Usually I'll just go with "hello", or "yeah" if I can see who's calling and don't care about appearing impolite.
If I'm in a stupid mood, I'll put on a voice and pretend to be someone completely different. A habit I sadly inherited from my dad, who would regularly answer the phone with "hello, this is Buckingham Palace" or "good afternoon, Glasgow police station" despite obviously being nowhere near either London or Glasgow. And now, the act of writing about it has made me think about just how bloody stupid that is.
