I will generally offer food, or a blanket. Things like that. Though once i got food thrown at me by a drunk that had asked for food x.x' apparently he only wished for money, and knew if he asked for food most will give money.
Thats true, and I am back peddling but I came off as kind of a dick. Maybe I should take a walk in the shoes of some one who has lost everything and basically gives up. But from my mind I wouldn't be begging on the streets, I would be picking up scrap metal or going through trash for recyclable material to sell. Making a sign and waving it in my face is lazy and shows no intuitive for the matter at hand. Thats my view on the matter anyway, sorry for coming off as a dick.Sexual Harassment Panda said:That's not entirely pertinent. The Lost Big Boss said:I'm not begging for money on the fucking street corner.Sexual Harassment Panda said:And that's definitly not what you were going to spend your money on?The Lost Big Boss said:Give them my money so they can get some booze, ya not going to happen.
I already pay for them when the government takes a chunk from pay check.
People like to think that they wouldn't end up the same way as these people, given the same circumstances. It just occurs to me, that maybe I would be unemployable if I had spent my formative years being abused, violently or sexually...whatever...I just think it may have affected my ability to concentrate in maths class. Hell, I come from a nice background and I still squandered my eduaction with a generally indifferent disposition.
I don't think reasons for being homeless, or what they spend any money given to them on, is really anyones business. Give or don't give, either is cool with me, let's just not be judgemental.
But I have some issues with you.Harrowdown said:Well, aren't you lovely. The Lost Big Boss said:I'm not begging for money on the fucking street corner.Sexual Harassment Panda said:And that's definitly not what you were going to spend your money on?The Lost Big Boss said:Give them my money so they can get some booze, ya not going to happen.

First of all, it's extremely arrogant of you to assume the homeless are all alcoholics. I wouldn't begrudge anyone a drink anyway, homeowner or not.
Second of all, nothing out of your paycheck goes to individual people on the street. Donating to a shelter or giving change to someone is a voluntary act of charity.
Thirdly, I checked your profile, and you're just a kid. You probably have a paper round or some shit, and you certainly don't pay tax. Don't even dare to sit there, in front of the computer that your parents probably bought for you, espousing that bullshit as if you actually deserve anything more than these people. Not everyone is as priviledged or as lucky as you, and you *are* priviledged and lucky.
The whole drug money thing is really stereotypical. Drugs and Alcohol is the 4th leading cause of homelessness, they aren't all just looking to get their fix.Hiphophippo said:In the past I've bought them lunch. Being homeless is terrible, but I won't abide by people using my generosity to pay for their habit. That's how you tell how serious they are. If they turn down lunch, they just want drug money. If they do however take you up on it, it's usually a decent time. I like listening to people's stories.
That may be, but it doesn't really make what I said any less relevant. Chances are, if a homeless person turns down me buying them lunch, then they probably didn't need it in the first place.SplattererRoss said:The whole drug money thing is really stereotypical. I would have done that as well. Excellently acted, dear sir.Hiphophippo said:I saw a man one time with a sign that read "Need money for beer and pot" I gave him five bucks. Not that I really support either of those two things, but I really appreciated his honesty.
Damn ninja's......Ziadaine said:Homeless and beggars are a completely different thing. I dont give money to beggars, they have to earn it, just like I had to.
