as long as it's not that "dull" pain that never goes away then it's alright. If it's a "sharp" pain then you can ignore it

I swear constantly in my head. I dunno why but it does actually help. I went to the dentists once and had a filling done without anaesthetic. I just thought of a stream of swear words while he was drilling, and it helped distract me from it.
Shame it wouldn't be as practical out loud..
It's usually much funnier when done out loud though XD

Me, I have one method for ignoring pain, and it hasn't failed me yet

Not when there are young kids and angry mothers around. Those broads will beat you with their handbags if you teach Timmy a new bad word.
Makes me scared to walk the streets...

If it's too much for me to just shrug it off (basically anything where the skin isn't broken) I jab my nails in a circle around the wound.

If I'm in enough pain to vocally swear, I'm typically in too much pain to notice who is around me. I haven't been hit yet, though I have gotten some truely hilarious looks.

I've never had a hilarious look... Once back when I was in school I hurt my hand pretty bad while fumbling a basketball (It bent my fingers way back). I swore really loud and almost got detention for it. Although the teacher did have a grudge against me..

Anyways! The point is I try not to cuss near small children. They'll learn it all from bad cartoons and their parents anyway when their a year older. (hehe..)

normal pain i can pretty much ignore, i tore my left knee to shreds years ago playing basketball, so thats a pretty constant pain.

Only 2 types of pain that are near impossible to ignore for me are headaches/migraines, and kidney stones.

Had several kidney stones and i handle the pain well, passed all of them wo going to the hospital. but the last one was so painful that i nearly passed out hyperventalating and that lasted a good few hours that level of pain, basically had to calm my breathing down and meditate to push it back as best i could and rather not helpful to be honest, grin and bear it when all else fails.

I watch zero punctuation. No joke. It has a calming effect on me for some (ironic) reason. Also, it's funny, and as we all know laughter is the best medicine.

If I am dealing with temporary pain, I run through a sort of inner dialogue with myself.
"Owowowowoweee!!"
"What, you gonnna just fall down and cry? Suck it up, pansy!"
"But it hurts!"
"My God, get a grip. Do you mean to tell me that you don't have the physical and mental fortitude to get through this little 'owie' you got here?"
"I... guess not..."
"That's right! Now grow a pair and quit being a woman about this. Move it! Move your useless ass!"
And so on.

It probably isn't healthy to give myself a mental tongue lashing every time I need to "tough it out", but what the heck, it works.

I either focus on the pain or ignore it.
Or if I'm sparring/ fighting channeling it into unstoppable rage.
Or I just put a bandaid on it if it's a cut. IT REALLY DOES WORK. It's probably a placebo effect, though.

Depends on if its physical or emotional pain. For physical I usually grit my teeth and swear in my head. xD But I've never been severely in pain before. So I'm lucky for now. Emotional is another story though.

Because you're new here, I'll cut you some slack, but when you reference someone else's work and don't give them credit, that's called 'Plagarism'... and you shouldn't do it. Give Three Days Grace the recognition that they deserve, rather than assuming that everyone will automatically know who you were quoting. (I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and guess that you wouldn't be so foolish as to try to pass that off as something you came up with yourself.)

OT: Pain is mitigated by previous experience. My pain threshold has always been high, because I've always participated in contact sports, but when it does start distracting me, I try to make a concerted effort to focus on my goals at the time, and not allow myself to have my attention pulled away by the negative stimuli.

The human mind is a brilliant machine; if you learn how yours works, you can overcome some substantial obstacles.

Grit my teeth, drop a few F-bombs, take a couple Aleve if it's really beyond the impossible.
