Hopefully most people will have the presence of mind and social aptitude to do something other than sit on their backside playing Dragon Age while their neglected other half weighs the pros and cons of the relationship! I've learned that being a "Gamer" doesn't mean you have to be a one-note hybrid of man and console. Just as well, because it isn't a paticularly attractive motif to adopt!

The best advice I can give is to keep the controller out of the relationship; find things she enjoys and do them together. If she's also into gaming then all the better, but don't use that as an excuse to avoid doing other things too.
Very well said. I'm also impressed by your monkey dust avatar, I miss that show alot.

I've never had this be an issue for me, I've always treated games as a "when there is nothing better to do" time killing option...I play alot of games lately.

I mentioned this in another forum. My ex (who broke up with me a few weeks ago) used to complain whenever i started playing .hack//GU or MW2, she would say that i care about videogames more and that i dont spend enough time with her after we just spent the whole day doing stuff together.

She joins me on occasion, but since 3D games make her motion sick and since she sucks at them, we mostly stick to 2D platformers on the NES or Wii when playing together. This means that whenever she buys me a game, it is usually for the Wii and is usually of the Mario variety.

She's gotten pretty good at Dr. Mario in recent days.

I've had a few girlfriends, Most of them, think that because I'm a gamer I'm not communicating with them, I just don't want to talk to you every moment of every day constantly, Thats called annoying. The few girlfriends I've had who are cool with that particular quirk, haven't had any problem with my gaming.

Right now, No girlfriend though, so the Snuggy stays on.

We play most video games together... unless its a FPS then I do it when she's not around. So really it works out quite well.

She deals with it. Sometimes a few rounds of battlefield are more important than picking up my phone, she had better get used to it.

My girlfriends cool. She's not quite a gamer, but she does play games as a hobby, and she understands it. It helps that we do share being metalheads, so she understands how passionate I can be about gaming. She bought me Prince Of Persia Warrior Within on ps2 for christmas, so, well, she's awesome lol.

She plays with me, that's how. muhahahaha. We used to play WoW together, but since we quit, we've been playing lots of L4D, CS, and Borderlands.
Oh yeah me and my girl do L4D and half-life. When we first starting dating and I was away at college, we used to team up online in half-life servers and kick ass. She even had her name as "Budgy's Girl" too good!

Eh she seems to cope fine, and often is very helpful, considering my girlfriend currently is my right hand.

my ex only really got mad when she wanted to watch something on the big TV. other then that, she loved puzzle games so the DS was a wonderful distraction when i wanted to play something a bit more serious

No shame. I'm 16, never asked a girl out, and I would bet money that at 19 I'll be right there with ya.
Got my music, got my games, got my internet, I'm set.
