work for them, they're stupid enough to go playing in traffic? I ain't going to waste my time telling them it'd dumb.

Worrying about how every tiny little action will inconvenience or hurt someone else is exactly what causes a nanny state, all the stupidity the government brings into law in this regard is generally called for by these groups who take worrying over everyone else to extremes.

I fell bad that the driver will probably be blamed. Either the driver or Videogames.

Ehh, not quite the same thing for comparison, but I can see what you're trying to get at. Most kids who play in the streets do so on their home street where traffic is generally slow if any comes by at all. Plus the kids tend to stop what they're doing and let cars to through first. Seems more like this kid was riding his board in the middle of an actual street with multiple lanes.

OT: I don't know why he couldn't just keep to the sidewalk or maybe off to the side of the road but to say he deserves it is quite harsh. It's a rather glaring risk to riding your skateboard in the middle of the road that you're only increasing the odds of you getting hit. Not really anybody's fault per say, but just another unfortunate accident that's really going to mess up a good number of lives.
