"Hello, this is the Somme public baths. No running shouting or piddling in the shallow end."
Or maybe just hello, or ahoyhoy, if I feel like it.

Hello, like any normal member of the English speaking world...

It's a word made for the sole purpose of greeting people, it seems a shame to waste it... :p

I always answer the phone the same as you since I discovered the word 'hello' was invented after the telephone, when people realised that there was no formal way of answering. Following in the footsteps of the great Montgomery Burns. Ahoy ahoy. Now all I need is a ship.

"Hullo?" - During the day
"Nnnnuh?!" - Any time of the night, then again, that's all I say on the phone late at night.

I'm actually inspired to be a little more creative thanks to this thread.

Now if only someone would call me -_-'

A normal "Hello" to anyone.
If it's a close friend or family then after they say hello or hi back, I'll say hello again and it will continue until they decide to tell me why they called.

I just go "ugh." So far, no one knows how to respond to that. I'll be sticking with it until they figure out a proper response.

The boring way.

Good Afternoon/Good Morning .

Or if I'm on the mobile

Or if I'm at home I answer with the last 6 digits of my phone number.

Depending on who it is I'll usually answer either "Yo." or "What?!?"

At work I answer "Electronics, Ryan speaking." Only person in the entire freaking store who gives thier name. Makes things so much easier wether it's a coworker or a customer on the other end.

I usually don't answer the phone, even if I'm stood right next to it.

If, on those rare occasions I do, I say hello............when I really mean fuck off.

Depends on who's calling. If it's a family member, I say, Hi, but if it's a friend, I'll say, hey, or what's up.

With friends and family I usually answer "hey" or "hi". If I dont know the number its usually the standard "hello" and if at work I have to say my whole call centre piece...I get penalised if I dont.

Generally I answer with "hello?", "Yello?", or "Hey."

On occasion I've also answered with "hola" or my favorite, "House of the Lords, Jesus speaking."
