I ended up finding my old SNES Power Rangers game which I know I had beaten when I was 5. I tried playing it today (I'm 19 now) and I only just got through 3 levels.
Anyway, question is... Have you ever rediscovered an old game that you played to death as a kid and totally mastered... Only to pick it up now and fail more than anything?

Yes! I indeed have. Glover. I played it and mastered it as a kid, and I picked it up a couple days ago and killed myself 29 times, then put it down and went outside.

Im just not that old, I've only been gaming for 7 years. Which is just not long enough to have played any of the obnoxiouse platformers, in fact my first games were Halo: CE and Splinter Cell, so I can do both of those now just fine.
Oh wow. I've been gaming for about 15 years, myself.
I was a hyperactive kid and Super Mario Bros. used to shut me up pretty easily.

Weird, the thought occurred to me to make this same thread earlier today.

Anyways, I got a ROM for Sonic 2 on my computer and it's so freaking hard. Even with a controller, I can't get nearly as far as I should have been able to. Maybe it's because I've been out of the platformer mindset for a decade I'm not sure

Croc, for the love of god Croc.
Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped.

I know I lost my gifted childness sometime during secondary school but COME ON. It's only Crash 3!

I did the exact same thing a week or 2 ago! Though I went from getting to world 3 years ago to not even being able to beat level 2...

I'm generally better now then I was back then.

For instance when playing a city sim (pharoh ceaser 3 cleopatra) I would always put all my resources into my army long before my city could support it. As such I would always have problems paying off loans and get invaded by foreign kings.

Funny thing is, while my city may have been a shit hole to live in (often had to use my military to curb upriseings, I could kick anyone with my army.

Now I can actually win those games.

Not for me. I almost always turn out better than I was. It just takes 10 or 15 minutes to get my momentum back.

Old school Prince of Persia, and DOOM (I've been spoiled by games where you can, you know...jump...). Also, I realised that, as I've grown up, I've completely lost the childish wonderment that is adventure-game logic. oO Yeah, apparently I'm a lot less creative than I used to be.

Nope never. If I had trouble with it as a kid I have trouble with it today. Plus all I mainly play Call of Duty. I started playing at age 9 on the very first one in 2003(although the game came out in 2002(not a bright idea for my parents but oh well what can you do. Can't live in the past)). I still love the game today and don't have any problems with it (better not!)

Umm, Serious Sam. I beat that game on Serious when I was like 14 years old. Now I have to play on Normal to have a chance.

Sonic 3, I could do the bonus checkerboard mini game with ease, but when I played it on Sega Ultimate Genesis Collection I couldn't even last 20 blue balls.

Also...

Hah, looks like I'm still one step ahead.
I've always wanted to get a controller for the few ROM's that I've obtained. Playing Mario/Sonic without one is terrible.

It was like that for me with Tetris... Then after picking it up again and then playing a few games of it I became better than I ever was before!

Yeah man, I actually managed to find drivers for a PS3 controller on my mac, but it's not the same because the buttons are a lot looser on the dualshock 3 it's hard to explain but it doesn't feel the same.
