It's like arguing with people that think the moon-landing was faked.

Or Creationists.

Or people who think homeopathy works.

Or people that think that Climate Scientist are part of a socialist plot to bring down capitalism.

Or Glenn Beck.

No matter how much evidence that you hold in front of their eyeballs they will always fall back to people and sources that agree with their world view.
The moon landing WAS faked, when the astronauts got there, the camera were faulty and all the image date was unusable, so they just shot a reenactment, America's Most Wanted-style.
Somebody had to create that accident that created life.
Climate Scientist is a socialist plot to bring down the phone company.
Homeopathy totally works. But only if you clap enough.
Glenn Beck raped and killed a girl in 1990.

First off, the Holocaust totally happened. If nothing else, the German work ethic can not be denied. Furthermore, the jews, while crafty and manipulative, are far too cheap to pay for those "fake" cocncentration camps. Even if they hired mexicans, they'd still have to fly them overseas, and all that freight space adds up. If anything, the jews are DOWNPLAYING the number executed because they dont want us to know how close they came to having their secret world domination cabal destroyed.

That's how you convince them. Use their own bullshit ignorant ideas against them

Go find someone with the tattoo, tell them to look that person in the eyes and only the eyes while they talk about their experience.

You can say pictures are doctored, you can say books are written by the winners, you can say all the camps were built as a ruse. But theres no denying when you see someone recount something like that, and watch the change their eyes take and what it conveys.

Of course if they're stuck to the idea, theres not really a lot you can say or do, but that would be my most powerful peice of evidence. Not my first choice, but they dont want to believe the other evidence, extremes must be taken.

Hey guys, I have a really bizarre question to ask. As the title says, imagine if I was one of the crazy people who think the Holocaust was one giant conspiracy, what would you do to try and convince me otherwise.

Keep in mind that I wouldn't be swayed by witnesses or historical accounts because that's all "part of the lie", and I wouldn't be affected by an appeal to logic or reason because I'm clearly insane. You'd need near-irrefutable proof to convince me that history isn't one giant Jewish-controlled conspiracy.

Oh, and sorry if this question is offensive, I just thought it would be an interesting thinking exercise, not trying to offend anyone.
hit them....with a bat....hard....thats way when they meet god/satan/buddha/lord zenu/cthulu/santa christ they'll be put straight.and we never have to hear the stupidness of them again.

I wouldn't do anything. There's clearly no point and I have better things to attend to.
Actually there IS a point.

Those who propagate these rediculous claims MUST be challenged publicly. The idea is not to convince one person, but expose the idea to others as rediculous and poisonous.

Look, eventually, we won't have living proof of the Holocaust, as what few survivors remain will die. This is going to happen in our lifetimes, which means we're going to live in a world where there ARE no witnesses to such an atrocity.

Look at anti-muslim rhetoric after 9/11. Now imagine that same rhetoric without the living idea that massive systematic racism is HORRIFYING. Imagine the people thinking 'Hey, we should just round them up!' without being able to see Mr. Rosenthal over there with a tattoo on his hand that says 'Yes, it really IS bad to gather humans as cattle to the abbatoir.'

We actually DO need an independant scientific study of holocaust remains. We need it studied scientifically, and made so it cannot be refuted this happened, because it won't be long before someone else will get the idea that concentration camps are a good way to improve the nation's economy, and it won't be long before no one will be left alive to say 'Never again.'
All fine and good but when the OP dares me to convince someone who flat out says he will ignore all physical evidence and the testimony of everyone who was involved, he's basically saying that the person is a brick wall. What other type of evidence could I possible provided by accounts of people involved or physical evidence of the events. I'm not going to try and convince a brick that its not a brick and I'm not going to argue with someone so dead set on their position that no conventional argument will sway them. I support continuing to spread the knowledge of the events of the holocaust but I also know that some people, no matter how much evidence is provided, will never acknowledge that evidence.

The plain amount of ignorance from these people and my failed attempts of persuading with reason and evidence would lead me just to beat the belief into them, people who dont think that the holocaust happened are completely hopeless....

Personally?

I'd punch them in their stupid face. Because they're acting so stupid.

Not to necesarily to convince them...but because it'd be the only thing I could think of to respond to their idiocy.

Why bother? If they don't believe that an event as well-known and well-documented as the Holocaust happened, you'd be wasting your time trying to argue logic or reason against them.

It'd be like not only denying the moon landing happened, but denying that all the reports and news broadcasts of it happened as well.

Show them actual proof?
Question everything.
Is there some nazi papers somewhere detailing how many people they slaughtered in camps?
I'm a little disturbed by how many of you seem to resort to violence or censoring when questioned.

My opinion, and I'm not a huge fan of absolutes or binaries, is that there are exactly two sorts of people who say they don't believe in the Holocaust: (1) liars and (2) naive, ignorant folk who live in a place isolated from the big bad world out there with all of its liberal arts universities and reality shows and wonder "Who is this Wayne and why is he so Li'l?"

Understand, because they aren't yet a free society (though Libya may soon be one, if we don't bug the fuck out and call it even like we did with Afghanistan and possibly create another Taliban/Al Qieda), we don't actually know how close to revolution Iran recently came. Also: shame on Obama, Boener and all the rest of those pussies for not supporting the people of Iran who stood up to their leader, and the possibility of imminent death. Rest assured, those university students are not Holocaust deniers.

How would you convince someone that the Roman Empire existed?
Exactly, that's kind of my point. I just used the Holocaust because it's a very, um, "popular" thing to deny....

Well if I wanted to convince someone that the holocaust was real I certainly wouldn't ask for tips on a gaming website forum. I'd probably head over to: http://www.holocaustdenialvideos.com/ and do some research on why holocaust deniers actually deny the holocaust. I'd then spend some time trying to refute those theories. If you can't do that you're not going to convince him. Good luck!

I would give them copies of the Nazi shipping manifests and accounting records. Those malevolent bastards, along with having a marvelous sense of fashion, kept excellent records. It's more expensive to exterminate millions of people than most would probably guess. They invested heavily in finding the most efficient means of extermination.

Or you could always show them the video from the camps. But we all know how Hollywood faked the moon landing so that wouldn't work.

Some people just don't believe in "evidence". There just a thing yesterday about how Texas's environmental agency disagreed with scientific findings that sea levels are rising, not because they doubt the evidence but because they didn't like the font (or some other equally ridiculous WTF reason).

Holocaust deniers believe that primary evidence has been doctored or fabricated or consists of lies. It is hard to convince someone when they strongly believe that the proponents go to every length to create a propagandistic illusion.

I would be patient. Peoples' perception of evidence is different due to confirmation bias. When a Holocaust sceptic sees a survivor's testimony, they may subconsciously perceive the testimony with an air of suspicion, reading the body language and tone of the voice differently, anticipating clues of dishonesty. They will see it in a different way to someone who believes in and trusts the survivors' stories. The same goes, probably, for other sources. They might see Aushwitz as an elaborate hoax. It's not just a matter of challenging a person's beliefs directly, but also their cognitive process - not to imply that holocaust denial is a mental illness, just the outcome of different thought processes and life experiences. People should be allowed to believe and think whatever they will, and to suggest that there is one "normal", objective human experience and view of reality to which all must conform gives rise to oppressive groupthink. That's a very bad way for a society to go. So whilst I think cognitive bias can be challenged, it's wrong to persecute someone for their beliefs.

Gonna go with the mass consensus and say that people are very stubborn in their beliefs. Very rare to sway someone's belief of something. If only we could send all these people to a camp where they could learn to concentrate and listen to reason.
"Camp where they can learn to concentrate"
I see what you did there

To the best of my knowledge there was a Jewish (the race not the religion) pandemic circa 1942 and the internment of the Jews was actually an attempt at quarantine. At least that's what we get taught in Stuttgart.
