NONE of which are purely "for the perpetuation of the species".
Why should any individual care about perpetuation of the species? You are not your species. You aren't even your DNA. You could have an identical twin, essentially a clone, who's nothing like you. That's an entirely different person. You are an individual, and you will truly die regardless of whether or not you have genetic offspring.

It's not like we need more people anyway. There isn't a shortage. I can't think of a problem we're realistically going to have in the next 500 years that could be solved by breeding more people.

Not sure that I can really answer that question as it stands. It's too vague.

But I do think it's hugely important [http://spiritualmeanderings.wordpress.com/2010/09/20/sex-and-science-discuss/].

I'm asexual, because I gave up trying.

Over time, sex has become unimportant. I just don't even care about it anymore.
Are you sure it's not cause you can't get any? ZING! Haha j/k

Sex is important, whether you like it or not. Without a healthy sexual life it's hard to have a good, long lasting relationship. And by that I mean of all the repercussions that come from it. Unsatisfied partner, low self-esteem, etc.

How important is sex to me? As much as I would love to say not at all, I would be lying. It is very important. And as much as I would love to say society has in no way brain washed me into thinking whats hot and what's now, that too would be a lie. I like skinny girls. Maybe that is from the constant bombardment on television, billboards and such that skinny is beautiful. Or maybe it is because when I was a kid I was a fatty who always envied the good looking skinny folk. Could be either, I don't know.

Veeeery important. It currently occupies approx. 87.9% of my conscious thoughts. Trouble is, everyone seems to pick up on that fact, so now I'm "that creepy weirdo that makes women uncomfortable".
I'm actually a nice guy. Well, I try to be.

Interesting responces, I'm actually quite surprized at the amount of 'meh's.

Sex, intamacy, doing naughty/kinky things, and making out are all completely different in my mind.

Sex itself is not worth it, there is so much other fun bedroom activities that you can do that will never result in babies or STDs.

But doing SOMETHING with your partner is important because being sexually attracted to them is what the difference is between a partner and a best friend. And that complete intamacy is what really makes a good, long lasting relationship.

p.s. if I sound a little harsh its because this is just the opinion of a single father with an 8 year old with aspergers

You'd be surprised about the STIs. You can get quite a few of 'em through oral sex, sharing implements, etc.

/Safer sex PSA.

Edit: Also, when you combine proper usage of the pill and condom, the chance of pregnancy is somewhere between getting struck by lighting and getting eaten by a shark in a desert.

In my mind, unless your up for reproduction, and i have no idea why anyone would want to be, sex is fairly useless.

I have sex just about everyday.

I don't know if it's important, but it's a fun way to express what words can't.

When you love your partner that much, you want to make them feel as good as you can, as often as you can :)
Everyday? Man you must have a pretty special relationship with spouse/girlfriend
Can't help it :p

Besides, what better way to spend your time than cuddles, kisses and love!
I can think of a LOT of better ways to waste my time.

Personally I don't care for it if I don't truly like anyone. I think I need to feel a HUGE proper connection with someone to get that close. Sex for the purposes of having sex doesn't appeal much to me. Sex for emotional connection is what I'm looking for.

I don't think sex is important at all. Actually, I think it's overrated.

Also, I can't miss what I'll never experience.
Okay, I'll bite. Why?
The media and society in turn, place too much "importance" on sex. Like taxes, it's everywhere; TV, adverts, people freely discussing it openly just about anyplace I go. In the US, it's basically a rite of passage to (wo)manhood. Nowadays, people treat those who have yet to have sex (without having to resort to prostitution) as creeps, stalkers, pariahs and other unsavory things (this goes double for men, due to the bullshit that is double standards).
No, I was asking about why you won't ever experience it XD

Gotta be with someone who is really important to me. The act itself means little, what it stands for is essential. A connection between two people who love each other.

I'm not a huge fan of sex. It's okay, I'll do it every now and then but I'd prefer to go do something else, like have a conversation, or play a game.

To me? Doesn't do much. It's a rare indulgence to show my affection towards a significant other that actually gets something out of it.

Well then, by your reasoning I was hit by lightning WHILE getting eaten by a shark WHILE in the desert.
