Take the anime DVD out of its case and put it in a porn DVD's case and leave it in plain sight. That way, no one will think you're weird...

I used to have a similar problem, where I was embarassed to buy certain games. This haunted me for many years, until I wanted to reserve the Klonoa: Door to Phantomile wiimake. I realized that being ashamed of what you like just because it does not fit well with society's impressions of you is a sign of insecurity. I reserved that game, and I believe I have dispelled this problem (I haven't had to test it yet). If somebody questions your style or what you, personally like, you steel your nerves and say, "You got a problem with that?"

My friends would understand as they are anime fans too. Fuck what my family thinks of me, except my brothers, father and one of my cousins because they understand too.

You could always hide it where no right minded person would snoop? And if they find it you can say "Well if you wanted to snoop in my porn collection you got what you deserved."
Won't it be even worse if they find it in your porn collection, it may send the wrong sort of image.
Agreed. You don't want people to find Dragonball Z DVDs next to Bubble Butt Babes Volumes 1-64(a name I just made up but may actually exist).

Can somebody please google BBB and tell me if it actually exists (just for shits and giggles).
It exists, I have way too much free time and google when people tell me to.

Anyway on topic, tell them that the DVDs remind you of your childhood and you watch them to remind you of back then, that's how I explain my DBZ dvd collection, ahhh a simpler time when I was only nine, now I'm 19 now.........but goddamn that show is still awesome.

I've gotten a few strange looks when people glance at it however if they say anything I just play it and let whoever is watching it enjoy mental scarring for life.
That's the exact reason I bought the 1970-something animated version of Return of the King! Very few people survive (with their sanity fully intact) seeing a large bunch of grey toad-like things (allegedly orcs) singing a song called "where there's a whip, there's a way", punctuated between lines with a whip-crack.

Damn they had some good drugs in the 70s. They musta been baked to think it was gonna be a success.

There is no need to be ashamed.

You can either try the nostalgia-route, like elricik suggested.

Or you can show them that anime is not all childish kids cartoons many people think it is. Show them something like Ghost In The Shell and afterwards ask them if they still think its for kids.

Besides, if your friends and loved-ones were to think less of you for having a bunch of anime, I'd try looking for better friends. Family will love you regardless, even though it may not look like it.

Huh, that's interesting.

Well, just so long as you don't have a copy of AMV Hell 0 and someone accidently runs it on your computer and watches it.

If that happens then kiss your entire social life goodbye.

....

I've got to set someone up for this!!
Dare I ask what is AMV Hell 0?
