How much violence/gore can you handle from a video game, TV show, anime and etc?

My apologies of this has been done previously. It does not appear to have.

Anyhow with that aside, I am curious of the tolerance level of the Escapist, primarily because I just finished watching Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni (so awesome), which personally up until episode 20 and 21 found it tame, despite some definitely questionable scenes of gore; hell I happily await for a bloodlust scene and it certainly provided a "holy shit" moment with the aforementioned episodes.

The above makes it rather apparent my tolerance level is pretty high. Friend of mine and what made me think of this thread cannot stand watching any violence to women even mild violence towards girls makes him cringe. So where do you stand?

So far i haven't met any gore i cant handle. I put it down to that once something gets really gory it just looks stupid (with the exception of Saving Private Ryan) Monty Python Style.

If it looks very realistic, I don't like it much. But the only thing that will make me not watch the screen are things happening to teeth, eyes or nails. And more or less everything in violenceporn movies like Saw. I like my violence to be over the top, not realistic. In movies anyway. In games everything goes.

Let me put it this way, when my friends were wincing at the sight of some guy getting torn apart, bit by bit, vital organs spilling out, I was laughing.

Ninja Gaiden 2 is probably the limit for games, I don't like any more gore than is realistic (well, for a game at least).

If it's gore for the purpose authenticity, then I'm fine with it.

But if it's just staight up gornography, no thanks.

Happy Tree Friends. For some reason, I just can't watch it. Games and movies don't bother me much though, as long as it isn't done for its own sake...

I haven't seen anything yet I had to turn off because it was too gorey or too violent. I don't go out of my way seeking it, but sometimes someone tosses me a link or tells me to watch this. A few times I've seen Ero Guro (wiki, likely NSFW) [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ero_guro] when people have linked me to it. I'm not a huge fan, but I don't have to click off it in disgust.

I can handle any amount of gore, I'm a pretty fucked up person, nothing shocks me anymore.

The only thing that affects me is when something happens to eyes. That always makes me flinch.

I went through the entire "Offended" page and didn't even feel disgusted.

I find the gears of war games and Madworld extremely funny...

And as commented earlier by Somelameshite (sounds like I insulted you, sorry) if watching a movie like that both me and my brother laugh pretty good. While some writh in imaginary pain...

Seeing as I'm studying medicine and have seen some lovely things when it comes to surgery quite a large amount. Seeing a gallbladder being removed does tend to desensitize you somewhat to the idea of blood and gore. But even though I can stand it, often I find that there is no need for over the top violence and gore in movies, it can be too easy to get carried away with things such as that.

I lol'd at most of hostel, as well as wretching. Some of the kills in Manhunt made me grasp the body part that was being dismembered or brutally stabbed and go, "fuck, I'm lucky I have this!"

Violence and gore are just tools. If you sacrifice a good plot for excessive gore, then its worthless. However, provided the story is at least tolerable, even if the gore is hilariously over the top its still good.

And I must admit, I do enjoy seeing stupid people getting screwed over. "I said don't open that door. Now you are dead. However I wouldn't have opened it, so I would still be alive. I am smarter than you. Ha."
