I've just read another preview of Resident Evil 5 and there is one thing that I cannot help but feel apprehensive and sceptical about and that is Sheeva.

The whole principle of going through the game with an A.I. partner fills me with fear for the following reasons:

1. Ashley. Nuff said.

2. The best parts of RESi 4 were the quiet, lonely moments of isolated calm where you knew something awful was about to happen Leon...

3. Any game I have played in which I have had to rely on an A.I. character who can die and cause you a game over has caused endless frustration, for example:

Dom in Gears 2: especially on insane, the thick bastard will cause you countless game over screens no matter how good you are.

Farah in Prince of Persia Sands of Time: The horrible elevator platform battle in which you literally have to sacrifice yourself and fight enemies off her as she gleefully runs around getting herself murdered.

Again... Ashley... Shudder...

Now the game could be a really great action game, but as far as being a scary one, I think we need need to find a new king of the Survival Horrors. Looks like its in your hands, Isaac.

Anyone else worried about this or had thier games ruined by bad A.I. partners in the past?

I had also worried about the AI in RE5, but I'n not too worried. But I have had my share of retated AI in games, Socom combined assault. My partners Bronco, and Simple do thier part: stay in cover, hold when I tell them to, kill enemys without too much of a hassle, but jester has something wrong with him were he just pisses me off like: runin into the enemy stronghold without any help, yellin for help when he does that, not staying in cover, being a retard, ect. The list is endless.

I almost smashed my PS 2 in half when I got to the Eva section of MGS 3.

But in some games the AI companions are genuinely useful but I can't think of any examples right now.

The AI in the next Resident Evil 5 is better than the AI in the demo but it's still poor according to testers and hands on reviews.

It's clear that if you want to fully enjoy this game you have to play co-op with someone whether it's a friend or an online player because this is what it's geared towards.

The elevator battle in Sands of Time...ugh you just brought back BAD memories.

The entirety of Dead Rising started to get on my nerves. Especially when the stupid civilians got grappled by a zombie. "Fraaaaank! Fraaaaaaank!"

Fuck I forgot about that... Dead Rising not only had horrible AI that refused to even try to dodge zombies, but it also had OTIS. GRRRRRRR

Oh and I also forgot Oblivion. Combat fell apart completely when you had friendlies nearby whose favorite combat method is to run right into your attacks.

At least with Resi 5 you can grab a friend and eliminate the crappy AI and replace it with crappy human intelligence :)

This is indeed great for people with live but I am generally antisocial when it comes to gaming and like to play survival horrors and shooters by myself... and split screen equals half the vistas!

As much as i love Gears Of War 2, the friendly A.I in that game was idiotic. Dom should have been programmed to make your recovery his top priority instead of running away.

The AI had a trick in that game, as long as they we're never on the follow command they did all right. You just always had to have them on the "Go Here!" command and they would actually shove zombies that were in their way.

Worst partner AI was in Sword of Mana for GBA - it was so bad that my AI partner got constantly stuck in the environment and had to be teleported back to my location (usually by sliding across the entire screen). I didn't finish the game because it was so frustrating.

Close runner-up is partner AI in World at War - allies run in front of me and block my shots, and I've NEVER seen them hit a single enemy.

In defense of RE5, I actually thought that Sheva's AI was quite good - she gave me ammo when I needed it, held her own in battle, and sprayed me with the green stuff when I'd stood too close to an exploding barrel (which I had accidentally shot).

AI companions are nothing more than the developers forcing gameplay (hah). With some it's romantic tension (usually notably ABSENT), with others it's forcing strategic puzzle solving (how DO you get the retarded crossbreeding of a monkey and a fart sack alive through this hallway full of auto-shoot guns?)

If the developers would just listen, just once, they'd hear the masses screaming. But nope; they're putting yet another horrible AI partner into RE.

...yay.

She can't hide which makes the section almost impossible on European Extreme. She eats all of your food. She moves slowly and sometimes doesn't move at all. And you're experience with her killing all the guards must have been lucky as whenever she set of the guards for me she refused to run and merely stood there being shot and missing everybody with her revolver.

Most of the times I failed that section was me using the M60 on Eva in a fit of rage, or slitting her throat open.

I would have posted quicker but I had to take a call from Otis telling me about someone safely barricaded somewhere, as zombies were literally eating my arse.

Yeah Sheeva seemed pretty smart in the RE5 demo, though I'll probably play through it splitscreen with my brother anyway. I preordered it yesterday.

Don't hang up on me like that, it''s rude. I don't care if your arm is in a zombie's mouth, you must wait till I finish my slow ass speech that's unreadable on a normal tv before you may continue.

I wish I had known that on my first playthrough... so many lives would have been saved lol

I really hope the sequel has no time limit and proper AI
