Actually, where I live there are laws against swearing, however, the only cops that enforce it are the ones scraping the bottom of the barrel just trying to give you a ticket for something. Far as I know most US cities have laws like that, public decency and all that BS.

If you're so immature and moronic to use such language in front of an officer, you deserve more then a fine. Also if you think its infringing or oppressing your freedom of speech, think of it as verbal assault.
Fuck you. The police where I live are crooked and corrupt enough that they're almost worse than the criminals. And you think that people should have their inalienable, GOD GIVEN rights restricted so as to not hurt their feelings?

Fuck you right to hell.
I should hit you my child...
Because clearly, your parents did not.
You should know better then to talk to people in that tone.
Not once did my parents ever lay a hand on me in anger, nor in some kind of misguided sense of discipline. For that, they have my undying respect and reverence.

But my parents are of no relevance to the topic at hand.

You say that I should know better than to speak to others in that tone? The tone was of anger and righteousness. Both of these attributes are well deserved.

You insinuate firstly that my freedom of speech, a God-given right, should be limited. This angers me. All people should be free to speak as they please, and too express their opinion through speech.

And that includes you, for though I wish that you would not hold the opinions that you do, I cannot stop you from expressing them.

But secondly, you declare that those who speak out against the police "deserve more than a fine." Police, who as fascists abuse their power to meet their quotas, and as a cruel form of sport.

Absolutely should this be protested, and with absolute certainty may those who protest call their oppressors "fucking fascist dickheads."
Swearing is a sign of stupidity.
Obviously your parents didnt raise you right or you would know that, they should have hit you.

If you're too stupid to express yourself without swearing you really shouldn't say anything at all.
Freedom of speech, and verbal assault are two very different things.
If you verbally assaulted an officer that way, well you'd probably get dragged to the ground and arrested, rightly so. Bring up his mother and he might kick the crap out of you.

Between There and There.
Country
The Wide, Brown One.
As most Australian States and Territories assign quite flexible discretionary powers to their police, most filth don't sweat the small stuff unless they don't like the look of you, you've given them a reason to look for things to grief you with, or there's political pressure on them to 'clean up' something or other.

Odd considering that, during part of the history, Australia was used as prison.
Parts of it were. Not all the colonies that became the constituent states served as penal colonies.
Ah, thanks for the info.

Why can I just see an Aussie cop hiding in a dustbin next to a group of twenty-something year olds?
Because you have no idea what a bunch of lazy cocks most Aussie filth are?
I'm assuming you don't like your country...

Besides, they can't be that lazy if they are willing to go to the trouble of creating a whole new law that takes time and money and effort.

In South Carolina, the fine for swearing in public was $500 a word last I looked it up.
Luckily, it isn't enforced.
You have it lucky, you get a jerk of an officer, you pay $100
I get a jerk of an officer, I pay $500

Trust me the swearing is completely relevant. In the Queensland state of Australia they are now giving out fines for SWEARING in public, $100 fines to be exact.

http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/latest/7403159/qld-cops-to-issue-fines-for-swearing-in-public/

I post alot of shit Australia does(mostly involving Gaming and Internet) but this is the first time it is appearing in just my state, and in real life to. I think I found the problem guys, it's me.

That's right, it is me who is causing all this shit in Australia. Why?Every single time a story like this pops up I say to myself,"I'm going to leave Australia if this shit keeps happening" but I pussy out and keep putting it off. So as soon as I turn of legal age I'm off this fucking island but now I at least can feel good about it, if I leave I may break the curse or whatever. Because if I stay and they implement 'mandatory tracking chips' in our brains which fine us our soul$9001 I'll have only myself to blame.

I'm totally serious btw, I'm not a fan of censorship and don't want to have anything to di with a country that prohibits free speech.
Apparently you don't have children.
It's in PUBLIC!
Come on! How would you feel if your child started swearing because they heard it from some idiot when he was at the store?

Some people are offended by swearing you know. I can't believe this is such a big deal.

*this post assumes you are from America*
Freedom of speech is not and has never been god given. It is allowed as a privilege the government gives. The constitution defined the rights the founding fathers say you have, not God. If they were god given, why are people in other global areas unable to exercise the right to free speech? You get your rights from the government, not from a deity.
Swearing equals hate speech. Hate speech is not allowed by the constitution (free speech is ok until it becomes hate speech (paraphrased)), and so swearing at an officer would not e a right given to you by the constitution, and hence not "god-given"
I do believe in god by the way, so don't throw the atheist argument at me.

England? I've never heard of anything like that here. About the worst I've seen is a curfew around local shops to stop idiot teens (that I am notone of) getting stoned outside the church.

Wow thats just a total moneyscam. Yes, people are going to swear when tripping, falling down and spraining their ankle. Doesn't Austrailia have free speech laws? Because I'm sure this violates them.

Swearing like a drunk Scotsman is not part of your right to free speech. And I'm sure athiests would contest the "god-given" bit. "those who speak out against the police"- You misread his post. Reread and try again.

Oh, and reported.

The mod-wrath here will be of biblical proportions. XD

And quite frankly, I don't live in Queensland, so I don't really give a damn.

Edit: As a side note, I'm honestly suprised at just how many people in this thread still think Michael Atkinson's still in power.

HE STEPPED DOWN, PEOPLE. GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEADS.
