Although I'm sure there are quite a few gamers on this site who like sports, I'm also sure that there are quite a few more gamers who like, I don't know, anime for example. Yet we don't have dedicated sections for that either.
That's a good point, really. I should've asked why there's no dedicated anime forum, might've been more popular.

That is the point of off topic forum. The only reason Religion and Politics gets its own thing is due to the fact that people here think they can talk about those subjects which they can't as it just devolves into flamewars. This is also why it has its own section.
So all we have to do is flood the Off-topic Discussion with tonnes of sport related threads and be petulant while we're at it? ;)
Pretty much but if you and others do actually make some sports threads without being repetitive and spamming them and then ask the people in charge you might have a case but at the moment there is not enough interest in it or rather shown interest. You could also make a sports group if you want and there is not one there.

This is a gaming forum, so if you want to talk about sports, you go to off topic. Simple.
Yeh that

and i don't think sports have a very big following on the Escapist. I still rekon there should be a Anime/Manga/Comics Forums

Many already said it but this is a gaming site were the main topic is games and movies. We could discuss sports, just put it in the off topic part and if you want to discuss loads of sport the go to a sport site... I personally love to discuss sports, and sports games usually bring up a great deal of discussion.

Oh, I'm not petitioning for one. If there's no demand for one then I'm fine with that. It's just that the trifecta of "Off-topic Discussion", "Religion and Politics" and "Sports Talk" (or something along those lines) are usually regular parts of even specialised forums.

So it kind of raised my eyebrow not to see anything sports related at all on here.

Well you have to remember we are on a Gaming forum where I dare say a good few of the members would have had negative experiences in this particular subject.

i follow Football (english) American Football, UFC and Rugby Union so i think i woul benefit from a sports forum, but i dont think many people here watch sports so i doubt it would be worth it

Too competitive. There will be lots of flame wars. And there just isn't enough interest. If they where going to make a sports forum, then they'd have to consider topics that come up waaay more than sports, like anime, science, movies, books whatever.

I'd love to see a sports forum! Would have to be heavily moderated, but it'd be pretty sweet! I'd stick around a lot more if there was one.

Because there probably isn't enough sports threads kicking around here for their to be a sub forum dedicated solely to that.

I would like to see one considering that the threads I've made about sports have mostly been ignored. This is unsurprising considering the fact that gamers tend to not be sports fans.

We don't really do sub-forums here. The only ones we have either have vastly different rules/user-bases (Advice forum, Forum Games, R&P) or are dedicated to something that everyone here should be into (gaming).

I mean, we don't have Animé, Science, TV, Movies, Literature... why would we have one dedicated to sports?
Yes, I should have considered this a bit more carefully. But as I mentioned earlier, it's just the prevalence of dedicated sports sections on other forums that made me take notice.

Ha, true enough.

Purely a matter of demand. The off-topic section covers anything that doesn't have it's own section, and if there's a large and consistent number of threads of a specific topic being made within the off-topic, then maybe someone will deem it appropriate to give it it's own section.

Personally, couldn't care less. No interest in sports and I don't look at the forum sections anyways, only threads I look at are the ones in the "recent comments" feed that sound interesting.

because this is a videogame forum. Not to say people who play video games don't play sports, but the video game forums for video games. Asking for a sports forum is like asking for sushi at taco bell, not impossible, but probably not going to happen. This place works like this, we had video games, and we had off topic discussion. When something overloads the off topic discussion, Like advice used to, we make it into a sub forum. And we barely get any sports topics. Think about it this way, we don't have an anime subgroup, and that gets mentioned every day.

If we wanted to talk about sports we would, but there's barely any threads and I really don't think it's because there's no sports forum. I don't even want one.

So there seems to be a broad agreement that it's the lack of demand rather than a lack of an opportunity that prevents the introduction of a sports forum. Sounds reasonable enough.

It's still not too satisfying an answer for seemingly more popular topics, like anime.

I just see it as if there was a sports forum, there would have to be forums for other specific things. It all just gets shuffled into OT Discussion, which isn't a bad thing. You're still able to make threads about sports, so no harm no foul. Heh.

Personally, I don't really know or care enough about team sports to get involved in a forum. I've done a fair amount of solo sports like running and surfing and things, I guess maybe those lend themselves better to a gamer mentality because it's something you do and control on your own. I wasn't really exposed to team sports as a kid so I never got into it... seems a little late now.

Because this is a Video-Games forum, not a Sports one. That's what Off Topic is for.
End of discussion.

Honestly, we aren't into sport that much well some of us that is. I remember football related topics about why we like football or banning it and there were some of us who dislike it. Ok that just one sport but I don't think there are that many of us want to see sport in a seperate section (I mean you rarely see a sport related topic in the off-topic discussion).
