This is ridiculous. Here in Sweden we don't have anything like that. Hell, whatever police we have that aren't paperturners only drive around in their big Volvo police cars and do nothing. Everyone I know swears like a sailor with Fuck coming out of almost every sentence at times.

The people in Australia should fucking go lynchmob on the politicians asses!

England? What are you on about, there's nothing like this here, and the Police are perfectly fine.

Finally, I am so sick of people swearing so much.

Some people don't hate swearing, but when every single person is swearing non-stop all day everyday you get kinda sick of it.

So go on, bring the fines.
Holy fucking shit go grow some balls, if you can't handle the cunting swearing go build your self a bloody bubble to cry in.

Sorry about that, but it seems I'm going to do twice as much swearing on the internet to make up for the lack of swearing IRL.Unless the Escapist mods crack down on me, then I'll have to do it all in my mind :(
If Australia copies the U.S.'s killswitch idea you can also do that swearing along with fantasizing in your mind!

I'd say I'm not partial to swearing myself... but then again, I've been doing it myself, so maybe I'm not one to talk.

Woah, Guys, don't get so offended by this guy. If he doesn't like swearing, that's his buisness. And it's certainly his right to freely say that he doesn't like it. Ok, so this ban thing maybe shitty, but lashing out at someone for not seeing it as a bad thing is the wrong approach*. Chill out.

*Could you guys tell me if my spelling is right?
My intent was humor.
Sorry. It read like an attack on the poor guy. Maybe put a lol or something at the end.

They are only strict on minor shit like this in the UK. If you get robbed or stabbed or something you get the classic "there isn't much we can do so we aren't going to try" bullshit

Edit: Also, sucks man. Just swear really loudly in your house with the windows open

[sup]EDIT: Stop quoting me, I know that you guys don't like my opinion but coming back to this thread over and over just to see the people abusing me is not fun.[/sup]
One, if you're posting your opinion on the internet, expect it to be criticized (poorly, often). Two, even if you're not into swearing, anyone with half a brain can see this as a severe violation of free speech and individual rights. Now, I'm guessing the police won't heavily enforce this, but how would you feel if the government decided that words you use deserve to be fined? Or even better, what if they passed a law that prevented you from disagreeing with the government? It's a long, slippy slope, placing fines on words will do nothing, this is the perfect example of the government getting involved in something that is none of its fucking business.

Swearing shouldn't be taken that serious. It is actually considered a form of stress relieve. (I believe Harvard University proved this).
If I accidentally drop something valuable (for example a ming-vase, $2000 camera or my motorcylce) I'm not going to say "ow, gosh darned" or "ow my ow my what bad luck". No I'll be swearing. And trust me; people around me are going to hear it.

Like the great Lewis Black once said: There is no bad language. We are adults. These are the words we use to discribe anger, frustration and rage. In order that we don't pick up a tire-iron and beat the shit out of eachother.

And so end my 2 cents
this.

i almost never used a cuss word at a specific person, but GOD DAMMIT if i am gonna talk, and a cuss word can help describe the emotion or relive some stress at the moment, you can bet your ass im gonna say it.

Kinda like when my class captain blew a fuse and said "STOP SWEARING IN THE PRESENCE OF THE TEACHER, YOU LITTLE SHI-"

One of those "Oops" moments?
Yup. Funny as hell, especially when you saw the Class Captain's face!
Damn how I wish I had the power of Remote-postcognitive viewing right now.

BTW I made up that power. Copyrighting as we speak. You must now pay me royalties of $100 everytime a police officer hears you say it. (Just to add to your woes!)

that's so fucking stupid

i'm not opposed to swearing when it's necessary, i think it can actually be very beneficial when emphsising a point, that actually is a limit on freedom of speech

bollocks to that

Odd considering that, during part of the history, Australia was used as prison. I'm not sure how prevalent that was but, still...somewhat ironic. I doublechecked the history on Wikipedia but, if there's some misunderstanding, let me know and I will correct it and apologize for any offense.

If you're so immature and moronic to use such language in front of an officer, you deserve more then a fine. Also if you think its infringing or oppressing your freedom of speech, think of it as verbal assault.
Fuck you. The police where I live are crooked and corrupt enough that they're almost worse than the criminals. And you think that people should have their inalienable, GOD GIVEN rights restricted so as to not hurt their feelings?

Fuck you right to hell.
I should hit you my child...
Because clearly, your parents did not.
You should know better then to talk to people in that tone.
