So, we all know there are (probably) lots of aliens out there, and according to scientists, they'd have to abide a certain shape or form for them to be sentient beings.

However, an ideal image for them doesn't have to be like that (as the media has shown us). They can be anything we want them to be.

So, how do you imagine an alien would look like?

EDIT: wow, so many serious replies..
I was expecting imaginative replies like "hello kitty with tentacles for arms"

an alien can look like anything.

we know very little about the universe, especially if you consider that it is always expending or collapsing...

and even that is only to our knoledge, it could be doing things that we have no word for, that we couldnt even sense... how would we ever know?

Considering english is my 3rd language and that I can spell "you're" , I think I'm well off, thanks for nothing.

EDIT: the "you're" was referring to the Internet in general, not your post.

Must...not post...picture....of Cthulhu...

Aliens can be anything from bacteria to creatures that stand. I don't have a specific definition.

There are infinite ways an alien could look. I hate how "professionals" think every other living being in the universe would need to abide by the same genetic laws as us. We are not the greatest species in the universe people, if we were god wouldn't be trying to kill us all the time.

probably a lot like us, on account of in this atmosphere this was the best evolution could cough up, so assuming that the aliens would be coming from a similar planet and are also carbon based structures, then 4 limbs, brain, etc
or little green men from mars

Anything at all. They probably won't have cells, arms, mouths, they might not even eat. They might generate their own energy. They might reproduce by transforming other animals into their own species.

We just can't say.

IMO Aliens would very likely NOT be bipedal. If it has two legs and two arms I very much doubt it's an accurate depiction of an alien. They probably look unimaginable, or have sensory receptors we can't really think of. We assume everything has eyes, ears, nose, etc. What if they have something else?

Why do they need to have a "head" with all their sensory organs on it? They don't. Two eyes? Unlikely.

depends on the planet that they live on.
Gravity, planet color, sun brightness.

it's like saying, how would a animal look like.
they are all different depending on there environment.

The way I see it, there are two possibilities. Either they develop in a totally different ecosystem and look nothing like anything we've ever seen before--maybe a ring of compound eyes on the top of a long vertical body that moves with dozens of tiny little rapidly moving tentacles around the base, or even a blob of sentient gas. Or maybe a bipedal, four-limbed, tailless, single-headed form is the most optimal for survival, in which case if we meet intelligent aliens, they might not look much different. Hence the "Grays".

An alien can look like anything, it all depends on the environment they exist in.

The clue is in the word. Alien is anything that is alien to our species so technically; if we find a new form of life under the sea, it would be alien regardless of how it looked. Some scientists even believe that there may be some form of life on Neptune under all of that ice.
