Something to do with music.

As much as I would love to be a rock star, I don't think its that possible so I would be quite happy composing, teaching or doing session work.

Booyah.

I know I want to get into the field of network security. And I'm well on my way there, but looking at what I should know about versus what I currently know, I'm pretty far off. I know nobody should know everything, but they better damn well know just about everything.

I've ordered a netbook that I intend to carry around with me everywhere I go so that I can read articles and document relating to what I should know and find interesting.

I don't know either. I'd quite like to push the reset button and try again.
I've felt this way many times.
I've been thinking about this topic for the last eight hours or so. I thought about making a thread about it but couldn't be arsed, so thanks.

Hope that works out for you!

I'm currently studying medicine at uni and I want to specialise in oncology. That's my goal in life and that's what I'm working towards.
Out of curiosity, what inspired you to specialize in oncology?

I don't know to be honest, but for some reason cancer has always fascinated me. The strange thing is I wouldn't want to research it, but diagnosing what type of cancer it is (sarcoma, myeloma, basal cell carcinoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, lymphoma etc) and developing a treatment regimen (which in most cases is stupidly complex and will often need several adjustments during the course of the chemotherapy) just appeals to me.

The chapters on cancer are always the first ones I read when I buy a new textbook. I guess I just enjoy learning about its development (gradual mutations in coding DNA leading to malfunction of several so called 'tumour suppressor genes such as p53, BRCA 1, CHEK 2 etc which leads to uncontrolled cell devision and invasion of other tissues). And how the chemotheraputic drugs affect the cells (usually by damaging the DNA so badly it completely screws the cell.)

So I can't quite pinpoint it, and I know it's going to be a tough and nasty job, but I'm looking forward to it a massive amount.

I'm in college now, working my way into filmmaking. Post-production work, to be precise. Dunno how the pay/job security is gonna be, but at least I'll be able to say I'm having a whale of a time.

Also, in times of economic uncertainty, the entertainment industry (particularly, films) has actually been largely unaffected. Go figure.

Aspiring entrepreneur and possible author, although on the latter I would rather write storylines and scripts for video games or movies than actual novels simply because that is my forte. Nevertheless I am moving toward that direction, albeit slowly.

I'm currently enrolled in a trade school to become an electrician because I figured there would be some job security seeing as how dependent we are on electricity. While its interesting, an electrician isn't my dream job. Come to think of it, there isn't anything I really want to do. Does anyone else have a similar problem? For those of you that don't, what motivated you to pursue a career?
I'm lucky.

I just want to have the money to take care of those I love and feel deserve a hand.

I'm an Info Sys Tech in the Navy, advancing in pay grade as fast as I possibly could so far, but I dream of being an actor/comedian. Post-military college is where it's at for me. I'll just do Network security when/if the riskier, unstable careers falter.

Worst case scenario, I do nothing with my life (AKA, stay in the military), and take care of those who treated me with respect and dignity when they didn't need to. If you don't go boozing/whoring/clubbing, or don't define yourself by material goods, there's actually a decent flow of money being in the military.

I want to be like Harper Lee. Write something that is very well-received so that I never have to work again.

He already bought the gene-spice from me. Sorry.

I know what i want to be, i want to be the guy who fishes himself silly, climbs a few mountains and sees every continent. I want to be the guy who wakes up at least once with no idea who he is, gets lost in a new city. I want to be the guy who finishes i want to be the guy. I want to be the guy who can wake up every morning and have a big glass of juice.

As to what i want to 'do'? Well, that's not who i am. Doing is a good thing to do while you're not being.

Work to live, my Escapists, not the other way around. If your vision of yourself in 10 years is a job description, then you are in for a rude shock, and I say that as gently as possible. We all need to find our own way, but knowing that you have your hands on not just the wheel but also the accelerator is a damn good start.

I'd like to do some research into Biological weapons sometime in my life, but I doubt that's going to happen, with the Geneva conventions and all that. I am however going to study biochemistry, so we'll see what happens next. Chances are I'll start a firm myself though, keeping up the family tradition...

I do. Exactly what I am doing now is grand.

I just need to solve a few of my problems first and my life will truly be bliss.

If you want to be a chemical engineer be prepared to do a LOT of maths. I studied it for a year at uni, I remember we had a group assignment which ended up being 60 something pages long, and nearly half of it was just calculations.

I also remember a forth year project designing some chemical plant (what it exactly was escapes me now) which was 400 pages long. And was volume 1 of 3.

Just warning you.
