I went gonzo in about 2 months. Mind you, I did spend a lot of time back then in Forum Games & RP. Nowadays I try to spend more time in Off-Topic and try to put more detail into my posts in Off-Topic and also in any RPs I'm in. When I did go gonzo, it was fairly special a time as it was also the same night Neonbob went on the record, so we ended up asking ae86gamer in A Classic Game 2 if she would make us some cake.
And she did!
It was a lovely cake. Body parts and everything. She's a great sport.

I am Going Gonzo too. The funny thing is that until the last month I had only 400 posts in 12 months! Not to say that I am in a rush to Go Gonzo, I just became more comfortable with the forums :) Although I do want the Neo badge... Also, why would anyone consider to be relaxed with the rules after breaking the 1000 posts number? It's not like you became best buddies with the mods or anything... I shall follow the rules. Just wait Neo, in about 4 years I shall have you in my badge collection!

Ah that was some nice cake. She really doesn't compromise does she?

Good times, good times...

Yeah. It may have been a "spam" thread in some eyes, but we had some great conversations going on underneath it.
I think I got into a habit of having those little snippets of banter under my game posts.

We still do them every once in a while because of that thread. They're still fun to have as always.

i went gone gonzo a couple of months ago. let's see, i joined August last year so it took me about...7 or 8 months. i'm so glad, i WILL get the Neo badge (5000 posts i think, if someone could clarify that i'd be grateful) though it will probably take me a LOOONG time.
if you have ever been put on probation or been suspended before, then its locked. its for 5000 posts without being hit by the modhammer. and yes probation counts. that locked away my morpheus badge.
i've never been put on probation or suspended. i've had a thread locked (ahh, drunken antics) but that's about it.
Most people get probations after 1000 mostly because they relax too much with the rules

Like me and others
it has been quite tempting recently to see how far i can push the rules without getting screwed for it but knowing me i'll go to far and get banned so i think i'll be a chicken and play it safe...for now MWAHAHA...sorry
Not that you want to push the rules, just that you forget and laugh at a bad joke and get probed, by mods not aliens ofcourse
not been probed by mods yet

Congratulations Simalacrum.
Not, I must stress, on going Gonzo, but rather for taking your time to get there.

I may be wrong, but I'm guessing that at least a good portion of those 1000 posts you slowly made were in some way an actual contribution to the threads you posted in. As opposed to the way the vast majority of people with ungodly high post counts for their join date, myself included, attained that title. By posting just for the sake of posting, no matter how pointless the comment.

As for your questions.

Simalacrum said:
If you have Gone Gonzo (or more), how long did it take for you to get there?
Within a month of joining, most of it was pretty pointless comments.
That was back when Gonzo members were few and far between, and even regulars who had been around for a while would generally have only a 1000 or (if they were really enthusiastic) 2000 sized post count. For most people at the time, I and my ilk were viewed as pointless and spammy idiots, which is a fairly accurate description. The fact that 1000 posts took me a month is more a source of shame than anything else. The remaining few thousand in my post count, however much that is, have taken me the last nine months. Which is a decent improvement. I think.

Later on, post count ratios went way up and now 1000 posts in a month seems like nothing.

Did you care at all about going gonzo?
I did at the time, I remember there was a few posts from others saying something along the lines of either "*sniff* they grow up so fast" or "It took you only a month? Don't you have a job or something?"
As the number of Gonzos grew, and the speed at which other new Gonzos were posting to get there increased, the title lost the importance it used to have.

If you haven't, do you wish to Go Gonzo?
Well I am, but if I could go back and delete all the pointless shit I've said over the past ten months, I wouldn't be bothered if that took my postcount to below Gonzo levels.

How much for the sex-change operation?

(Before any of you ignorant and un-knowing idiots report me, "gonze" means guy in French, I.E Evil Jak became a guy just a couple of days ago)
I have edited it, its gonzo know... all sorted, and it didnt cost that much... I was a trophy wife before the sex-change so "I" had extra cash lying around. XD

Try checking your "joined" date on your profile. You've been with us for 14 months.

I took a couple of months to Go Gonzo, but it doesn't really mean that much.
It doesn't mean much, but for me it was just a nice milestone to hit. Seeing as i've Gone Gonzo twice, i'm just chillaxing with my posts now.

At the time, I was pretty happy with going gonzo, but now I don't really care all that much, my join date isn't going to change. I've certainly slowed the post rate nowadays too.

Besides, it's not like I'm memorable. Can you honestly say that anyone honestly say they remember me? I suppose that would come from either a) being interesting or b) being around for bloody ages. Having more posts isn't going to make you a big boy on the forum.

I remember seeing people with 1000+ posts when I first came here. I remember envying their Gone Gonzo status. I remember telling myself that I would never reach that, so I didn't post very often. After I reached Pulitzer Laureate, I started posting in every thread I deemed interesting. Some days I reached over 40 posts. After I reached Gone Gonzo, I lost the initial excitement and now post around 10-20 each day.

I have no real idea of what my post count is at any given time, so it predictably means very little to me. I'm far more in favour of quality over quantity. That and I'm not part of any clique on here so I tend to lurk more than I feel able to post.

I guess my Gonzo'ing will occur some time near the second anniversary of my joining, or thereabouts.
