This is... Interesting...

I thought the game was going to be like a 65/100, But then again, You never know until you play it.

Wow. Just wow. It doesn't even look like you were trying to avoid proving my point. As far as I'm aware the Escapist is one of few places where these kind of objections ever even come up, so good on them for wanting better I say.
If your game of the year wasn't Guild Wars 2, I would lose all hope.

So... the one reason you're not dismissing him as a lesser being is because he likes a game you deem worthy of being liked.

Tell me I've got that wrong.

Honestly, I'm with him, to an extent. It is true that the response towards this game is exactly what I've come to expect of the Escapist community generally (thus making it a "typical escapist response"). Homefront is a game with iron sights aiming and regenerating health, set in the modern day - the accusations of it being a "CoD clone" were visible a mile off. And since plenty of people on the Escapist hate anything that isn't innovative, and the current massive argument isn't at all surprising.

Myself, I'm of the firm belief that the formula exists because it works, and following it is not a bad thing if done in moderation. Besides, I've heard plenty of talk that Homefront's multiplayer incorporates several innovative concepts - but as another feature of the Escapist is that the majority of members prefer singleplayer to multiplayer, nobody cares, and it gets accusations of stagnation anyway.

I don't get it. Who gives a shit if a game is a Call of Duty clone or not? If it bothers people that much, why are they not just ignoring the game entirely?

Personally, I might give Homefront a shot at some point. The complete and utter ridiculousness of North Korea invading the USA appeals to my love of things that are batshit insane.

Have no fear, you pretty much entirely missed the point.

Well, despite all the hate that seems to be going on here, I'M personally excited for a story-driven, FPS that doesn't have a drawn-out, single-player campaign. I hope this game does really well and I hope people will shut up about it and at least give it a chance before condemning it!

Honestly, it feels like FPS games have become the "jocks" of the gaming world and get a ton of unbridled hatred just for the amount of exposure they get.

Just a show of the now expect "typical escapist post"

No offense to the poster but...

this isnt my name said:
Looks like a generic fps, the gameplay shown was just trying to cause controversy, as was advertising, the writer sucks (red dawn = bullshit), the ending sucks, and by the looks of it, ets up a nice cash grab, the gameplay isnt gurilla warfare at all.

Game fails completely, just a CoD reskin.

as to not be lumped in with those who say "another generic FPS", i would say i am personally not interested in this game. on a separate note, i also think this game seems to have a fair bit in common with popular FPS games like the CoD series.
HOWEVER this is not why i am not getting this game. i have 2 reasons.

1. don't really have the money to spend on a game which i have not been able to play a demo of, i am only mildly interested in, and have not played a previous title in the series.

2. i don't see what it does differently to other 'generic' FPS games. honestly, i do love the fps genre of games, but certain features are starting to bore me a bit. the usual bland locations, the same old heroes, and the same old multiplayer. i mean, bulletstorm enticed me with skillshots, a way of telling me i did a good job and patting me on the head for shooting a guy in the nads, portal will be a physics/puzzle FPS, and the new Duke + Serious Sam will be silly shooters that at least add some variety. simply put, i've played games which are and seem similar to that in the CoD series, and i've played them too much. i want something different, and homefront will not accommodate that.

however from what i've seen, it does look pretty similar to CoD (i'm not saying it is, because i haven't played it) and if that style of gameplay floats your boat, i don't see why homefront would disappoint.

What's that? An overmarketed generic FPS gets a 9/10?

Stop the presses, I wanna get off.

I really love formulaic comments calling a game generic. Pot, kettle.

I'm going to wait to actually play the game before making edgy, jaded comments about it.
But thats in the Escapist's nature, judge before actually playing. I mean why would you play a game then judge it...
I didn't mean completely withhold any judgement, that would be impossible. Completely writing it off and making snarky, cynical comments about it is a little presumptuous when one hasn't played it.

It's like complaining about the end boss of Skyrim. I mean, you could, but not with any degree of accuracy.

Yeah, the last boss for Skyrim, is probably going to suck. XD

It's completely unrealistic as opposed to a single soldier winning a war.

I'm sure it'll be a fine game, but I won't be picking it up. Modern/'realistic' FPS games just don't do it for me, anymore. Still, I am surprised that this has been critically acclaimed - I was sure the press would pan it as a CoD clone or something along those lines.

Looks good, glad I took the plunge and bought the pre-order on Steam, now I also have a free copy of Metro 2033 to give away ad well.
I'll take it if you don't know anyone who wants it! :p

OT: I kinda like how it looks. I'm hoping that there'll be a demo of some form...

I'm still on the fence about this game, I might end up renting it for my ps3 before I decide to buy the pc copy.

Multi player looks interesting, the mix of vehicle and on foot combat reminds me of Battlefield but chances are it will only serve as a minor distraction till I can get my hands on Crysis 2 MP or Brink (SWEET ZOMBIE JESUS BRINK LOOKS AWESOME).

3. I have, and its 100% crap. EMP bomb? from the koreans? The same people who lack electricity, and can't design a nuclear bomb that can reach beyond their borders? And rely on weaponry donated by China? That they somehow took over with enough troops to take over America? Yet somehow by magic they can design and use an EMP bomb? Without the FBI, CIA on their ass? An attack on the US by Koreans would get bogged down on the mainland, due to strained supply lines, and the fact it has to pass near half the American naval forces.

5. Emotion? Oh yeah right because we all know everyone has an American citizenship, and America encompasses the earth.
3.You didn't look at the story. As you're looking at it from today's NK and not the stories NK. If you actually looked at the story, you would see how they were able to make one.

5.Are you implying that the game can't have emotions becuase its from the US? I guess if it was in the EU, no one would doubt it would have 'emotions'.

I've got to agree with the Homefront hate. I admit I don't know much about this game, but from the three-ish trailers I saw, it just seems like what would happen if Michael Bay created a darker and grittier Red Dawn after watching too much Glenn Beck.

3. And that jump was too much of a change within a short amount of time. Basically, magic.

5. I am saying that "emotion" based on locale is a flawed way to go about making a game. If the person isn't American, then they probably won't care. Emotion linked to location fails and for a very good reason.
3.Germany rose to power in ten years.

5.So if a mother is killed and the child has to watch it. You feel no emotion, becuase its not your location? Thats kind of sick. No offense. And hey, its not like our cultures, US to EU are that much different. Its not like if I went to France, I would feel like in a foreign world where nothing is the same.
