You've GOT to be shitting me.

How can anyone be this stupid, I mean SERIOUSLY, SERIOUSLY, WHO THE FUCK CAN BE THIS FUCKING STUPID?!

"OH WELL GEE THESE DARN KIDDIES ARE SWEARIN ALL OVER THE PLACE, GUESS WE GOTTA SET THOSE YOUNGSTERS IN THEIR PLACE! I KNOW! LET'S CHARGE THEM WHIPPERSNAPPERS A HUNDRED SMACKERS EVERYTIME THEY DO ANYTHING I THINK IS EVEN SLIGHTLY DISSAGREEABLE TO ANYBODY! THAT'LL SHOW EM!"

^^^ That's what I imagine them saying in their heads. In all seriousness though, who comes off thinking that they have the right to fine someone a HUNDRED DOLLARS for swearing? Soon enough, it'll be for being incorrect in any way. Like if you are going down the street, and somebody is offended by a t-shirt you happen to be wearing that says "Coldplay" on it because they think Coldplay sucks, you get fined a couple hundred bucks.

Who can posibly be this dense? Even the US' own Senator Leiberman is preferable to the shitface who thought this one up...

Its all down to whether or not you're near an individual with the power to give you the fine when you swear. In england if you swear near a police officer you get arrested and given a criminal record for public disorder.
no? the public order act or "riot act" as its more commonly known covers it to an extent however swearing "near a police officer" will not incur any wrath what so ever. The only time you'll get anything in return is if you are swearing at them, or you are accompanying such language with aggressive behaviour toward them or somebody else, even then the fact your swearing wont get much, your behaviour thats going with it on the other hand probably will

Trust me the swearing is completely relevant. In the Queensland state of Australia they are now giving out fines for SWEARING in public, $100 fines to be exact.

http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/latest/7403159/qld-cops-to-issue-fines-for-swearing-in-public/

I post alot of shit Australia does(mostly involving Gaming and Internet) but this is the first time it is appearing in just my state, and in real life to. I think I found the problem guys, it's me.

That's right, it is me who is causing all this shit in Australia. Why?Every single time a story like this pops up I say to myself,"I'm going to leave Australia if this shit keeps happening" but I pussy out and keep putting it off. So as soon as I turn of legal age I'm off this fucking island but now I at least can feel good about it, if I leave I may break the curse or whatever. Because if I stay and they implement 'mandatory tracking chips' in our brains which fine us our soul$9001 I'll have only myself to blame.

I'm totally serious btw, I'm not a fan of censorship and don't want to have anything to di with a country that prohibits free speech.
You owe the state of Queensland 400$ for the use of S--t and P---y.

To be serious, Australia just looks like it's going down hill. I'd wanna leave if I was living there too. I recommend you move to America, and when you find a city to live in, swear your heart out.

People who pass flagrantly unconstitutional legislation like this should be brought up on treason charges.

Sounds like political suicide. Seriously, who would vote the guy back in office who passed a silly, "every time you say a bad word in public it's $100" law?

Having said that, if you swear at a police officer you're a tool and probably deserve a $100 fine just for being stupid so I can see their point of view too. It would be a better law in the hands of a more reasonable police force than the QLD one.
That's just the thing: who is this new legislation targeting?

Obviously it can't be the general public: no sane officer is going to start handing out tickets every time he hears someone cuss off-handedly when they stub their toes/spill their coffee/whatever. Odds are this is only going to be used on

A) People swearing at the police during arrests/questioning (in which case you deserve what you get.)
B) People being extremely obnoxious over a long period of time to everyone in public (as in, something similar to a low-level disorderly conduct charge.)

Heck, the article linked explicitly mentions that this is targeting "drunken louts" and the like.

Wow that sucks, no offense to any Australian's but I don't think I'll be visiting anytime soon. Not just because of the wildlife being on steroids but your government sucks balls.

So what happens to people with Tourette's?
Contrary to popular belief and anything on television, only about 10% of Tourette's patients are diagnosed with coprolalia, which is the involuntary swearing. Most people with Tourette's have mild cases with tics of eye blinking, coughing, throat clearing, sniffing, and facial movements.

Seriously, going to run through streets being chased by a mop of police writing tickets just so i can say "I owe the country of Australia 50,000 worth of ticket fines"
Just so i can say it happened, sitting at a bar telling stories and you say " I once got chased 5 miles through a city in Australia with a mob of 50-70 police chasin after me" And i defy anyone to top that story, if it doesn't involve being chased by 50 police officers it won't top it

Why can I just see an Aussie cop hiding in a dustbin next to a group of twenty-something year olds? This law will not end well.

If you're so immature and moronic to use such language in front of an officer, you deserve more then a fine. Also if you think its infringing or oppressing your freedom of speech, think of it as verbal assault.
Fuck you. The police where I live are crooked and corrupt enough that they're almost worse than the criminals. And you think that people should have their inalienable, GOD GIVEN rights restricted so as to not hurt their feelings?

Fuck you right to hell.
I should hit you my child...
Because clearly, your parents did not.
You should know better then to talk to people in that tone.
Not once did my parents ever lay a hand on me in anger, nor in some kind of misguided sense of discipline. For that, they have my undying respect and reverence.

But my parents are of no relevance to the topic at hand.

You say that I should know better than to speak to others in that tone? The tone was of anger and righteousness. Both of these attributes are well deserved.

You insinuate firstly that my freedom of speech, a God-given right, should be limited. This angers me. All people should be free to speak as they please, and too express their opinion through speech.

And that includes you, for though I wish that you would not hold the opinions that you do, I cannot stop you from expressing them.

But secondly, you declare that those who speak out against the police "deserve more than a fine." Police, who as fascists abuse their power to meet their quotas, and as a cruel form of sport.

Absolutely should this be protested, and with absolute certainty may those who protest call their oppressors "fucking fascist dickheads."

Between There and There.

Hahahaha... they'd have to actually list the words they wanted to make finable if this was in South Australia because thanks to the magic of legal precedence there are no words that are in and of themselves 'offensive' but the way they are used and intent behind them. Actus rea. BAM. Mens rea. BAM. Both barrels of solid legal principle up their arses.

And yet here R rated DVDs have to be in plain covers and those fucking idiots in Croydon keep electing Atkinson.
