but isn't that what people wanted? people want to own a copy of the game they buy, they give you a copy. can't you back it up to an external memory stick at all?
As I said on the last page, I believe you can backup games and channels onto an SD card.

I didn't even know that. It's pretty damn atrocious. What's weird is if microsoft or sony did that, the backlash would be immediate and fierce, and yet not once have I even heard about it with the wii.

Do you guys know how the Wii manages online purchases?

[HEADING=2]IT'S ALL ON YOUR Wii.[/HEADING]

Your Wii goes, you have to buy everything AGAIN. Full price. You can't store purchase data on anything. There's no account.

I'm hesitant to buy anything off of the VC now. I never had an NES/SNES/N64, so these games are very tempting to me.
There's got to be a hack for getting this stuff, then. If it's all pre-loaded.
its not preloaded, he means you dont have an online account that keeps track of your purchases so that you can redownload onto a different wii if your wii craps out or something.
Oh, I see now. Yeah, that's pretty stupid..

What I want to know is how Nintendo (and EA for that matter) can get away with re-releasing the same 4-5 games over and over again.

They sell these consoles called Retro Duo's now that you can put both Snes or NES cartridges in, essentially making it two systems in one.
And yet it still has nothing on the Super Genintari. :D

Lord knows what I would commit to get my hands on that thing...

Sorry for the double post.
My pride, it is scarred...
The only way that could be cooler is if it was steam powered

Buy cheap, old consoles and games off ebay. That's what I did. It also feels more genuine and it makes me look cool in front of my friends (in my head).

They have always been evil, but people were busy playing their games to realize it.

Umm... and? Nintendo isn't the only one who does that. iTunes store is the same way. When you buy a song, movie, app, whatever, you are paying for the rights to download it ONCE. If you lose it after that you're shit outta luck.

You can put all your downloads on an sd card, but i guess that is the same problem if the card breaks. Can you make a copy of the downloads?

I'm sure this was all just to be one huge anti-piracy protocol...
Oh sorry...
Wii is console...
And who would pirate Wii games?

I think it isn't a big deal because Wiis don't have a 50% fail rate like Xboxs. I only bought a few VC games but they work fine, and if I lose them its meh. I got my 5 hours of nostalgia out of Mega Man 2 for $8 so even if I never play it again it was a good value.

If you are so worried the original consoles are cheap enough. Some of the games like Mario 64 have been remade for DS (awesome btw). And if you are serious about archiving just get an emulator and download the ROM. But you can still buy the VC game is you want to throw Ninty a bone.

I blame being older I have not purchased games on the wii every game I have I have to have the physical copy of or it bugs me. :( but it does stink that if something happens to the console that people would lose games they purchased. Unfortunately gaming companies are businesses and trust me someone in a board room somewhere probably made the decision long ago that this was not a top priority in fact they probably encouraged not being able to recover data loss so that if the loss happened the player would be forced in either re-buying everything or risking losing a costumer. Since they make tons of money the risk of a few irate players losing everything is worth the ones who may break down and just re-buy everything sadly.

Because they have a massive fanboy market who try to shoot down anything bad said about it? And a userbase that doesn't understand that sort of stuff.
Agreed.

Kinda sad too, since the virtual console is the thing people use the wii for the most.
