For those of you who lift weights/work out, how long does each session usually last?

Purpose for this thread is that it has been brought to my attention that I might not be going long enough each session.

Thanks ahead of time for responses!

For me, 5 minutes of cardio warmup, half an hour of weights, half an hour of cardio. The weights consist of one group (arms, back+chest, abs, lower body) that I cycle through each session.

If the workout in question involved lower body, I usually chill a bit before I hop on the EFX.

I do about 5 minutes of crunches every day. Just keeps my stomach muscles toned. I'm at the perfect weight so yea, no real strenuous workout.

That isn't too much different than me.

What do you think the perfect weight is? You're going to lose weight if you stop working out, I'm fairly certain.

I usually do 30-40 minutes of cardio depending on how zonked I am from work.

I only do weights about 3 days a week, and it's just light reps. Not really interested in gaining huge muscle mass I just figure I'm already there at the gym so I may as well try to tone up a bit. So about 10-15 minutes of weights too.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be able to do 30 minutes cross trainer, 30 on a spin bike, 30 on elliptical and 30 minutes of weights for all body sections, but I have nowhere near enough free time :p

Mondays and wensdays about an hour of jiu-jitsu, typically 3 rolls a class. Friday gets about twenty minutes of weights. Then everyday of the week gets a good mile and a half jog.

Unless you're a weight training neophyte, your sessions are probably not too short. Once you're an experienced lifter, you only need forty-five minutes to an hour per session. Three or four days a week is average.

If you're training for the olymics, or the strongest man competition, or Mr. Universe. Then yeah, you may be undertraining. Then you might want to be training five or six days a week, one to two hour sessions, maybe even twice a day.

I go to a gym that is basically 20 minutes of intense training. they usually make us do a lot in a short time so they do a good job at making me very tired every day.

I don't, although that may soon have to change.

I've been able to get away with eating what I want and doing no excercise for about 22 years, but it now seems that age has crept up to me and I'm putting on a bit of weight.

Curse you time, You'll be the death of me and my fabulous figure.

Monday i do about 5 minutes of cardio, then 20 reps with 6kg weights per arm, then 20 reps on an ab-weight machine (i don't know the technical term. it's a bank of weights up to 200lbs, with a seat and a bar that goes over your chest that you push forward to lift the weights by using your abs) then i start again.

Any other day, i might do a few reps with my own 6kg weight, and use it to add extra weight during sit-ups, and i'll do push ups as well though i dont always do that. or i'll go to my school's gym and do the Monday routine (that's where i do it).

OP if you want more info just go read the sticky over at 4chan.org/fit/.

I'd caution that you don't venture outside of /fit/ and while you're there: don't post, just lurk.

OT: Less than I should I tend to rely on sports through university for general fitness but I've started a body weight regimen which is based on # reps not duration of training.
Depending on the day it'll vary from 30 mins - an hour or more.
As I get stronger I'll add in more movements which will increase how long I'm working for.

I cycle between P90X, Insanity, a few Bob Harper dvds, some kettlebell exercises that I find online, a bunch of my dad's old Tae Bo vhs tapes and i'm looking at maybe getting P90X2. So mine tends to be 30-60 minutes. I am in the tiny percentage of people trying to gain weight and not lose it because I have almost no body fat, but my Aquarius body prevents it. :I

Well it differs from person to person. For me, I'm 5'11" and weigh 140 pounds. I lose much more and I become anorexic.(complete with being able to count my rib bones) Also I once went 3 days without eating much of anything and I dropped 10 pounds and that was with no exercise at all.

I'm not worried about my weight. My problem is I now work in a place that requires me to spend long hours sitting in a computer chair. So my stomach muscles have weakened so much that it no longer can efficiently hold my stomach in. Giving me the appearance of being fat when really I'm at perfect BMI. Thats why I do crunches.

I try to get an hour of cardio/weights a day. I never have lost weight in my life though, just don't lose fat no matter how much I work out.

Who needs muscles? pfft.

I have a balanced Diet to keep me in check. which involves Fruit, Veg, Quorn for my protein, nuts too, the occasional bit of junk food and Cranberry juice. I'm 6 foot 2 and weigh 11 stone, perfect weight for me to be honest.

So to answer your question, I dont workout because I dont need or want to. :3
