I have seen the movie.
I don't know... Judging by context, it was very messed up in theory, even execution.
Still, none of the extremely graphic content really affected me. There wasn't anything special about it apart from being, well, really messed up in terms of what it chose to show. At times, it almost felt like they were trying too hard to shock the viewer.
From a technical standpoint, the movie is incredibly well-made, if artsy. The acting is superb, the atmosphere is dark and unpleasant, so on.
But in all honestly, it was just... well, another movie. I can't say I enjoyed watching it, but to me, it just sort of "exists."
I have seen a lot of violent movies, but the violence in, say, The Horseman felt a lot more effective, mainly because there was true motivation in it to the point where you could almost feel it to the bone, wanting to fight back against the bad guys. Of course, this movie's point isn't to show ultra-realistic fight scenes. I guess.
As for the sexual content in this movie... Yeah, it's there. The afterthought of "certain scenes" that I won't talk about here really are terrifying, but I just let them slip by.
The whole thing is made purely for shock value, and I might have to give it another watch to see if any opinions change, or if the dark undertones fully sink in.
Call me crazy, but I really didn't feel very affected by A Serbian Film. It was just that; a film. There are probably much worse things out there.
