Going back to when it was good and keeping all the good original pokemon aswell as some newer ones. And also making it twice aslong as going to new regions.

May I just say that I cannot freaking WAIT to try out triple battles in B/W? I think the series needs more multi battles in general, so I was pretty excited to see that.

Also (and this may be a bit much,) what if the game let you choose your rival? You could have a handful of recurring characters to choose from, and based on which one you choose, you can gain effort points in different categories.

Win me back? I wasn't under the impression it had chased me away :)

That may change after Gen 5 but I'll decide when I've played it for myself.

I'm still into the games a shitload, but I'll answer anyways.

A side game RTS thing where it's squad tactics using your pokemon. Or the ability to send your pokemon against each other.

This one is way out there and will probably never happen, but I've always thought the pokemon setting would make a great mmorpg. Probably via pc, it would combine all the regions with various pokemon wandering around (random encounters to gain xp) each player would use a team, with nearly infinite different combinations. you could join different factions like team rocket or create your own gym with your friends (like a guild). Instead of trying to get new armor or weapons, the game would center on catching the rarest pokemon. plus you could appeal to a variety of ages, just look at how popular a site like neopets has become doing a simplified version of the same Idea.

The main hurdle would be balancing all the pokemon so that there are no unbeatable combos, but then thats something you can tweak over time in an online game.

Whether you love the current iterations of the Pokemon games or you hate them, you have to agree that the series? basic formula has gotten stale. While the new games are enjoyable, the series is not aging as gracefully as it could.
No, actually, I don't have to agree that. Every generation adds new twists to the standard theme, because it works. If it breaks too much from the game it ceases to be the main Pokemon series.

Hint: The spinoff games are there for a reason. Maybe you should actually give them a try?

I don't think the gameplay is getting stale. The concept has stayed the same, in the sense that you still battle with Pokemon against rival trainers, Gym Leaders, and eventually the Elite 4, but every aspect of the gameplay itself has changed drastically over the past few years. Claiming that the gameplay is stale is a bit like claiming Street Fighter IV is stale because you fight one-on-one in it, just like you do in Street Fighter II. It looks that way on the surface, but if you look closer, the argument falls apart.

There are certain mechanics that have begun to wear out their welcome, though. Specifically, the fact that HM moves have to share space with regular moves. I cannot stress how irritating it is to have to waste a spot on my team on a generic, all-purpose HM slave. What we need is a choice; when you boot up an HM, your Pokemon learns the move, but you get to choose whether or not it learns to use that move in battle. Like, Rock Climb? Strength? Cut? No. Those need to be overworld abilities only. Surf and Fly? Those are actually useful enough in combat that I could justify giving up the move slot.

I really, really like the idea of more challenging gyms based on strategy type rather than pokemon type. Also, how's about this: some kind of advanced Elite-Four-like thing where every opponent is level 100. This means incredible dedication (or an action replay for 999 rare candies) is needed to equal their level of power, and you can't just power-level for two weeks and then breeze through them all at 20 levels higher than their MVP. At the same time, make the opponents REALLY FUCKING HARD. Make a completely entry-hazards-based team or a Toxic-based stall team, and for butt's sake have them all have decent natures and EV spreads. Have new and ludicrously original movesets, like a phazing Aerodactyl with Rest, Sleep Talk, Roar and Whirlwind to get neutral priority for Roar and Whirlwind, sending them away before they can attack since Aerodactyl is so fast (I saw that Aero set on a YouTube video, though I don't remember whose). A really ridiculous kind of challenge is what I feel like the series needs (even if it's just at secret-boss status like the Omega Weapon in Final Fantasy X), because the story mode is still the story mode of a kids' game. It's just not that hard.

Get rid of the friend code only battles over wi-fi. let me battle random people over wi-fi without goin out and hunting random people down for there friend code.

Edit: oh and how about a game where i join team (Insert random team from Any pokemon game) at least it will change up the story abit

make a song for every 150 pokemon because if you can do that and sing that song and not think how lame that name is then your good.

I would say that it's impossible for them to "win me back" because I haven't left. I'm not buying the new one, though.

Don't hear what I'm not saying; I love Pokemon, but Soulsilver is the perfect Pokemon game. It's everything I've ever wanted in a Pokemon game, plus quite a few more things. I could not be any happier with where Pokemon has gone than I am right now. I wish I was holding that game in my hands right now, but money is tight... anyhoo, like OP said a break from the same tradition would be the only way to go. It sounds like that's what is happening in White and Black already, but they still have themed gyms and gym leaders that function like bosses and so on.

The idea of taking Pokemon too seriously is something to avoid like the plague; that's the only thing I could imagine that could potentially halt the Pokemon juggernaut forever. As soon as you bring slavery issues into it, people won't want to play it. No matter what you do with the Pokemon at that point will be a political thing rather than a fun thing.

This. Are you seriously telling me that a giant BIRD pokemon needs to be taught how to fly?!
OT: Maybe more open world, so you can go to gyms in whatever order you want, and they change accordingly. But make them really hard.

I think it's too late for me, in the same way I'm not going to crack out my Crazy Bones either. There was definitely a golden era of Pokemon for me, but I just outgrew it. There is no 'us' Pokemon.
