Hm, if you live in AU and get the game for PC than you may be in luck because a (un)official mod may come out that will remedy the whole censoring thing. But yes there's no nooed to comment on how fucking stupid the situation is.

I loved the violence. It's so much fun :D
I haven't seen this kind of dismemberment since SOF2, and I'm glad I can shoot half the zombie's torso off with a shotgun. I spend a few seconds checking the gory remains in the aftermath of an attack.

I agree that some people might not like that, and everyone has the right to enjoy the level of violence they are comfortable with in a game, so a violence setting would be fine (if the game doesn't have one already... I didn't check).

Are you serious?

I thought the violence was very cartoony and silly. Made me chuckle.

Don't ever play Condemned 2...

Don't mind it, but I question why it's there

More realistic, I suppose, but I thought this was going for the cinematic "Bulletwounds = holes in your shirt" look

I think the gore would have been better if it was soley Realism mode, as it would have added another dimension to that mode

I really think that the jump in violence follows their jump in, well, realism - in a way. I've seen explicit bits of trailers and watched over the shoulder of demo players from time to time and from what I can tell, Valve has done a lot to edge away from the arcade-y "Grindhouse" feel of the first Left 4 Dead for a less comedic and subtle tone; to become a more epic, over-the-top Dawn of the Dead feel. Not that either one is bad, in fact, I think both are great- just in different ways.

Yeah, my favorite weapon is the machete. For OBVIOUS reasons!

As for OP's issue: No, the violence is fine in L4D+L4D2. It's a zombie game. I don't expect it to be E rated.

Understanding the border between real and fake violence makes it that much easier for me to take it. I personally like the violence in video games. I like sawing people in half, tearing their spines from their necks, I actually LIKED Manhunt. There is no line for a game to cross, because I know it's fake.
Precisely. Unfortunately, most people don't seem to get that. Personally I loved Manhunt. It is an excellent game, and one of the very few game I've actually finished.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
the gore was definatly a suprise, Ive never seen 3d gore done like that before, in the way they did enemy death in doom2 and all thoes old sprite fps games. Altho its kinda ramped up to an unrealistic level when your shooting things with a shotgun from a long distance and see its torso explode, I mean personaly I kinda like the feedback but Id preffer it to not be as casual.

I actually like the dismemberment, it adds to the whole zed movie feel. While playing the demo I shot one of the swat and BLEW OUT HIS ASS! I repeat: I blew out his ass. IT was so over the top that me and my friends just started laughing hysterically.

L4D 1 was a bit to intense for me. I stopped playing it at night because I would see Zombies rushing me every time I close my eyes. That sort of thing does not lead to a very restful night's sleep. I trust valve to ramp things up for the sequel and they can trust me not to play it right away. As the OP stated, I have much love for Valve and their game development skills, I just don't think wandering arround their latest zombie apocylipse is going to be my thing.

I played the demo and didn't really notice a difference in the level of gore, though I can't say I was actively looking for it. What I did notice was that the difficulty level seemed a little higher and that the suspense and pure numbers of horde charging were just as well executed in broad daylight as dreary night scenes from the original. The graphics look a little sharper in general, and I'm sure I'll notice the next time I boot up or pick up the full version.

I'm a realist - I like my games to not cross thew boundaries of sense and realism (based on the story they are telling)

and I'm fine with it.

If you slice someone with a machete; a red blob isn't going to appear on their bodies and they fall down - there will be an affect; your weapon will get bloody; gut's will start falling out.

Our bodies are disgusting.

I guess some games rely on atmosphere as much as gameplay and though the gore adds nothing whatsoever to the gameplay it's pretty vital for the atmosphere. It may seem a little like smoke and mirrors, but I still think the gore is a vital part of a game about zombies.

That said I do think L4D2 is overdoing it. It's not more than I can handle, but it's definitely more than I think is tasteful. I think that a big part of it is that the L4D zombies look incredibly human, even for a zombie. When you know you're slaying a monster it's easy to justify the guts falling out, but the infected sort of blur the line, at least subconsciously.

Haven't decided whether or not to buy it yet. I probably won't get it to play on my own, but if a friend calls me to a LAN sometime in the future I can see it being fun ^^

Am I the only one that was pissed that after blowing off a leg and an arm, a normal zombie can still keep attacking? And adding near invincible swat zombies! god, if l4d was meant to bring players together in play than l4d2 is meant to make players rage quit together.
(p.s. anyone else find macheteing the jackal way to fun!?)

I wanna give my two cents about the violence.

It is wonderfully done! Seriously, it is so immersive and makes the game more enjoyable for me because it's just the coolest thing to be down on the ground fighting for your life with your pistol and you shoot a zombie's throat off and it's bloody corpse falls onto you while it still has that monstorous glare in its eyes. Seeing heads explode when smacking them with a guitar is a bit...odd, but at least the violence is contextual, it doesn't take me out of the experience because my bullets and machetes don't look like they are doing a damn thing to the zombies - it just adds to it.

I'm obviously not so immersed that I'm actually thinking I am in the game or something, but it is nice to see that not everything just "ragdolls" when you kill it, it looks like you do some bloody damage for once.

It was pretty sick in L4D too IIRC, but it was multiplied by 10 fold in L4D2.

I admit the amount of gore turns it from being a survival horror to being a bit like a roflknife sliecsliecsliec fest, which is fun, but not what l4d is about. I never thought id say it but i wish there was a few less airborne limbs.
L4D was never a survival horror game to begin with IMO.

WAY to much like an action game for me.

A few things:

1) Caps are not cool. If anything, they make everyone immediately dislike you (unless it's in irony) and not care what you say.
2) Try to read the post before commenting so as not to make yourself look like an idiot. She didn't show surprise at the violence, but at the level of it.
3) Not contributing to the thread is called 'trolling', if you keep doing it, you will almost certainly get probation/suspension because people like the forums to be a friendly place.
1) I think he was using caps in irony, that was the point.

2) Yeah, the fact that she was surprised by the amount of violence is pretty silly in my opinion, I mean, it's a zombie game, where you use chainsaws to cut them up, what did she honestly expect?

3) If that's trolling then more than half the posts on this site that go unmoderated are trolling.

When people post ironic comments they usually tend to give a real answer afterwards (which he has now).

Not really, Valve have only done gore in a comical way (TF2) before, so for them to have some serious levels of it is somewhat surprising (although not necessarily bad) I don't see why everyone needs to jump on new topics straight away. If people don't see why it's surprising then maybe they should give a valid discussion on why it isn't rather than being sarcastic.

Yes, they are. Some are small enough that the Mods don't bother with them.

To be honest i think it adds just a little to the game. Even if others disagree it doesnt take anything away either.

First off decapitating a zombie means you can see the other bastard running in from behind him and act accordingly. Same when im in a massive crowd of them and limbs are flying and i can see just how deep the crowd is.

That and the first time i shot at one of the zombie and its arm came off and it didn't even slow it down....i crapped my pants and hacking through zombies is just funny. It wouldn't be the same if they didn't show actual body damage.
