I remember my first game being around the age of 4, some old target practice program or something on a pre-DOS computer. I got to press the spacebar to hit the target whilst sitting on my dad's lap.
I first played 'proper' games only a bit later, around 5-6, Commander Keen, Duke Nukem and the likes on a DOS computer.
However, I didn't become a real 'gamer-gamer' until about...11 or something. At that point we bought a proper computer (wow, that's just 8 years ago) and I bought a Gamecube myself and gaming finally took over from my previous favourite activity, LEGO's. Before that I bought a Gameboy already on which I absolutely spammed Pokemon Red, but I still rather played with LEGO's. Only after that PC and Gamecube shortly after I slowly started to abandon those good ol' plastic bricks.

Could use DOS when I was very young and had Duke Nukem/Commander Keen/Wolfenstien 3D/Prince of Persia and a load others.
Didn't get a console till I was older, always played everything on a PC, was always quite serious, wouldn't say there was a change from casual to being genuinely interested.

For more than 20 years now - so longer than a lot of people here have been alive. I'm not really sure exactly which game was my first, as we had a whole bunch of stuff on the Commodore 64 when I was a kid, and I was 4 at the time so there's the mental cotton wool of aging to factor in as well.
I like to think it was Archon, since that was awesome.
Then came the glory days of Shareware, with various Apogee titles occupying much of my time, along with the seminal Jazz Jackrabbit (so much fun!).

Casually since 1st grade, binging since 2007. You know, I'd play one game each year, over & over, all year long, until I made my first gamer-friend in 1998, & I binged at her house, but when she moved, it was back to casual until 2007 when I got my first job & could buy all the games I wanted, & by damn did I buy a lot of games that year...mostly old releases from 2001.
