This sort of exemplifies what my grandpa always used to say after WW2.

"Anything you can do to a pig, you can do to a person."

Well, I guess it's the worst movie I've ever heard of, but to be honest, I don't really care about it. This isn't a real snuff film [oh, God, to the best of knowledge], so I don't see what the big deal is. I'm never going to see this movie, and I assume that I share this sentiment with the majority of the world's population, but that doesn't mean I have to stop it from being made or protect people from it or something.

I wouldn't even call this movie evil. I'm the kind of guy that believes very strongly in rights and liberties and those sorts of things, and from where I sit, this movie does no more harm than any other slasher flick. It was made so graphic in order to get attention, and it worked wonderfully. Now, I believe that we can all sit back down and resume our daily lives.

Calm down. Nobody really died. No children were raped. It's all just make-believe.

TLDR: It's a movie in bad taste. Big whoop. Literally nothing to see here.

Knew of it read the wikipedia entry and was close to being sick. Definitely no interest in seeing it and honestly I suppose if somebody does all the power to them. Freedom of expression and all that but really I don't think it contributes anything useful. It's pure shock and I know many folks argue there's redeeming value to it but I'm apparently not able to see it.

Dude, they used a freaking toy doll. Relax. in this day and age you're not allowed to have infants doing filming for more than an hour or so before you have to stop for fear of overstressing them. If you honestly think they would really rape an infant you are far more trusting than I have been in many a year

I really don't see what the big deal is. There is so much worse shit out there (as far as shock value), that it makes this look like The Ninja Turtles.

Besides, being on the internet for a considerable amount of time should have desensitized damn near everyone by now. We live in a world were dead baby jokes are thrown around like knock-knock jokes.

A Serbian Film is the Faces of Death of the horror genre, and you guys are really sounding like your parents finally let you off your PG-13 restriction. Knock it off.
You might have a point if this didn't feature "graphic depictions of rape, necrophilia and paedophilia."

Depictions of rape, okay. Not that I think that on-screen rape is the funtimes. That scene in A Clockwork Orange where the gang are getting ready to rape a girl is genuinely upsetting to me (and would be even more upsetting to me if she was as young as she is in the book), as is the scene in the potting shed in Scum (which is the most depressing film I've ever seen), but both of those scenes have a purpose as far as the story goes, and most importantly to my thinking here, they're played out by adults who understand what's going on.

Same with depictions of necrophilia. I can't actually think of any films off the top of my head that I've enjoyed that had a graphic depiction of necrophilia, but it's still something that I'm not instantly opposed to if it works in the context of the film, serves a purpose, and, again, is played out by consenting adults who understand what's going on.

There isn't really a way to depict child sexual abuse without getting too close to child sexual abuse. That is, of course, if an actual child is in the film and not some form of tiny human robot. But even if it is the latter, or some elaborate green-screen trickery or a CGI child, even if 99.9% of people are horrified by it, there'll be someone who gets off on it. And softcore child porn is still kinda child porn.

Frankly, if your being on the internet for a considerable length of time has desensitized you to films that feature the rape of a newborn child, you are going to the wrong websites.

As far as shock value goes, this is appalling and terrible but...

Well, there's always a bigger fish. I guarantee you there's something else out there that makes this look downright child-friendly by comparison.

That's what these movies are about, this is a shock horror movie. It's trying to be disgusting and shocking, this one for instances is just one of the more commercial ones. Believe me (I'll not go into detail, not here atleast) there are worse.

I have seen the movie.

I don't know... Judging by context, it was very messed up in theory, even execution.
Still, none of the extremely graphic content really affected me. There wasn't anything special about it apart from being, well, really messed up in terms of what it chose to show. At times, it almost felt like they were trying too hard to shock the viewer.

From a technical standpoint, the movie is incredibly well-made, if artsy. The acting is superb, the atmosphere is dark and unpleasant, so on.

But in all honestly, it was just... well, another movie. I can't say I enjoyed watching it, but to me, it just sort of "exists."

I have seen a lot of violent movies, but the violence in, say, The Horseman felt a lot more effective, mainly because there was true motivation in it to the point where you could almost feel it to the bone, wanting to fight back against the bad guys. Of course, this movie's point isn't to show ultra-realistic fight scenes. I guess.

As for the sexual content in this movie... Yeah, it's there. The afterthought of "certain scenes" that I won't talk about here really are terrifying, but I just let them slip by.

The whole thing is made purely for shock value, and I might have to give it another watch to see if any opinions change, or if the dark undertones fully sink in.

Call me crazy, but I really didn't feel very affected by A Serbian Film. It was just that; a film. There are probably much worse things out there.

Now, I like exploitation movies. I like them a lot. But I haven't seen this one, and I don't think I want to, mainly because someone whose opinion about movies of this genre I very much trust said it isn't good.

There's both good exploitation films and bad ones, and from what I've heard, this is closer to being a bad one.

I feel that, until I've watched it, I'm not entitled to an opinion on it, so yeah I'd watch. I probably would end up vomiting though.

I've become aware of this film recently, been tempted to give it a look see.

I'm even more tempted now because of this thread. o_O

That's kinda horrific. I'm all for freedom of expression, even in ways that other people might think are horribly offensive, but the difference between something like that and 120 Days of Sodom (a book by the Marquis de Sade which features similar themes) is that in a book you can represent something genuinely appalling and abominable without potentially scarring someone for life.
They turned 120 Days of Sodom into a movie, just saying

Also how did they film the child porn? Like they would have to film someone having sex with a kid

I did think about it.

And I think it's awesome.

They just think if they try to be as disgusting as possible it will somehow translate into art. The truth, however, is that it's trying way to hard to shock. Bad narrative, bad acting, bad bad bad bad, all the way bad.

Are you the marketing director for the film or something OP? You certainly do seem to have chosen the approach that'd net it the maximum amount of controversy interest.

Nothing fictional will ever truly offend me, but since this film doesn't seem to be a horror piece - a genre whose goals can certainly also be accomplished through dark depravity - but more along the lines of pointless torture porn, then my interest in watching it is quite minimal.

Saló cuts out a lot of stuff from 120 Days of Sodom, including the bits with children.
