This is disgraceful, of course.

You guys have to realise that even if you don't want to "take it seriously" because "it's the Internet" (which is, by the way, a meaningless 4channer excuse for making other people's lives Hell), it would still be hard to sort through the nasty comments to find the genuine ones for a mod like this one.

If you put a lot of effort into a creative work, you want to be able to see both sides of the argument, rather than a whole bunch of destructive criticism. And that is what this Alien person has had to face is because of assumptions about her gender, sexuality, and because of the stigmas attached to those aspects of herself.

Granted, the people making these harsh comments are probably five years old, their opinions don't matter because they're ignorant, etc etc. But that's not enough to make it okay. It's not enough to make it even tolerable. And the fact that she's in poor health makes it even less acceptable behaviour.

The only mistake I see on the girl's side is from the practical standpoint. That is, she probably didn't make it clear that she was a girl. If she had, maybe it wouldn't have been so bad.

Or give us all her contact info and we'll blow up her mail box with mail talking about how this shit shouldnt affect her, because for every kid out there scared to face the reality of anatomy there are 20 more people who welcome it.

I'm pissed off more that the ridiculous comments got to her. AlienSlof has done more than just nude male modes, I've downloaded a lot of her work, and eventually learned the name, yet here we go with the homophobia and irrationality of how we see things. Apparently, certain body parts are evil and we must always censor them according to stupid social norms.

There is something we can do, and that is to give her words of encouragement. Clearly, words of discouragement took her away, so encouragement should bring her back. In theory.

it was said by the op that she has also done fallout 3 mods? i no longer have a copy of oblivion but i would be interested to see what kind of talent she had in fallout 3. (not because she's a girl)

i hope SOME of her fallout mods survived... do you know where i could find them?

That's crazy, I used anatomically correct skins for boths males and females in Morrowind, I found it added much more impact to NPCs like naked beserkers and followers of Dagoth Ur. I didn't want to see (plural of penis please) but when a fully naked nord with an axe attacked me it was much more frightening than one in just a loin cloth.

Yeah I know of the mods, I used to play a lot of modded oblivion. And no I didn't download any of hers, nor did I care that they existed. People are stupid, people complain because they can. Shit happens, shit happened. I moved on.

As for your "arguments", havoc:
Invoking Godwin's Law by saying that Hitler did something under the motto of something that has a similar name to something another person may or may not believe in as a way of saying that you opposition is a bad person doesn't work and my response was a demonstration of why that doesn't.

Also, Slof wasn't harassed by the "majority", only by an incredibly vocal minority.

The democratic system works by choosing what works for most people and keeping the opposition around for the next election where they get another chance to present their case.

The democratic system does NOT work by being louder then the rest and destroying or banning everything that you disagree with because public opinion NEVER changes and you are obviously right and doing everybody except the deviants a favor.

For example:

A group of people vote between pie and cake because it's too hard to order both at the same time for whatever reason. Cake wins. The group eats cake until enough people are tired of it so that it warrants ordering pie again.

A group of people are eating pie and cake. Somebody storms in with a megaphone and a gun and starts shouting that everybody should eat cake. The group is flabbergasted and afraid of the gun so they don't answer. The cake fanatic then murders everybody who was eating pie and leaves to go on a jihad against pie bakes.

One of the above examples is democratic, the other isn't.

I responded to an article at 3dbuzz sometime back over that issue. And it was a lesbian that got banned from the XBL online for continuing to announce through her profile that she was lesbian. MS booted her after multiple warnings. I gave a pretty thorough history and foundation for my comments over there in defense of MS (something I never do out of principle), and got attacked by a lesbian there for "ranting". Apparently putting a breadth of facts on the table is ranting when there's no answer to the material facts otherwise.. lol. She even went as far as to say I needed to die for my commentary. I'm rather used to that; but, Buzz wasn't and some people were agast at her response and mad at me apparently for being too correct.

Personally, I'm of the informed opinion that gay isn't a "lifestyle" it's a sexual perversion.
Porn and sexual perversity can come in all sort of twisted forms from foot and leg fetishes, to inserting schoolbusses in orafaces, to sex with animals, children.. Urinating and deficating on one another - consuming said same bodily excretions. People do to one another in extreme fetishes things that nazis used in concentration camps as torture for human beings they'd decided were decidedly less than human in the Darwinian scheme of things. Homosexuality is just one perversion among many in a sense. But they're unique in that they're largely parasites. They can't reproduce. It isn't a genetics issue, which was a lie for a while. So they have to recruite and they are militant in doing so.

One could have an interesting time studying homosexuality through history. It ends up that it existed in past cultures; but, a running theme is that it's "acceptance" has largely been an imposition by a ruling class suffering from the perversion. Nero was married to a woman and slept with men. When his wife noted he'd made an error, he kicked her to death for it. Then he put her dead corpse on display before the senate and attempted to gain sympathy votes from the senate over her death for his 'reconstruction' of rome project. This after he'd burned a section of rome to make way for his plans apparently. In grief over killing his wife, he pointed out a free man on the streets who reminded him of his wife and had him castrated on the spot, dressed in his wife's clothes and then treated him as his dead wife. Anyone who looked down on this was killed. And this is how Sodomy got acceptance in Rome.. not by nero's hand specifically but by emperors with immediate power over life and death and a fetish for male sphincters - lunatics with sexual fetishes and unchecked power. Typical really. Paul had done nothing wrong. But, because he noted that homosexuality was sin, The emperor was angered and murdered him. It's no surprise that nero tied Christians to stakes, covered them in oil and burned them alive as a means of lighting for the night games. This is what we're to believe is civilized and tolerant/advanced thinking. Psychotic dictators with sexual fetishes imposing their fetishes on the masses under penalty of death if they're crossed.

And this kindof lept to mind when I was attacked at buzz by the lesbian and told I needed to die.. Some things just don't change. Thankfully, she isn't an emperor with power over my life.

Especially someone that -good- at it. I speak as a man; I miss her work. Especially her stuff for Morrowind. Her goth shop is more or less legend, for the uninitiated, and was widely regarded as one of the greatest clothing and male mods of all time. Savages, just a bunch of filthy savages. A preface: I understand that there have been eleventy billion and one topics about homophobia here on the Escapist. However, this particular issue strikes me as being beyond the pale, and I feel it worthy of its own topic.

So, last night, AlienSlof deleted all of her Mods from her site and every public download site where they had been hosted. She says that the harassment has affected her already poor health and she will no longer take the abuse for what was once, to her, an enjoyable hobby upon which she spent her free time. And she is well within her rights to do so, as it is her work, her health and her life.

I, for one, am infuriated by this. It seems that the early-teen pocket-mining little-boy homophobe club has scored a victory in their crusade to ensure that they never have to endure the sight of an actual penis while they search for ever-more-unrealistic female nude Mods for their games. As collateral damage, the rest of us- you know, reasonable people who know we can just skip those things we find undesirable or objectionable- lose access to the works of a talented Modder, three of whose Mods I use in my current Oblivion setup.

I am at a lose for words. I just don't understand. Why don't they just not download her mods. Why do people have to attack anything that makes them uncomfortable rather than avoid it (this being one of the instances where avoidance would be an option). Chances are the people that did this can't even justify their actions (other than their own insecurities) which is what exasperates me the most. I don't understand why one side of the spectrum is not only accepted but desired while the other is so shunned and flamed. There are things wrong with humanity that can only be fixed by a few good raptures.

Raptures? Why what for god when we have perfectly good shotguns and frag grenades, or at the very least Molotovs.
