When you have kids, how will you handle Santa Claus?

Simple question, many answers?

Tell them after they ask me. Until they ask, they don't get to know whether or not Santa exists.

Once they ask, I will tell them the truth.

Never mention him to begin with and if they mention him, explain him in such a way as to make them feel superior for not believing in him. Same way I did as a kid.

Santa's a part of growing up, I'll tell them about him for sure. They'll figure out the truth eventually...

The same way everybody else does: lie to them until the media or the school bully tells them otherwise.

Santa Claus is a symbol of the spirit of giving within all of us.

Pretend that he exists until they can work it out for themselves, it's a good lesson that adults might not always tell the truth and to help teach them to think for themselves.

I think I would imply that santa is the one bringing gifts without ever actually saying santa and that when they started asking presents from family that would be the time to let the whole charade drop. This way I am never actually lying to my kids.

Hey kiddo, time to let you in on a family secret. Truth is that Santa hasn't existed since Christmas Eve 1994, when my father, your grandfather, thought he was a burglar and beat him to death with a club.

But don't tell your friends, cause then they'll know that your family killed Santa.

Santa's not real?!!?

Ok sorry.

OT: I would like to think that my kids would be able to work out that such a character would not be real on their own, as it only takes a few moments of logical thought to realize that Santa isn't real. However, If I had to tell them I would leave obvious clues.

I'll teach my kids that santa is as real as any human being, but not like any man they ever will meet. He is an ideal, the perfect idea of a man. A man devoted to kindness and generosity. He is the kind of humanbeing we all want to be, and in the darkest time of winter, we all need to be like him. To share a passion with other people, so that we can look forward. So that we can rejoice over the lighter times that is about to come, and the darkness we leave behind. I will teach them that Santa Claus is what everyone should be, but very few are.

I'm not going to lie to the about Santa and just say "I've been delivering presents."

If they ask about Santa, I'll tell them the truth, and also not to tell other kids.

He doesnt exist, We buy the presents. But we love to spend some nice time as a family together.
The way it worked with me as a kid, and still we had a lot of very nice and merry myth- and religionfree christmas evenings

I would not tell my kid about it. When he eventually learns about Santa I will tell him he does not exist.

On the off chance a woman actually convinces me to father children (not one slip-up in 12 years of sex, not much chance of an accident)... I'll tell 'em the truth right off the bat. I would want my kids grounded in the sciences from day one.

"You can either have Santa, or you can have [insert childhood nightmare here].
If you believe me capable of simulating one, be assured I can simulate the other. Belief has nothing to do with it. Decide."

You better believe I'll tell my kid/kids Santa is real! Once they start thinking he's not, I'll just play this song to them:
