Up until about a year ago, I wanted to be a voice actor. However, I learned that voice actors often have to have a second job to support themselves, because there isn't always work available for them.
I then decided I wanted a more consistent job, something that involved me using my voice to make a living.... and attract the womenfolk. I decided to become a radio announcer, as one of my substitute teachers from elementary school a few years back.
After graduating high school, I decided to take a year off to start doing martial arts training. Kickboxing, Mixed Martial Arts, and Karate soon became my main focus in life. I had a summer job in construction, but I saw that as more of a temporary thing than a lifelong career - I hated the work but the pay was great.
As I trained and sparred with various opponents, I thought to myself "This is what I live for." The self-improvement, the thrill, the challenge - this is what I want to focus on in life. I regretted not taking martial arts earlier in life.
However, I still want to be a radio announcer, and to this end, I have a volunteer job at a TV station that I hope will give me valuable experience that will be useful for my career path. Unfortunately, this job often interferes with my martial arts training.
In 6 months, I'll be going to College for Radio Broadcasting. One of the major deciding factors in choosing my college was the proximity of the college to any martial arts schools. In the end, I decided on a college that is in a town that has horrible winter weather (I live in Canada, and I hate snow), but is close to what seems like an awesome kickboxing school. I had hoped to get into a school that teaches Muay Thai, but Kickboxing is a very close second.
So there you have it. The story of Duck Sandwich, the one who treads the dual paths of the Radio Announcer and the Kickboxer.
