You know what, theres alot of people saying this is a stupid idea, but I actually think it would be a fantastic one. I personally prefer the original Warhammer to 40k, but really things could only be gained if he did a 40k film. Massive interest in the property, new Warhammer products coming all around, many more people looking into the lore and picking up the table top games.

Warhammer has never had a need for specific character interaction, and the less of that Bay does the better. Every character in the universe is essentially a huge xenophobic redneck military man, just with a different skin color. Simply having huge action setpieces would work for a Warhammer 40K film.

Only problem is I dont think the art style would translate. Normal humans are too tiny to portray space marines without looking wierd. Their suits are absolutly massive, Orcs would be really hard to do, and Chaos maybe even harder.

Irregardless though, Michael Bay would be the perfect director for a Warhammer 40K film. He doesnt understand good story telling or characters, but he can direct the hell out of an action scene. Thats what 40K needs

You don't.
Because he never would.
And it would be terrible anyway.

At very best you would get a modernized loose adaptation set in modern day so he could shove explosions and the military into every shot and desecrate whatever plot that game has. (Generalizations about Michael Bay, I have no knowledge of Warhammer)

Don't let that man ANYWHERE near my precious 40K universe!
He would clearly ruin it.

Throw in Jason Statham as an Eversor Temple Assassin and you got yourself the greatest movie ever made.

Holy shit that's the best idea ever.

1. Bay has a hard-on for American G.I.s, not military in general.
2. The guy couldn't stay true to the source material to save his life.
3. He'd work in a retarded romance plot.

These are the reasons why I wouldn't want Mr Bay anywhere near my beloved W40k franchise.
Aside from that...

4. W40k doesn't really work in a movie setting - too much lore to explain within the given time frame. (I'd gladly take a well-paced TV show or cartoon, though, preferably by the guys who made the 'Spawn' animated series for HBO.)

As much as I hate to admit it, Michael Bay must be doing something right. Because after at least 12 craptacular movies, people still think he's a director.

At any rate a 40K movie would fail because their would be no way to please even their own core fanbase.
Having the Orks slaughter a few things nonsensically might help. Also Bay seems like a poor choice. Snyder maybe?

Check my post above yours. A 90 minute hyperactive überaction movie about an Eversor Assassin could actually work.

I get that Michael Bay gets a lot of flak for his "Military fetish", shoving overly manly Soldiers and military Hardware into his movies whenever he can.

He might not be the most sofisticated director of our time, but his Blockbusters sell - Big time.
Even if the Critics growl and squirm when he takes a perfectly good IP like Transformers and bends it as much as he can to show the things he loves the most - his audience( and the box office) is behind his style.

Now why don't we give him something that plays to his strenghts AND satisfies the Geeks ? Something like Warhammer 40k ?

I believe it would be a match made in heaven : A universe full of testosterone filled Ubersoldiers, grand effects and epic battles with epic warmachines on epic stages.

THQs Dawn of War series and the upcoming release of Spacemarine worked the ground for an interest in the Universe among gamers and newcomers to the series would not need to know much more then "There is only war" to enjoy a 120 minute effect fest about a band of valiant Imperial Guards fighting with heroic Space Marines against Chaos / Orks / Tyranids or whatever.

We have the technology, we have the audience - so how do we get somebody like Bay to finally DO it ?
Problem: He chose to make a Transformer's movie about a boy with girl troubles and about the AMERICAN MILITARY.

Giant fucking militaristic robots were at his disposal. Apparently he has a bias on what gets the special military cuts for his movies; one that doesn't involve giant space mechs.

And what are the Space Marines?
Yeah, you bet Michael Bay would totally have the marines come from the far past and beat their ass.

Ok apparently I have to be the odd one out here.

If a live-action Warhammer 40k movie is being made, I want Bay to be at the healm.

Everyone here denies it because they think that the Transformers movies raped their childhood and they jumped in the hate bandwagon, but Bay does mindless action 'splosion flicks.

Sure, fanboys can try to deny it, but Warhammer 40k is literally nothing but blood and 'splosions. It's supposed to be the most over the top mindless sci fi action ever created.

If you've never heard of Warhammer 40k in your life, and you were told about an IP about marines in giant space armor fighting aliens and space orks with chainsaws and explosions, the FIRST thing you would think it was was a Michael Bay movie. Face it, this would be the perfect IP for Bay to play in.

You're forgetting one very important thing. His military humping is just one part of why he sucks. The other part is that he cannot direct. At all. Every single good directorial decision one could make, he does the opposit.e

DONT LET HIM NEAR IT! The 40k background is actually a lot deeper and more messed up that he can effectively bring to the screen. He would spend all his time flashing space marines running around and shooting and never even touch deeper into the lore. If you want some pointless action movie get him to direct a Gears of war movie(I like the games, but they aren't exactly complex), keep him away from my interesting distopian vision.

Seriously try to imagine Bay approaching the idea of Slaneesh with anything approaching depth.

Edit: To those just saying its explosion and action I challenge you to read any book about an inquisitor or maybe Commissar Cain. Theres a lot more to the 40k universe than big guys hitting aliens in the face.

Further Edit: and he'd want to try to stick to a PG13 rating to get more people, To HELL with that idea.

Anyone else think Neveldine/Taylor would be perfect for this. Nothing but hardcore R rated action, I think they could do it. Better than Bay at least, I have a hard time believing he would be able to get the grity feeling right.

You know what would make for a FANTASTIC use of the license? Give it to Genndy Tartakovsky, the guy who did Samurai Jack and Clone Wars.

Let that sink in for a bit....

Isn't the whole point of Warhammer 40K's Space Marines to be a thinly veiled tongue-in-cheek parody of the modern American military in a big brother type society?
