No over population because people would have moved to Mars or the Moon(hmm...that doesn't happen often). We also have fusion generators and maybe eternal life for the rich. Diabetes is cured thanks to stem cells/cloning.

Barren and completely void of human life. Yeah, I'm a pessimist.

World? What world? We would have eithr bombed each other to death, or the big corporations bought out the government. Okay maybe not the last option, but I want 2050 to be cyberpunk-ish.
^AGREED ABOUT THE CYBERPUNK...and i want an asian president...who speaks like Confucius...and is very old..and knows kung fu...idk i think id listen to him..even if he isnt really saying anything

It'll be mostly the same. The only way anything will change is if some lunatic fires off a nuke.

Sadly there will be no life on this earth by that time almost certainly.

The reason is pretty simple, we have already passed the point of no return and the only possible solution at this point is to colonize other planets.

We have not made the progress needed to do so within the time needed though (next 20-30 years) as we have not even accomplished the first step, let alone the next two.

We would need to have a fully functioning space station in orbit already and a moon base as well by this point to really have any chance of survival.

As far as people on this planet. If 95% of all human life was wiped out today instantly with no adverse affects to the rest of the planet there is still a high chance the remaining humans would consider it an act of aggression and destroy the planet in retaliation. There might at least be some chance at that point of life continuing though.

It's quite likely if all human life simply went poof the planet would continue to heat up over the next couple hundred years until we had a constant cloud layer in effect (Which would continue to increase the temperature) and eventually no life would be able to survive on this planet. That would take more then 50 years to happen, but that is only because all human life was already gone.

I think we have about 10-15 years before things really start to go down hill big time. Until then we should still be able to stick our heads in the sand. By about 2025 or so the resources on this planet will be gone and the number of countries with biological, chemical weapons and nukes will be much larger (and thats saying no new weapons are invented). Even if we discovered a new massive power source tomorrow it would not help much. Anarchy is no longer a tool that can be used to alter governments as it is too dangers with the tools humans have at this point.

So basically the human race and for that matter the entire planet is doomed. In less then 40 years there will probably be no life on this planet or the planet will be almost completely barren and heating up rapidly. Humans have already destroys themselves and the planet that gave birth to them, we are just waiting for our effects of our actions to be seen.
well well well, aren't we little mister/miss sunshine

I played the hyrdophobia trial demo today just to see if I liked the game. For those of who don't know, the game is set in 2051 and the planet is suffering from over population and low resources. It got me thinking, what will the world be like by 2050? Will it be that bad?

What do you think?
It would be destroyed in 2012....

But in all seriousness Saudi Arabia would turn hostile after its oil supplies are gone bring the whole Middle East against the West, this causes trade with nations like China to suffer as the oil has ran out causing them to also turn hostile as they have no need to be friends and want to take us down.

ITS GUNNA SUUUUUUCK!!!!!

It will be very much like today, but reality-TV will give you a large selection of gladiatoral shows where people really die (gruesomely) for your entertainment.

Oh, and Google owns the moon. They even got a huge ad space up there.

And at that time, the next time of the "day of the apocalypse" will be 2052. (2012's apocalypse was a disapointingly average year, nothing big happened)

Seriously though, fusion power should be what we are focusing on in terms of a new energy source, not windmills until they come out yer bum. Once we get fusion power, anything that requires large amounts of energy would be feasible to create.
The plans to have a fully functional, large scale fusion power plant are already underway and its hoped to be finished in the next 30 years. After that it'll just get easier and easier.

We already have fusion plants that can create temperatures of several millions of degrees, just for a short amount of time.

I think the future is quite exciting, and that the world is going to change A LOT in the next 30-40 years. Genetic and organic engineering will change the way we look not only at the world we live in but also ourselves. Couple that with the exponential advancement of communication as well as material sciences and the possibilities seem endless.

Google Video "Visions of The Future" if interested about emerging technologies and the huge effects they are going to have on society in the next decades.

In my view, we'll have a world where genetic/biochemical engineering will open up possibilities such as enhanced brain functions, health, and natural capabilities(strength, endurance, vision, etc); in addition, we are likely going to be inherently linked to the web and objects around us as computing and network technologies expand from being exclusive to computers to being integrated into all products.

Don't forget people, we've all got to get through 2012 alive first before we even consider what will happen in 2050 lol.

I've read through everything that is said, and to be honest I'm surprised that no-one has thought that we still have a chance to turn things around.

Someone mentioned this earlier, but for some strange reason we've always been obsessed with our own destruction, either by our own hand or by something else. And in some ways, I don't see it as a bad thing entirely because of the simple fact that it guides us (well, the few of us with some common sense) away from harming ourselves or others.

My personal opinion of what things will be like in 2050? I think it'll be better in many or all respects, hopefully we'll have put an end to most disease as we'll understand that mind rules over matter. We'll be living in a positive utopian world, as we'll also know that not only are we made of the same thing physically, we are all 'one' in a spiritual sense.

The next 5 - 10 years are going to be the most crucial ones, and even if we don't pass them unharmed, I highly doubt it'll be the end of humanity and 'all' life on this planet. I reckon there will be pockets of people in remote places around the world, who'd have learned not to make the same mistakes we and our ancestors made.

But still though, the future isn't set in stone, it's constantly changing and it'll be written by our species as a whole, not solely by the Powers That Be (a.k.a. the oil barons, political parties, or religious leaders). The little man who goes about his daily life will have more say than the politicians over what happens.

'We' the people will have the final say.

slightly more eco friendly, and we might be back on the moon, and there might be a new iphone, that is all.

To me the human race has two options:

1. Kill ourselves.
2. Space travel.

Yep that's it. Humans need more resources, we need distance, and most of all we need the unknown or we will stagnate.

I imagine we will be playing Half Life Episode 3 And Duke Nukem Forever by then.

... Well at least some of us... The ones with connections to the underground resistance of gamers who defies The Power and refuses to stop playing the, by then, illegal videogames.

They may take our freedom, but they will never take away our VIDEOGAMES!

2050?

If bioware is correct- in the future we will find prothean ruins on mars and develop mass effect travel.

So we're not that screwed.

What a very depressing hypothetical future... I hope if this does come true, we'll have something to make up for it... like talking microwaves!

In the small chance that we don't all blow each other to hell with nuclear bombs, i imagine it...would most likely be very similiar to the world we live in now, except maybe with a few more technological enhancements and cures. Other then that, i doubt little would change.

we get to have moon colonies and before that China and the US duke it out over oil until we either run out or we get a new power supply.
