How much violence/gore can you handle from a video game, TV show, anime and etc?

I can handle over-the top gore, like in Madworld, but realistic violence, like someone mentioned in the Saw movies, is hard to watch.

Alot of people are saying there desensitized to gore all over due to games and films, it sounds like a fair theory but to be desensitized to it in real life is another matter. Gore on screen and off screen are 2 different things. When it comes to Games, Films and Anime I have a high threshold for it but if i watched a man or women there and then lose an arm to an explosion or get it cut off, I'm sure i would feel differently.

I think i'm just desesitized. But then again i'm a massive fan of gore, i love anything bloody and violent. Although i do get embaressed when i'm with my friends who have really low tolerence to blood and violence.
Example:
The movie Braindead or Dead/Alive, towards the end, too much gore to shake a stick at, there's severed heads, intestines, limbs flying all over the place. I'm laughing really hard, thinking the movie is just plain awesome. Several of my friends leave the room/cover their eyes/go up stairs.

I can take most stuff. The only time I've been a bit bothered has been A History of Violence, and maybe Eastern Promises. Also, the Battle Royale manga was pretty nasty.

There has never been an occasion where violence or gore has shocked me. Sometimes it will make me raise an eyebrow if it seems particularly excessive, or laugh if it's ridiculously overdone, but I've never been offended or shocked by it. But then I don't watch "gorn" style things. Not really my cup of tea. And while I'm fairly desensitised to violence in media, I imagine in reality it would be a very different story.

Can't think of any moments in games actually. Although on the butcher level of Hitman: Contracts I grimaced a little when I saw that girl hanging upside down. Due to some poor animation though when he picks up her arm as 'evidence' it looks like he's got a novelty toy.

Not sure about films. I watched the departed yesterday every time someone gets shot there's like an explosion, but it's not disturbing.

Seeing toes and stuff get cut off makes me cringe though. Even the implication of it.

A fair point, but the thread title did specify where we're handling it. Spend a few weeks in A&E and I'm sure you'll find yourself desensitised to real life gore as well.

Welcome to the Escapist, by they way ;>

Pretty sure I can handle anything thanks to the internet.

If anyone has a particularly gruesome film I'm happy to give it a ganders, I'm expecting it to be Japanise, I don't think they know how to ban things do they?

I'm impervious to virtual violence, of course.
ALthough I don't like very gory films. It's just ugly.

Hey, if its fake like on tv and movies I can handle as much and as realistic as they show, but if it isn't I feel physically sick and can't stand the sight of it.

If it's gore for the purpose authenticity, then I'm fine with it.

But if it's just staight up gornography, no thanks.
that just about sums it up

A lot.

I'm completely desensitized. It started with the detective series my parents watched, and it got worse from there.

In real life I can't handle shit, though. Probably a good thing. I'm not COMPLETELY desensitized.

Never finished Manhunt because it was too violent.

Anything less than that seems ok

In games I can withstand any amount of dismemberments, decaps and disembowels and with the likes of war scene photos I dare say they could make them photo realistic now without bothering me.

However I just for the life of me cannot bring myself to watch a simple medical procedure on the TV.

My apologies of this has been done previously. It does not appear to have.

Anyhow with that aside, I am curious of the tolerance level of the Escapist, primarily because I just finished watching Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni (so awesome), which personally up until episode 20 and 21 found it tame, despite some definitely questionable scenes of gore; hell I happily await for a bloodlust scene and it certainly provided a "holy shit" moment with the aforementioned episodes.

The above makes it rather apparent my tolerance level is pretty high. Friend of mine and what made me think of this thread cannot stand watching any violence to women even mild violence towards girls makes him cringe. So where do you stand?
for me, Dead Space is probably about my limit. Anything else is just too excessive.
