I dont know if there's really enough threads to justify a su-forum. You could say the same thing about other subjects, like cooking.
Yes, but what if we got this backwards? Maybe there are not enough threads about it, because there's no proper place to put them?

Creating a thread about say Liverpool in the Off-topic section does feel sorta out of place, after all.
There's apparently been a thread about frequency of bathroom-usage, but there's no Bowel Movements sub-forum. If people want to talk about it, and can't find the place for it (or are too lazy to try) they'll stick it in Off-topic.

I actually started a thread asking whether Good Hitting beats Good Pitching in baseball. The thread died before it took one breath. I decided from then on that sports threads just don't belong here. I can't deal with that loss again! T___T

*ahem*

But yeah. There should be more. It would add a little variety to the discussions.
Pitching all the way. I think a good pitcher can lead an entire team.

OT- I think the reason why sports are not talked about isn't because there is no interest but more because every time it comes up it gets shunned. Maybe if there was a place to discuss it people would come out of the wood work. The reason why I come to this site is because the conversations are typically pleasant. Just because I play video games doesn't mean I can't form an opinion on anything else.

SO in that regard: Vancouver can suck it, Let's go Hawks!!

It has occurred to me that the Escapist doesn't have a sub-forum dedicated to sports. So I was wondering how this could be; It's usually a topic that garners a great deal of attention and easily lends itself to all kinds of discussions. Especially if you consider the Escapist's diverse user base.

Is it because gamers have no demand for anything sport related? I'm almost inclined to believe so, seeing how there are barely any threads about sport at all. Or is it simply because we lack a proper venue to facilitate these kinds of threads?

What do you think, my fellow Escapists?
Aside from what everyone else has mentioned, gamers as a general rule tend to dislike sports, because both computer games and sports occupy the same "leisure space" in people's lives. It's very difficult to be heavily into both (although there are a minority who manage). It's basically the same reason why you also don't see too many really, really good musicians who are also heavily into sports. Music and computer games both tend to be leisure activities that people are drawn to specifically because they don't fit in to the sporting culture.

The forums get created to meet a demand. Tons of threads asking for advice? Start an advice forum. Flame wars getting started everyday over political and religious debates? Start a forum for that. It keeps it cleaner, you have a rough idea of what kind of threads you see depending on what forum you browse. I've seen... No sports topics, that I can recall. The closest Escapist comes is things like "Do you do martial arts". There's a lot more film, animation, literature (and a lot of others really) threads than sports threads.

Because Sports threads aren't common enough to get their own forum and aren't controversial enough to be moved to a separate forum either. So for now, they can remain in the Off-Topic forum.

But... but that's practically my job here! Besides, we are on Off-topic as we speak... and you know what that means ;)
Perhaps I was a bit too defensive. It was the first thread I started, after all. And everyone would just get in and post "It's a gamers forum, durr hurr!" and bugger right off. Like I didn't get the memo the first three times. That's what I call quality discussion.

Anyhow. I probably should have asked for an anime forum. Wonder how that would have been received.

Yes, it would be the only one, all the other sub-forums have big demand, different moderation and a totally different atmosphere :)
Oh well, I shall just accept it as it is.
Anime has the demand, but lacks the need for separate mood and moderation...
Maybe a "triviality and media" section could cover all that, but of course that would just be an off-shoot of Off-topic =/ a media sub-forum could work kinda like forum game rules with Off-topic discussion style... discussion... Maybe :p

Nah, we don't need that. This is a gaming site for the most part, if you wanna discuss sports, there's many other forums you can visit. It's kinda like the same reason we don't have a sub-forum for MLP or cooking.
