Depends on my mood really, but my favourites are in the Romantic Comedy genre (Clannad, Toradora and School Rumble for example). When I feel like it I might go for an episode or two of Bleach (I'm only at episode 130-something), or go for other action packed animes like Black Lagoon, Devil May Cry and Trigun. However, I might go for something that's definately not safe for my own good and watch stuff like Umineko No Naku Koro Ni or School Days once in a while. I watch more or less anything as long as it's not hentai or yaoi and it keeps me entertained and/or intrigued.

Violent Sci Fi anime like they produced in the late 80/early 90s. Tenchi Muyo ruined modern anime with its retarded rom-com roots firmly entrenched into scifi plot. Robotech is superior to most shonen, at least a battle is going to happen that episode (even if it is just shoehorned onto some Minmei episode).

Give me Fist Of The North Star or Appleseed any day over anything put out today.

Hmm, tough one.

While I will watch most anime, I tend to lean toward the slight serious side rather than over the top comedy.
I would sooner watch say... Clannad or Shakugan no Shana over something like... Dokuro-chan or Rosaro + Vampire. o_O

That being said, I am enjoying Ranma 1/2 at the moment. ^^

mostly action-packed/supernatural animes, my favourites being Claymore and Hellsing (the OVA)

I tend to really not like anime, but I keep trying different ones out because a lot of them are so bizarre that it's nice to at least get something different once in a while, even if it's shit.

Not counting DBZ and pokemon because I watched those when I was a kid, really the only anime that I would acknowledge as really fucking good is Samurai Champloo. 90% of anime is filled with extremely unlikable characters who just fall into some archetype and have like, one character trait. Samurai Champloo had great character development and storytelling, and best of all, it was blended in with the action. There was little no "Here's 20 minutes of plot development in which nothing interesting happens, now here's a new pointless character that you have to keep track of." Also, when there's a fight to the death, you're supposed to try to kill the other person, not do something, then explain what you did, then taunt them about how they aren't going to win, then allow them 30 seconds to evaluate your ability.

So yeah, that seems to be the one exception. I've heard Cowboy Bebop is good too but I still haven't gotten around to watching it. Though if someone can recommend an anime that's similar to samurai champloo, or is at least good in the regular sense of the word rather than just the anime sense of the word, I'll definitely give it a shot.
If you like Samurai Champloo, you will LOVE Cowboy Bebop, it mixes action, storytelling and comedy all together. It also has great characters (especially Edd, Edd is awesome).

*You probably already know this but if you don't: Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo are made by the same people.

OT: I guess I like story-driven anime with good characterization, although can describe most good animes.

I like the more serious, psychological animes, but I tend to like detective animes such as Himitsu:the revelation or Mouryou no hako. I'm also partial to horror like tokko and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. However, I do enjoy the more comedic and mainstream ones, such as Majin tantei nougami neuro and bleach (respectively), although Bleach has become boring since it hit filler. I'm watching kuroshitsuji season 2 at the moment and I'm not impressed.

Psychological ones are always fun. And anything involving a crazy split personality to a guy.

But I tend to like anything.

I like ones with good story, plot twists, and relatable characters. Which is why I liked Death Note and Code Geass.

Being a nerd, I also like giant robots. So Gundam is good aslong as something actually happens in it.

I also like violent ones aslong as it looks badass. Which there's a bit of a lack of. I don't mind watching Naruto or Bleach, or DBZ, but I don't think they've got my ideal attitude for fighting scenes.

Sadly enough though, when I think action I dont think anime. Jackie Chan Adventures had the best fight scenes in animation history due to actually animating martial arts.

I *loved* Cardcaptor Sakura o.o And both the films too. Barring xxxholic I haven't really enjoyed much of Clamp's later stuff.

That being said I loved the first two Patlabor movies ... they made you think. They questioned the nature of criminality, and the strictures of law. Patlabor 2 was particularly enjoyable. barring 5 minutes of mecha action, the movie was about how one can see the world for what it is. A constant battle over a false peace and a brutal war.

How the two states can blue, and how a war can be fought in ways that are so completely unimaginable when we think of modern weaponry and current conflicts around the globe.

If you love the older anime features and you want a movie that will make you think either of the first two Patlabor films will deliver.

I watch a variety of anime. Lucky Star to SEL, Angel Beats to the Black★Rock Shooter OVA, and now I'm watching Clannad. I did enjoy Bleach until I realized I don't have the time to watch all of it. I prefer my anime to be short and sweet. I find it hard to keep interested if it spans over 100 episodes. Comedy, psychological, action, romance [more recently]. But I don't particularly like harem.

It also has great characters (especially Edd, Edd is awesome).
Why does everyone keep saying that? WHY?!
God, I can't stand Ed...
I agree though, Cowboy Bebop is the business. The only criticism I'd level is it had pretty awful female characters. Faye was supposed to be sultry and mysterious but just came off as childish, and wasn't very believable at all. Her small backstory thing was nice though, I'll give them that. And the less said about Spike's romantic interest the better.
Oh and of course Ed as well. Fucking Ed...

It's a shame, because Spike and Jet are two of my favourite characters ever. When it was just those two guys hanging out it was awesome times. I thought the other two just diluted it to be honest.

OT: I like animes that have a well paced and intelligent story (Death note), some awesome characters (Cowboy Bebop) or a mix of the two. (Full metal alchemist.)

I love psychological anime, that's why I love Neon Genesis Evangelion and Serial Experiments Lain. Also I love good story and that's why I love Elfen Lied, and I love action and thrills but doesn't uses it too much, that's why I love Hellsing Ultimate. And I love good mech animes, so I love NGE (again!) and RahXephon.

i like the good slice of life aniime e.g. Beck:MCS, wecome to the NHK and so on(i just kinda like the style),anything really good i guess i like coyboy bebop, wolfs rain, lain:serial experiments, flcl, eva(even though its overrated),baccano and FMA
i like stuff that makes me think(as long as its not pretensious),has a unique style(relistic bodies please),that have a good sense of homour and most importantly good writing
there are some anime that arent't normally my cup'o'tea but i end up liking
like:gurren leggan it didn't look like my thing but i thought i would give a watch because it had a weird style and it looked really high budget, but when i started watching i couldn't stop because it was so high paced and the jokes were very funny
opposite with code geass the style didn't look that good and from what other people said it looked kinda typical and boring, but when i stared watching(my friend forced me to watch it)
and the writing and story was so good i contiued to the end

I haven't watched too much anime but out of the ones that I have watched, there is a good variety. I love Samurai Champloo, Code Geass, and Cowboy Bebop and the only ones that are even remotely similar between those are Cowboy Bebop. Really I can get into any kind of anime as long as I find it interesting.
