I've been thinking , for years i've refused to identify myself as a gamer . Not just because I think ?gamer? is an empty moniker but because I never liked gamers as a community . As individuals you are very lovely people but as a group you are often racist , sexist extremists who who stand against everything I like about the Internet. (and yes extremism is stranded behaviour for groups)
You see I always looked at the web is a meritocracy. Good ideas naturally floated upwards regardless of the authors age, race ,sex ,nationality, background, or gender. while bad ideas were ignored or made fun off . But in recent years as the Internet became more popular ( which is overall a good thing ) there has been a move towards social media and establishing an online identity for yourself . Which in my pinion has prompted allot of the racist ,sexist, homophobic ?. whatever behaviour that we've seen .
Not to say that the old Internet was some kid of magical wonderland free hatred and oppression ( god no ) but in the old days when most web pages were coded by one guy and his cat there really wasn't such a thing as a user profile . There was nothing encouraging people to post their sex , race or nationality which in turn led to less abuse .
why cant we do this today ?
Now this obviously wouldn?t be an ideal situation as running away from a problem rarely fixes it (and if you want an example of how this can go horribly wrong just look at 4chan) . But I do think that removing identifying information off accounts would lead to a more content focused Internet rather then the drama that we have today.
im not here to ask everyone to be nice to each other . It's just that your intolerance is holding back the propagation of cool shit ?... because you (Internet) are so busy fighting I miss out on cool stuff .
So stop it ? NOW

EDIT: for the benefit of those who cant read here is a short version.
I don?t care if people are nice to each other, nor is this a call for humanism (and I?ve long ago given up on actively trying to change people) . as far as im concerned everyone on the internet can be as racist as they?d like as long as that means we can spend less time arguing over social issues and more time making actual ?physical? content . adding more anonymity is only my way of achieving this but it's by no means the only answer
