Is this really a 'right' or 'wrong' situation?

For example: When I'm referring to my Aunt, I pronounce it ANT.
But there are regions in Canada (East coast I think) who pronounce it AUH-NT.
Nice Sterotype. I say ANT and im an east coast canadian.
I sometimes say Aunt with the U.. but it's not just a canadian thing.

In Men In Black, Will Smith says it with a U as well, and he certainly ain't canadian :p

Meh-Leh.
Because it's French, and French people have an awesome way of pronouncing things.
EDIT: Dammit, ninja'd.

It's may-lay, mee-lee is wrong.
I originally said it WRONG (like saying Mee-LEE), but I do a lot of things WRONG and then try to correct.

To me, the correct way to say it is May-lay.

I know that it's probably meant to be "May-Lay", but I just use "Meh-Lay", probably due to it being the way it is pronounced on the intro to SSBM.

i believe it's actually closer to Meh-lay, because the first e in Melee has an accent on it. though i pronounce it Mee-Lee

Its definitely not 'Meelee'.

Melee is taken from the french word mêlée; in english we pronounce it as 'Meh-lay', but it would not be considered incorrect to pronounce it 'May-lay'.

i pronounce it: hitting things with other things
Hey what a coincidence! XD

But in all seriousness it's May-lay. My boyfriend and I are constantly arguing about the pronunciation of things. For some reason (probably because I just got up) all I can really remember is a debate over the pronunciation of the pokemon Unown. I said "Unknown" he said "oo-non" the arguement went so far as that he looked it up on Youtube. I was right. XDDD

And my best friend says "Sawl-min" instead of "Sam-men" for salmon. This is an argument that will never end and we'll be two elderly cat women sitting in rocking chairs on the front porch continuing the debate until one of us dies and has it printed on our tombstone.

Meh-lay is correct in non-US English and is closer to the original French.

In French it's written "mêlée", which shows how it should be pronounced: the first e sound is short and the second e sound is open.

Okay, you smartarses ;) the correct french pronounciation is more like "meugh-leh", not "may-lay". That seems like an anglicism to me. I don't care what way you pronounce it, just don't act like youre doing the single most perfect thing evar :0
