How do you like this new trend of releasing HD versions of old games?

Some people seem to like it and others hate it.

I wasn't too keen on it until Halo Anniversary. Now I think it's pretty great. It takes old games and makes them accessible.

I'd really love to see Halo 2 Anniversary.

I don't see the big deal but I have no problem with the trend. If game developers want to kick out HD versions to gain new fans or get a double dip out of old fans, they can have at it.

Personally, if I wanted to play it, I'd have played it back then. If I did play it, I'm not going to play it again. Out of all these HD releases, the only one that has me remotely curious is Okami and that's because it came in the PS2 life so late that I never got the chance to play it.

I love some of the HD remakes or even the collections. It's a fun way to play the games you love again. I current have:
- Devil May Cry
- RE 4
- Ico and Shadows.
- Slycooper
- Getting Okami very soon.

I am okay with it, but I do wish to see them go further with things. The biggest disappointment about Halo Anniversary was that it played exactly the same as Halo 1. When I already have that. I would have loved to see how implementing new material from the later games would affect the gameplay in Halo 1. Brutes making you rethink certain areas, Drones fighting in close quarters on levels like Truth and Reconciliation. Armor abilities.

I'm really hoping they do something like that for Halo 2.

I like it when they're actually HD, and not crappy ports.

You know, like SH 'Collection'...
Which only had SH2/3.

They're a way for gamers to experience games which they may have missed out on previously.
As long as they're done well (Silent Hill collection *shakes fist*).

I love it. Sly HD is a collection of 3 amazing games (which I'd never played before) remastered to look almost current gen. I'm having a blast with it. Jak and Daxter, while not being as good a remastering, is still awesome, and I'm having a lot of fun with Budokai 3 HD. No complaints from me!

Uh. Okay. So first, the brutes didn't fight on the frontlines so often back then. Their appearance on Reach was deliberately limited to service as shock troops. And the armour abilities were experimental for Spartan IIIs, and it was only in Halo 4 that the abilities were made usable by Spartan IVs. You COULD edit the gameplay, but then you'd have to rewrite the entire series.

Alt universe it. Halo's story is so well known that we all know why they weren't in those levels, but it would be cool to see all that stuff in the game. Maybe as a newgame+ or something.

Or include some bonus missions from that era. Like a little pack of Halo: Combat Evolved period skirmishes. And they could do the same for Reach. Weirdly enough I actually want to see these insurgents everyone was so convinced they were going out to fight when they met the Covenant.

Oh I forgot to include my opinion on the topic. I like the idea, however I don't think they should cost full-price. £40 for Halo: Anniversary. Not happening. No. This is not a new game. Don't charge it at new-game prices.

I think HD remakes are a great idea. I have two HD collections: The Sly Collection, and the ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection. I bought them both without a second thought, and guess what? I owned those games on my PS2. Generally, this was a great excuse to replay them and my old discs were getting scratched up, especially Sly 2. Also, ICO's HD release also used the PAL version of the game so it gave us Americans new content. The HD coat of paint makes the games, especially Shadow of the Colossus, look so much more sharp and beautiful. Plus, they're getting more people to be fans of these games and making them accessible to people who don't have the original consoles. Also, for Sly Cooper, the rereleases will probably help the sales of Sly 4. Overall, I see no downfall to HD remakes. They're good for both the developer and the consumer. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go play some Sly Cooper.

I like it. I've bought quite a few of things I didn't play the first time.

Needs more Timesplitters, though.

If there is a market for it than people want it and will continue to support it. If there isn't then they will stop making them. I personally could care less about the HD remakes but I don't begrudge the market that does.

I don't see much point in releasing a low definition version of a new game...

I know that's not what you're talking about, but that's what your title is, so here's the answer you wrote for.

I like the idea of collecting games into a complete set like what they did with God of War and Infamous. HD re-releases are alright too depending on the title but some of the games re-released still look great in their original incarnation like Shadow of the Colossus and...Shadow of the Colossus off the top of my head.

I am relatively young and when I was a kid there weren't that many good game magazines, so I mostly played Tekken and other games that were present in a local gamestore (and they didn't have that much). I really, REALLY don't want to pirate games that I've missed out, so yeah, I like this tendency.

I like that it means I can throw away my PS2 now. I dislike that there's no actual graphical difference or change in gameplay between the originals and the HD versions most of the time - that's why Halo Anniversary Edition and Snake Eater 3D are some of my favourites - they actually changed something about the games rather than just being straight ports advertised as remakes. But yeah, it's nice to have all my games on current-gen consoles so I don't have to have the older ones lying around taking up space.

Now, why won't they hurry up and release the PS1 Spyro games as a PSN download in Europe, so I can finally get rid of my half-broken, dusty old PS2? :p

I would love real graphic updates. Remember the old "graphics" patch for Half Life? That's shit. Now, take a game like KOTOR, make it in UE3... now that's THE SHIT.
