I intend to go down in a blaze of glory...they can have what is not riddled with bulletholes, although it might just be a kidney.

On a serrious side, I am not an organ donor, since I do not care about random strangers I have never even seen. And if my condition becomes so severe that I NEED a new organ, I will happily off myself. I have not even given blood...well once, because I was hungry and you got a sandwich after it.
Sorry but that I just my opinion, not to mention the health risks and the paranoia from the organ mafia. And yes, I just said that I´d rather kill myself then to live on with a donor organ happily ever after, fuck life, it is not sacred, it is not holy, it is not worth more then the DOG you just killed off because his condition became "unbearable for him"...

To the group of people that suggest that the government make organ donation an 'opt out' system I ask this. Should any governing body be allowed the authority decide what happens to the denizens of its land without their permission? I say no. Making the default system one that allows my organs to be removed violates my human right to my own body.
Here and in several other countries, the opt-out bit is for the drivers licence and is worded "Cross this box if you do not want to be an organ donor:" rather than "Cross this box if you want to be an organ donor:". Apparently (according to a TED talk [http://www.ted.com/talks/dan_ariely_asks_are_we_in_control_of_our_own_decisions.html] I saw a while ago) it corresponds to far more organ donors. It seems a lot of people do not choose not to cross the box because they do not want to be a donor, but rather because they are unsure and therefore go with not changing anything.

I do not believe this implementation of an opt-out system to be unethical, though there are of course versions which are more questionable.

It's everyones option, go with what you're comfortable with, i want a funeral pyre, so take everything you can from me then burn what's left.

I am not an organ donor. The only reason being that I feel comfortable with it.

Though if I'd be in danger I would really appreciate getting someone's donor organ..

Am I a bad person?

Please be objective, I'm just wondering

EDIT:
To elaborate, I would feel kind of desecrated if people started to cut in my body, however one of my life goals is to save someone from death..

I started this thread to get some opinions and to see if anyone could change my mind, Thanks for the reactions so far! :)

Also: Is it possible to put terms up when you sign for donor? For example if I'd just want to give a kidney?

(Semi-changed my mind so far :))
Dude, don't stress yourself. I'm not an organ donor... I have a great respect for people who are, but it is one of the few things that truly scares me. I kinda see death as a reward; a chance to rest once my life has been lived... I just can't handle the though of being trapped in the mortal realm, or being desiccated ad hewn. If ever a member of my family or a friend needs an organ which I can give, I would happily oblige, but after death... I kinda draw the line, man.

Just be charitable in other ways, man.

Well...you wouldn't feel desecrated. You wouldn't feel anything, seeing as you'd be dead.

That's my thinking.

Na tho u could give blood, that would be a good deed! And it saves lives. I spoke to a doctor recently who wouldn't give up his body to science cos he hates the idea of medical students rummaging thru him even tho he would have done the same thing at medical school. Personally i don't see the point in hanging onto your bits after you die. You are dead and unless your familt want a wake or something i don't know. If u had someone in need u knew u could offer up your kidney to them though u would need to match their blood group. I recommend giving blood (y) :) x

No, you're not evil. Evil doesn't exist. At least you care about people; just not enough to overcome some ridiculous and illogical urge to keep your body whole after death. So clearly you don't care about them much after all.

Personally I wouldn't want to be a donor because I might accidentally save the life of someone I don't like. I don't care about what happens to my body though. They could chop it up and use it as dog food for all I care. Hell, they could ignore my wishes and take my organs anyway. I wouldn't care. I'd be dead.
No offense but that is possibly the most selfish reason against donation I have read on this thread today. I have no problem with people who are against having their body cut up after death for whatever reason, but is there really that many people that you hate enough that you wouldn't want to save their life? Even though you don't care about what's done with your body? Also, realistically the chances of you knowing the recipient in life at-all are really slim.

Do you at least donate blood you selfish blister on societies toe?

and you have to die in a way that preserves the organs and they have to cut them out quickly enough. your chances of actually being able to donate are slim anway. You might as well just say yes to it as you probably wont' lose 'em anyway.

I don't care what they do with my body when I'm dead. You know why?
Cause I'll be dead.
There's no sense in being so stingy long after your brain is capable of producing stinginess.

The way I see it, these are the most important "arguments" used in this discussion:

In favor of donating:

- You might save lives!
- After you've died, there's no point in keeping your body whole, might as well donate some organs.
- You'd be pretty hypocritical if you'd accept organs, but not donate them yourself. So if you'll accept em when YOU need them, you should be a donor too.

Against donating:

- Arguments stemming from religion. (These are acceptable to me, although I don't believe in them.)
- Being unable to donate because your organs suck for some reason (illness, whatever)
- "Ew, they're touching my dead body, that 'just doesn't feel right/is uncomfortable!' "
- "My dead body and organs are MINE MINE MINE MINE"

Arguments in favor seem slightly more...important. If not just more grown up. Well, to me anyway. Needless to say that I'm a donor :p Are there really no better arguments against donating (aside from religious ones) ? I haven't read any in this thread I think.

Why? No seriously, why? I *really* don't get what your logic or reasoning is behind that. At all.
It's not hard to understand that maybe a person wants their body intact.
OK, so I guess what I was wanting to know the answer to was: "why does it matter if your body is intact after death?" You say it's so easy to understand, but like I said before, I don't understand at all, that's why I am asking. Why is it so important that your dead, lifeless corpse is kept intact and untouched after you die? What is the difference between an intact corpse and one that's had organs removed? It's not as if (except for maybe some VERY deranged people who like to dig up dead bodies) anyone is going to see you after you are buried. It's not like you are going to be using your body after you die (I accept that some people believe in souls and spirits, but after you are dead, surely they move on to another place, onto a different body perhaps, so would it really matter what happens to the old one if nobody/nothing is around to use it?). The OP says he would feel "desecrated" if his body was cut up - once he is dead, how will he (or his soul or whatever) know what's happening to his body?

My bad to go off on a tangent, but it is due to my religious beliefs that a person should go into the ground as best preserved as possible (Not a symbol of vanity or anything, but please don't laugh. In the end of days our soul will return to our bodys that will be restored and then we will be judged by God whether we truly deserve heaven or not. That is my christian belief and if someone needs an organ then I'll be happy to give. I just don't prefer to be a dead donor). That's my belief as to why I (Personally) am not comfortable with that fact

I have the code on my driving licence (uk) that says I'm a donor :p

Really don't care what happens to my body after I'm dead. S'not like I'll be usin' it any more. Use it, cremate it, bury it, eat it if you really want :p Heck, throw it to the wolves, there won't be any of me around to care.

Might as well be useful to someone after I'm gone :D
I'm with you on this and have that code on my license too. I've decided that I quite like the idea of being buried in a peasant coffin myself, where they have a false floor if you like on the coffin so after the funeral they pull the coffin back up minus me. That way my nutrients and etc actually get recycled before the sun burns out.

I don't think you're a bad person Headshotcatcher, it's your decision whether to become a donor or not.

I won't register as a donor, but I'm specifically going to put a piece in my will that means that the second I die, my organs got to the state for them to use however they please.

where is this fantastical universe where i can actually be repaid for all the wonderful things ive done for for people instead of getting used and walked all over?

seriously though, if you're going to want someone else to give up their organs for you, you should be prepared to do the same, plus, your organs are donated posthumously, so i hardly doubt you'd care at that point

Awesome! Now as I tell everyone: Read ahead into a few of my other posts before you go after one of my first, unexplained posts. I've gotten what I give back on quite the occasion. If I treat someone perticularly like shit one day, the next three are ususally a ***** on me. I sued to be someone that people could talk to about their problems, and I was there for alot of people. Since then I've met wonderful people I'm now glad to call my friends. You can't think of being rewarded as "Finding money" or anything material. Simply having a great week or such can be your reward. It depends on how you look at it.

And as I mentioned in MOST of my posts: I don't want someone to give me their organs! GASP! As I am right now, I want to be buried as I live, organs IN my body as they were when I die. You want a reason? Read my posts, I'm not going through this again
